I guess you have not seen a situation when someone goes on to slander or spread FUD on a service thread without any justified evidence. When you try to report such posts to the moderators, they are likely not going to be deleted so long as they are on topic since the forum mods do not moderate scam or scam-related disputes.
This is where self-moderation is effective.

Yeah. There’s been several cases where some users choose to intentionally troll and deliberately spread baseless accusations of FUD with the sole objective of tarnishing the image and reputation of a particular brand or service, and since they are technically on topic and mods see no reason to take those posts down, it becomes very unfair to the service owner. But if the thread is self moderated, such posts wouldn’t be allowed to see the light of the day.

With users who are trollers, you have to ignore them as the advice is "Don't feed the troll", and report their trolling posts which are not allowed by forum rules.

There is a rule against trolling but it isn't like a severe issue so you will not get too good successful report rate by reporting trolling posts. Such posts can be deleted but the trollers won't likely be banned if it is your intention.
