In fact such cruelty to animals in gambling business is unacceptable, be it cockfighting or dogfighting. The administration is kicking and shoving all these illegal activity and taking strict action against them which is a good deed of the highest order

Some may not see the harm in animals fighting bloodily just to win cash for their owners because many of these animals are just food at the end of the day and some grown just for the sole purpose of this.

Equating fighting animal and farm animal on same scale is nothing but stupidity. You know these rooster are specially trained and raised. And forced to play deadly game for the sake of entertainment and money. Even sometime they attached sharp blade or metal to their legs to make the fight more deadly. This is not ordinary animal husbandry or farming. To cause such suffering just for fun and money is nothing but extreme inhumanity and cruelty

Unacceptable for the fact that there are lives has been wasted just for the sake of their gambling activities. Maybe government should impose strong ban and asked huge penalties to those people will continue to engage in this type of gambling.

This cockfighting scene is famous in Asia and I think government will struggle to stop this because in some areas. Cockfighting is part of their tradition. But its good to see them doing some action and that 100 people arrested is good example of those actions done to fight underground gambling.

Cockfighting is not legal in my country and I don't see any reason why it should even be legal in other countries meanwhile there are several legal events and sports events which can still be gambled on, so what's so special about forcing animals to fight and sustaine  injury or even end up dying? If maybe it's a culture in those part of the world that still allow it, then they should not use it for gambling purpose.

Its not a funny thing to for people to bet so that animals will fight or compete against themselves, that's wickedness. Animals are to be reared for food and fiber and not to for gambling, as people are just suffering the poor animals and at the process, the animals might died, that is why the law enforcement has to be very effective, to prevent this kind of acts from happening again because there is no fun in such thing.

That happens here in the past, people like to gambling in one place and gather with so many people involved. Not new here in the Philippines but most of the arrest never comes to play or only a few will be in custody because someone will be tipping the gamblers beforehand if there will be some police operations or they'll be doing it so remote that policemen will never dare to go to. Most of the time there are even policeman that are betting in this illegal cockfighting or they fear one of their relatives will be busted so they tip it to other folks.

Moreover, there are few busted dudes and birds in the place but you know how corrupt some of these policemen and they'll make it their own once it's in their custody(I mean those cockfighting roosters). Afaik, you will be given bail around 30 thousand pesos in here if you'll get busted.

For as much I know, any gambling that is injurious to both humans and animals are illegal in most places, the law may not publicly outline it, but the truth is that when such cases comes up it must definitely be against both the organizers, spectators and bettors tht will be hold responsible for that, this is what we should understand and stop gambling on sports that are dangerous for the fighters be it humans or animals.

All these are simply because it is not legal yet. If it can be properly organised and managed to bring in millions in spectators, bettors, taxes and revenue, it would be all good.
I mean, adults pay good money to watch two people beat each other to a pulp with broken faces and ribs, and that is called sports. People gamble heavily on it, with a lot of sponsors and TV viewership.
Some of those fights are so gruesome, I can't even watch, but people cheer and bet on them, all because the law allows it. Whenever I see videos of those MMA fights, I always wonder why people would enjoy watching this, and apparently, millions of people do.

It was illegal in the US till around 2001; I think it took place mostly in Asia. So maybe people would have been arrested if they organised them in the US, but it was not because what they were doing was inhumane; it would have simply been because it's illegal.
Find a system to make cockfighting as big and well-managed as MMA just as UFC did, and you will see how quickly things can change.

Here in our country, it is also legal but you would be needing up to get some permit if ever you would be organizing a cockfight on an arena, but due to taxes and other permit problems on which this is where there are those illegal cockfights that do happen specially on provinces on which these are usually being raided if someone would really be giving out some tip if ever there's a derby, but if you are someone who do able to get a permit then you can run this business and its a profitable one. Here in our country this is really that a famous kind of gambling on which it might that look a brutal thing for some people since this is that attached to animal cruelty but for those gamblers or bettors on those cockfighting then this is something which they are really that intrerested on. For me then im not a fan of this one and i do think neutral for this kind of gambling though.

In the Philippines, cockfighting is probably one of the most popular forms of gambling. Even before online gambling became popular, cockfighting was already there. I think it was influenced by the Spaniards, and over time it became part of our culture already.

Personally, I hate watching it. But in my family, at least the majority are into this kind of gambling. Some even take better care of their fighting chickens than themselves. They give the chickens complete vitamins and spend money on them, while sometimes forgetting to take care of their own health.

That is how serious some people are with it here.

I posted a thread here about an illegal cockfighting raid years ago that happened in my country where an unfortunate accident happened because a police oficer died after getting attacked on his legs by a rooster which hit his artery, the rooster has a blade(called tari) on it's feet which is usually placed there during cock fights.

There are many grey areas surrounding the topic. Cockfighting is part of traditional culture in certain countries, but when it involves gambling along with the event, it strays outside the boundaries of the law where animal competitions are banned.

Once in a while, we see and hear about these busts around the globe. In the US alone, there were major busts in 2014 and 2017. You will hear the same from Vietnam and the Philippines. These events take place in India, where some are held as part of tradition.
 
There are pigeon flying competition conducted here. If anyone bets on it, it falls into the grey area. The same applies to Cockfighting, even though the latter operates mainly underground after the courts ruled in favor of animal activists.

We call this tupada, the majority of the people here in our country don't want too many rules and compliance, they want to do it whenever they want to, so tupada of cockfighting starts with small talks, and they do it wherever they want as long as it's remote and beyond the reach of authorities.

You are correct. Moving to remote areas or rural areas where the authorities hardly get to is a way that those who organize, watch, and bet on cockfighting avoid the authorities. Even in the story I shared, it was mentioned that many of them are moving to rural areas just to avoid the cops.

I must say it was very daring of them to try to profit from cockfighting in a place like Connecticut, USA. A state within the USA where it is very serious when comes to animal wellbeing. It I would have expected something like this to be easier to be done in New Mexico, Texas or even Florida...
Anyways, the saddest part is how all those animals had to be sacrifice due to the bad conditions and in bad state they were found.
Hopefully those people face a long stay in prison for doing those things to innocent animals, for the sole purpose of getting money from betting and hosting those illegal events.

Here in Venezuela cockfighting is legal and regulated, so I would not expect to see people getting arrested for mistreating those animals, actually sacrificing them for the sake of those fights is something which is relatively common.

I'm still confused about where the fun lies in cockfighting. I mean, the idea that roosters are forced to fight to the death, and people laugh and enjoy watching is still beyond my comprehension. These people are nothing more than conscienceless humans who enjoy the suffering of other creatures for their own amusement. Even if they're animals, people shouldn't still be gambling on them. Animal restling till a dominant games in one part of my country like the northern part still have some of that, but the game is becoming none popular in most cases now then before, majority of people don't like participating or watching animals fight that are injurious even if moderated, most people prefer human wrestling because of the high moderation and compliance from the fighters because of the rules of the game.
