Self moderated threads for advert.

I guess you have not seen a situation when someone goes on to slander or spread FUD on a service thread without any justified evidence. When you try to report such posts to the moderators, they are likely not going to be deleted so long as they are on topic since the forum mods do not moderate scam or scam-related disputes.
This is where self-moderation is effective.

There’s been several cases where some users choose to intentionally troll and deliberately spread baseless accusations of FUD with the sole objective of tarnishing the image and reputation of a particular brand or service, and since they are technically on topic and mods see no reason to take those posts down, it becomes very unfair to the service owner. With users who are trollers, you have to ignore them as the advice is "Don't feed the troll", and report their trolling posts which are not allowed by forum rules.

There is a rule against trolling but it isn't like a severe issue so you will not get too good successful report rate by reporting trolling posts. Such posts can be deleted but the trollers won't likely be banned if it is your intention.

Even though it's self moderated, they should know that deleting a complaint is a bad PR for them. It's more honorable when they attend to such complaints there, it shows responsiveness and accountability on their path. They may want to delete spams or off-topic posts on their thread, same reason they make it self moderated

The original purpose of self moderation of thread was so the OP can filter comments that ain't meaningfully contributory to the thread such as off topics comments and spams but in some cases of deleted comments in self moderated threads it's more of a personal decision of the OP, some borne out of sentimental to views which doesn't align with OP's.

Yet, the notion of self moderation makes them. Similarly, some service threads that are said to be self moderated can choose to filter away certain comments that provides information that doesn't favour their service, hiding under the idea of self moderated thread.
Perhaps, for service providers as recommended by OP of this thread, they should report any comments that seems to them as spam or off topic to forum moderators to be deleted, it's much better than way as it would help prevent scammers from taking advantage of the self moderated feature to cover their quick revelation.

The things you mentioned are indirectly part of the things that make self moderation a choice in the first place yeah I agree you do have a point but on the other hand some of these service threads can be spammed and that is an advantage of self moderation also to help clean.

If anyone see something shady about a service or project it's best you just create a new thread to make it known to everyone it is basically the message  you see under every self moderated posts.
