Thank you for the merit and for helping me finally escape the Junior Member rank. 😄
Shocked congratulations

Quote
What's funny is that I've actually been around this forum for about 8 years, and I've been involved with Bitcoin for roughly 14 years, yet somehow I managed to stay a Junior Member for far longer than I should have.
Lol! that's so sad bro, but your activities that I'm seeing on your profile didn't prove that to be true. Or perhaps you aren't sure of your statement, however from your activities you have probably spent up to four to five months on the forum, so be sure of something before saying it out.

As we all know, bitcointalk is one of the oldest cryptocurrency forums, and over the year the forum has developed systems to reduce spam, scams, plagiarism, and low quality discussions. while these changes have helped improve the quality of the forum, i sometime wonder whether the forum has also become more difficult for genuine beginners.
If they're a genuine member who can contribute to the forum, it will not be difficult for them, unless they really don't want to learn more about crypto. This forum isn't much about crypto because there are even boards that work without that much crypto in the discussion involved, so if they are conversant on that board, it will not be that difficult. The merit system is working as intended, since this is probably why you made this thread, it all comes down to that point tbh.

You're confusing activity with account age.

My activity only shows how much I've posted, not how long I've had this account or how long I've been involved with Bitcoin.

This Bitcointalk account was created in 2018, yet my activity is only around 130. That should be enough to show that I was never a very active poster.

I've been involved with Bitcoin for roughly 14 years, but I spent far more time reading, trading and following the space than posting on forums.

Also, considering that my last post before returning was in 2023, I'm not sure a 2024 account is in the best position to tell me how long I've been around.

So using activity to estimate someone's experience is a bit like using post count to measure knowledge.

Main rule on this forum  { if something is too good to be true, it is }

Perhaps from a beginner's perspective things may look different. A newbie can spend weeks, months making posts on the forum without receiving a single merit. sometimes the newbie may even have useful opinions but struggle because they do not know how to structure quality discussions or older members may ignore their post due to low rank.

The short answer to your thread title is No.

The forum is not getting harder for genuine beginners. It's hard for people who are eager to rank up and join campaigns. They want to receive merit for every single post they made and when the merit is not coming, they assume the forum is hard.

As a genuine beginner, you worry less about the merit and focus on what you're here for. To genuinely learn about bitcoin and how to improve on your Bitcoin investment. Most genuine beginners barely know about the merit system so they don't bother for not getting merits. It's always pretenders or accounts farmers that worry much about not getting merits after spending few days on the forum.

The mindset that people approach the forum with recently makes it seem difficult for beginners but it's not.

I was also un-sourced by Theymos.  I was getting so many smerit that I had well over 1,000 when I started giving 50 away per interesting post to clear some of them.   I thought I was following admin advice but I was wrong or gave too much away too fast.
~snip~

Interesting information, this is the first time I've read that someone stopped being a merit source because they shared too many merits. Maybe that's why some merit sources are careful and watch what they do, but if someone finds 10 or 20 excellent posts and decides to reward each one with 50 merits, why would that make him a bad merits source?

OP if you need merit, I have written a post about how seasoned farmers do it even if they are not part of any kind of group. It escapes me now, but the summary was that you should be extremely nice and a bootlicker towards the biggest merit givers. They like this stroking of the ego, so just post in threads where they post and you will do fine. Besides that, get involved in some local board groups as there is massive farming there. No dishonest beginner has issues earning merit here, and genuine beginners don't care about merit as others have already stated.

There was one case of a merit source being removed super early on. I already forgot the guy's name, but he was big on uh, "independent thought." He believed the merit system was stupid because it could be easily manipulated, and he set about proving it by giving his source merits to blatant shitposters. "Look! See how easy it is to manipulate this system??"

He was quickly un-sourced by theymos.
Meanwhile the reality of this system is that it is being abused all the time and that user was right, so removing him did not accomplish anything at all whoever it was. The current reality here is that about 80-90% of all merits sent are being accumulated through groups and farmers, and only the remainder are merits that are sent honestly and for actually useful or interesting posts. The level of abuse will differ depending on where one looks and how, but the level of abuse is a joke.

I was also un-sourced by Theymos.  I was getting so many smerit that I had well over 1,000 when I started giving 50 away per interesting post to clear some of them.   I thought I was following admin advice but I was wrong or gave too much away too fast.

Depends on if that was the real reason or if there was more to it, but any kind of arbitrary time/quantity restrictions are ridiculous given the amount of abuse that is freely happening here. If you know someone is a good poster and you encounter their posts frequently, why would you need to decide each time how many merits to give them here and there when you could do it all in bulk in any good post? I remember seeing someone else do this.

OP I think you are still in a good position than I am. After watching the topic I thought it was made by a newbie. Since you are not from that era when just by increasing activity the forum ranks used to gets higher than I think there's no complaining about it. Cause you do know how things changed and for a greater good . Even though some manipulation, Exploitation of the system is there and always will be there but still it's waht it is and everyone accepted it so far.

I truly agree this forum is not much about crypto. But of you wants to meet some Bitcoin legends you need to come here. There's maybe lots of social media with lots of feature but I genuinely find this forum more convenient. All those OGs are really helpful. There's a vast information towards technical section you can learn about and not only that if you don't understand you will always find a person who will willingly help you ..

Over my stay in the forum I have learned from people how to not just open your mouth to say kind of things.

Make them no go commt food from your mouth😁

No hard feelings bro🙃
Ye shall know them by their fruits, according to the holy book. I wonder whether you actually finished primary school.  Assuming you did, you should have know that what you wrote here  is complete garbage. Your account looks like a farm account because it is quite obvious. I would prefer you comment with your main account.

Honestly, it is true that Internet forums are losing their importance and relevance and that younger generations are following social networks more, and they are looking for answers on Google and lately more and more on AI.
It's still much more practical and easier for me to follow this forum, I've gotten used to it and I can quickly find everything I'm interested in.
However, it is more difficult for new users, especially if they have no previous experience with crypto and are new to crypto.
It's easier if you can find a small niche on this forum, maybe your local board with a smaller number of members where the atmosphere is usually more relaxed and friendly and it's easier to get support and answers.
