I have just applied. Hope I am not too late.
This coin seems to have everything going for it.
POS, no wasteful POW.
Well thought out distribution method.
And most of all a great 'community'!

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

Someone just started a thread about a new security flaw affecting OpenSSL and all wallets using anything but the latest version.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=561464.0

He says "although the vulnerability has been addressed in OpenSSL's version 1.0.1g, it is present in prior versions up to 1.0.1f."

He goes on to say he checked the current Vertcoin wallet and it is vulnerable because it is using version 1.0.1'c'.

Apparently CGA and YACC will be updated soon.

The thread also says any exchanges using OpenSSL are vulnerable too.

I just checked the latest community coin wallet but could not find the OpenSSL version it uses.

All I could find in the Qt help was "This product includes software developed by the OpenSSL Project".

Thanks for sharing information! This should be checked!

So far, when dev will be online, things to get him to take into consideration:

1. Check, which OpenSSL version is used in software.
2. Update OP with link to Mac OSX wallet (and donation address for instacash). Wallet works without problems (I am waiting for PoS to kick in now, but should be fine)

Anyone has something to add to list?

The original thread said that some exchanges use OpenSSL, and any using older versions are vulnerable to being hacked. I know COMM is already being traded on allcrypt and we are voting to be listed on mintpal. Perhaps someone with expertise in this field knows how to check if these exchanges use OpenSSL and if so, what version they are using.

If either exchange has not upgraded then it risks getting hacked. I would not like anyone in the COMM community to lose coins while trading on a vulnerable exchange. It would be great if someone could check and tell us if allcrypt or mintpal is vulnerable to this attack.

I just found this post on the CGA thread about their fix for the new OpenSSL vulnerability. Apparently it is called the Heartbleed bug and allows anyone on the Internet to read the memory of the systems protected by the vulnerable versions of the OpenSSL software. It looks like most coin's Qt wallets will need updating to the latest OpenSSL version because of this, including bitcoin's Qt wallet.

Ok Windows wallet has been updated (1.3.3.3) with the latest OpenSSL release (1.0.1g) to fix the "heartbleed bug" I am working on getting a clean OSX build environment so I can update the OSX wallet. I suggest Linux users update there version of OpenSSL and recompile the wallet.

This update is not mandatory but is strongly advised. To learn more about the bug read here: http://heartbleed.com/
