I've read through many mining threads and machines on this forum and one of the most common things I see alot is people over locking their Asic miner a bit more to get the best out of them.

I have not seen a lot of discussions about under clocking those Asic miners, I am looking into this because I want to try my own solo mining operation and the only solution I came up with is running full hashrate in the day and by night going the lowest I can.

I read about Avalon Q and it seems to be the only one that you can change power consumption in its settings, but I don't have money for such miner, I want something smaller and that has the capability for under clocking.

For example, let's say I can run a 300w miner from morning till evening but I only have the capacity to run 200w at night on that same miner till the next morning, you get what I am looking for?

300 watts is very little for an ASIC, I think you can choose a device for solo mining with this kind of consumption.

Electricity is usually cheaper at night, but if you want to use solar power, you need batteries for the night.

Why do you do the opposite, or why would you want to reduce the frequency of these devices in the evening? If your goal is to reduce noise, then reducing the frequency of Bitcoin mining does not significantly reduce noise.

you pick a bad watt level to mine with

200 watt machines are overpriced in general as are 300 watt units.

maybe this if you are usa based
https://altairtech.io/product/hammer-miner-bc04-home-bitcoin-miner/

this is okay if you are in Europe

edit at Yamane_Keto maybe he has solar and battery limits.

I think he is looking to automate his units, but I don't think you can find some units that can schedule to use overclock and underclock.
If I remember correctly, Vnish or Braiins OS offers automatic profile switching based on thermal and environmental thresholds, but there's no base time. If you can buy a cheap s9 with a single hashboard you can experiment with this unit.

Instead of running the units in low-power mode at night, I believe they should be run in normal mode and then underclocked during the day using automatic profile switching to take advantage of thermal and environmental thresholds.

Newer units like NerdOCTaxe is pretty expensive nowadays, and they only have a thermal limit to automate shutdown, not based on time or a scheduler to underclock or overclock the unit.

So I think choosing cheap older units that support Vnish or Braiins OS is a good option.

I also saw the Canaan Avalon Nano 3S; it has a feature called "night mode." but it's not automated, but you can remotely turn it on via your phone.

The Antminer S9 can mine 4 terahashes on a single board while consuming 450 watts of wall power or slightly less.
The main advantage of this ASIC is that it's practically free, but its power consumption, noise, and minimal chances of finding a block in solo mining make it pointless.
Cheaper than the Avalon Q, it only requires a PC with a graphics card and remote control.

OP, how about you go for multiple small miners? I am thinking 💭

This could actually works.

There are NerdAxe with 120w that do 5TH to 6TH, three of em will net you 360watt, that's 15TH in total and you can run them from morning like you requested and when the night comes only need to off one solo miner.

You will be left with 120w + 120w = 240watt, that's 10TH for the night till the next morning?

I am guessing that you are trying to run these miners on battery and inverter?

If hash rate is not a concern, then of course a low-frequency operation can be used. However, if you find the noise from your ASIC miner too loud at night, you may consider installing a miner silencer. Or you can use Solo Miner as they suggested.

edit at Yamane_Keto maybe he has solar and battery limits.

If he rely on solar and battery, i think he would ask more specific question (such as how to set clock automatically with script or which app that can set clock by any variable/condition) considering unreliable weather.

I also saw the Canaan Avalon Nano 3S; it has a feature called "night mode." but it's not automated, but you can remotely turn it on via your phone.

Avalon Nano 3S use 140W adapter, so OP probably don't need to switch every night from his phone manually. But after reading related help page (https://help.canaan.io/hc/en-us/articles/43169816917529-Technical-Documentation-Explanation-of-Avalon-Mini-3-Modes), it's really weird their app/mining device doesn't have feature to automatically enable night mode with configurable time range.

Cheaper than the Avalon Q, it only requires a PC with a graphics card and remote control.

Ok so I find this to be quite confusing, what does S9 Asic miner has to do with graphics card installed on a PC motherboard? Or I don't get the point you are saying? I'm lost right here.

I think OP is more concerned about power consumption over hashrate, A Antminer S9 with 14TH takes 1250w even if there is a way to downclock it we are not going to get that 14TH with 300Watt running.

The NerdQ++ Rev6.1 takes 100 for 6TH and it cost the half of the price for S9, atleast in my own country, getting two of this NerdQ++ will do the magic, 12TH for 200Watts, this is one of the reasons why I like this small miners better, for anyone struggling with power consumption they can do mining with solo miners and keep adding one by one if one day they can handle higher power consumption.

I have a friend with over 12 over these NerdAxe and he is over 100TH on Bitcoin mining, the whole miner combined are less noisy than running a single Asic miner.

I wanted to say that a computer with a graphics card, not an ASIC, is ideal for such tasks. But that's not suitable for Bitcoin mining, only altcoins.

NerdQaxe++ Rev 6.1  (6Th/s) 103W $228
Antminer S9 14TH 1250W costs $10-20
It's difficult to compare

17 devices *230 is $3910 for 107 TH/s and 1751 watts.

The S21 200th used in economy mode will run at 150 TH/s and consume 2400 watts. It will cost $1000.

You'll also need a noise box for $100-300. $100 if you build it yourself.
