There are some genuine ones offering help and it is easy to differentiate. A genuine helper will in one way or the other mention in the thread that they have sent you a private message. But a scammer will not even engage in the thread, they'll silently enter pm for their scam attempt.

This thing is complicated if you ask me, a scammer can still act genuine by mentioning in the thread that they sent you a PM just as you stated. Even a user who want to genuinely help can also silently sent a PM, so it is left for you to act smart and Identify the person who genuinely want to help you solve your problem and the one who want to scam you. You might think that the possibility of what I just said happening is very small, but I'm actually speaking from experience.

I understand you, but it is unlikely that a scammer will be active in a thread wanting to help. Every board has people that frequents there and solve problems. So if a strange scammer appears from nowhere and offer a pm help, the thread participants will immediately come in to warn.

But if a reputable someone offer a pm help, he will not receive backlash because people already know he will not scam or decieve anyone. An experienced and reputable user here will not silently enter a random person's DM to render a help.

Honestly coming from what I have seen especially on Telegram it's always the scammers asking people like you and I some help, normally I don't expect someone to ask strangers for help, it's always the strangers asking for help.

Replying based on this scenario, if the assistance is asked in public then only accept help openly unless you asked/need a sensitive reply, that's only when you can go/accept help privately. There isn't any way you can stay without needing help especially as a beginner and although the forum is here  to help and Google roo but don't trust everything you see online. Just know you're vulnerable when you need help so always be at an alert but don't die in ignorance or you won't get the help you needed then get the opportunity to learn from that experience too. Scammers are everywhere but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try your best to solve your problem to prevent further problems.

There are places that if you ask for help publicly, you will easily get aid and get what you wanted easily, but it is impirtant not to share your personal information related to your wallet in the public place you shared your information to seek for help.

I don’t mean social media space, all I mean is a forum like this where Bitcoin discussion is going on, and the forum have reputation, I think we can feel free to ask for help here in this forum, but we just have to avoid responding to DMs when you seek for help because scammers can come to your DM, anyone willing to render help will respond to your post with proper guide that you will follow to get solution to your problem.

Social media is too public and scammers are everywhere, you can’t trust anyone from social media that’s why any response through DMs from there is almost a scam, therefore, it is good to avoid social media.

I don't see anything wrong in asking some questions that will be of help to you as a newbie you are free to ask any question you want to ask as long as it will help you solve the problem you are facing I don't think asking a question will endanger you or make you become a target for scammers because I believe that everyone has a little knowledge about being scammed so whether you ask a question as a newbie or not you are still a target to scammers.
If you say a newbie should not ask some questions that will help them just because they can be a target for scam don't you think they will make a bigger mistake by losing their coin or losing their security.

Yeah, that’s the fact they said ask questions about you don’t know is the best thing for those who is ready to learn about what they don’t understand, but some people will be new to Bitcoin and they don’t know where to start whereby they will be pretending, that’s why those types of people easily fall in the hand of the scammers.

Newbies really have to ask a question about what they don’t know so that they will be safe from the scammers, as we all know that the scammers are very common in the crypto space so we need to be very careful about. The research thing is often a big headache for genuine newbies who hardly know at that point how to thoroughly navigate this place. I remember how lost I used to be locating even topics I saw and wanted to comment on but got carried away. It used to be a big burden relocating them thereafter, let alone how to search for topics others had written on. Anyway, this is 2026; maybe people are wiser now than we were then.

People are indeed wiser now, they regard last year and this year as the tech age. There are a lot of stuff on the internet that people are experienced about and some of them have broad knowledge of how things work before even coming to the forum.

For the search part, someone with good searching skill aside this forum can still deploy it here, and it will work perfectly, like me, I find it very convenient to search for something in this forum using Google and given it the perfect direction to get me what I want from the forum without directly using the forum search option.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with asking help in a public group or a community such as this forum, because it you don't ask for a solution, you can never find help, and for the fact that you asked a general group for a solution, then their will always be someone who is genuinely willing to help you publicly in that same group you asked question publicly. Because one thing I will advise you do is avoid people that may want to come to your private inbox while claiming to offer solutions, because this is how scammers operates. And inasmuch as you could apply your personal safety measures, then you are good to go.

They're just looking for the right time to message you and when someone goes public and ask for help, he or she have indirectly become a target for scammers because they will use their techniques to message you asking to stretch a helping hand to you and mind you, not every help is consider to be backup with good intentions.

If one is seeking for crucial aides, not everybody should be authorized to run to your side because you simply can never know what's coming next. Scammers are here to scammed individuals off their hard earned money and who knows, you might just be the victim they've been waiting long for. We need genuine help, we should be able to ask those we trust and communities we have deal with on one occasion or the other rather seeking it entirely from a total stranger.

Scammers' targets are random, regardless of whether you're a beginner or an advanced user; we're all targets of criminals at every opportunity, with every question you ask.

I agree with you and most of these practices can easily be avoided as long as you exercise due diligence.

I mean, there’s nothing wrong in asking questions especially if you are new in this space. The problem lies when you entertain random messages from strangers who invite you to join random invites and other-related requests. If this were the case, then your spider senses should be tingling. Meaning, avoid any kind of interaction especially if it is outside the query of your topic.

Most of these scams can be avoided generally by just avoiding them. This is exactly the reason on why creating boards and topics can help you in forcing them to discuss with you on that topic instead of personally messaging you which creates a potential platform for them to scam you.

These types of scams are very rare on forums and the chances of them happening are also very low because when someone opens a topic on the forum about a problem most users want to help them. I really like this thing about the forum where users help each other. After opening a topic if someone DMs you I think instead of talking to them in DM you should discuss your issue directly in your topic through which if someone tries to give any wrong information or tries to scam you, the other users can easily identify them.

The problem happens when on other platforms like Telegram, there is no trusted person to ask for help, because of this they can very easily fool their target and often benefit from it.

Usually that happens all the time and this is also one of biggest reason that newbies should not ask any direct help on open groups.

If they have issues with the site or anything much better to ask guidance directly on proper channel or on legitimate site support to avoid any confusion which result to scamming.

Many people fall from scam because they trust to much those random people online. With many cases we have seen, much better for people to stay vigilant. Because as what you have said scammers are just waiting for perfect opportunity to attack.

I think in a public domain as such as we have now, you have to be very careful in everything you’re doing that have to do with passing out sensitive information here, first of all, you don’t know who to trust on a place like this as a newbies, it’s better to locate the beginners and help that is a place that would provide guidelines on how to operate in this forum, anything that has to do with money is always sensitive information so it’s better to be careful in that aspect, as for old members everyone needs to be careful as well, anyone can be a target, we all know that not all newbies are newbies as well, which is why it’s better to be cautious when you receive some certain messages, you can take such information to meta so it will be discussed as well.

However, it's certainly not that easy for scammers to steal from members on this forum, even beginners. Honestly,, I haven't heard of anyone losing their Bitcoin here because they posted something like that and were ultimately trapped. Correct me if I'm wrong, because that's basically what I know. Nevertheless, I agree with your suggestion that before posting or looking for answers to problems, it's clearly a better step to look for posts that can help us. This can prevent us from creating new posts. Furthermore,, for beginners who might be experiencing problems with their Bitcoin or wallet, I think it's better to learn independently. Because nothing is impossible if we have the will to learn. So don't just rely on others.
