Your approach refers to well known and old argument among betting club, and to only bet on favorite is to set out on guaranteed way to emptying your account. But as for me, betting blindly on large team is form of old fashioned method of betting, as it ignores the way that sports books price their bets and concept of betting value. If big club is incredibly low, then it is very dangerous long term plan to try to gain any bit of advantage when you are paying a lot of money. I think there are opportunities out there for anybody who would like to get better at sport of sports betting. There are much of things out of his control that lead to his teams favourite game collapse time after time, whether it is fatigue, injury to key players or tactical errors. Without figuring out the risk, reward for said winnings, you are not playing strategic and are instead falling into yet another trap.

In sports betting, it is not bad to bet on strong teams rather than betting on emotions. Because strong teams do better in the long run. We often see in league tournaments where good teams are at the top. However, there is also uncertainty because sometimes those big teams lose matches against much weaker teams. It is not known which match they will lose and which one they will win, because of which there is uncertainty in every match. In the case of betting, the gambler must make proper analysis and place bets. In order to get good results, experience is also needed along with skill. Those who place bets based on skill and proper analysis will get comparatively better results than others even if they lose.
You said all, betting on strong teams with emotions involved might turn around to be against your favours because they can turn to be the losing one and then you will get disappointed. So, big teams don't give one the reasons that everything will be as you planned and before you know it everything got scatter. Always have a backup plan, as emotions can trap someone into making choices that turn into frustration and pains, as there will be no better result in it.
