These very corrupt systems do not really thrive in the first place if the people do not allow them to do so the very first time they notice misuse of funds, abuse of power, and an anomaly in such a stained government system. The problem begins when these kinds of politicians, backed by the powerful elites, continue to win the elections despite their track records. What's even worse is that these politicians create a political dynasty that is really hard to break and difficult to challenge when a new politician surfaces, trying to win the election to change the broken system.

But this doesn't mean I'm putting most of the blame on ordinary citizens. These people from underdeveloped countries may only face limited choices (during elections), most of which are being bought,  influenced by widespread misinformation, or simply because of extreme poverty, and that's what makes the corruption thrive even more deeply embedded in the system.

The government are not more than the people, if a government has been corrupt, the onus lies on the people to stand on their feet and demand good governance, those in government offices didn't just get their by mere diplomacy, they fought their way into those political offices, and expect you them to get there and serve your interest when you didn't elect them, that's impossible.

Coming from a developing nation, I can always complain about the fact that if there are no electoral processes that is fair, people will always have leaders that will never serve their interest, so the number one thing to do is to fix your electoral process because it is what determines who occupies which position.

People has stood on their feet and some are still standing on their feet demanding good governance but that still hasn't solved anything, some countries has gone extreme to demand such good governance that they physically overthrew a government to give way to the instalment of another government.
I think the biggest power of any government is its security squad and they too are citizens of the country experiencing the same bad government so if any stand up should work they need to get involved.

The security guys might likely not get involved, this is because they take orders from the government,  however for some countries especially countries within the Sahel region in Africa, The military have literally taking over the governance system in some countries, this is because they believe some democratically elected government have not been able to give them the kind of infrastructural development they want and as security chiefs they cannot sit down and watch the government ruin their country. I'm one person that is not really in support of military rule, this is because sometimes they don't follow diplomatic means in resolving issues but in a situation where the democratical space have not given room for diplomatic approach especially allowing citizens express their electoral franchise, it is even hard for you to even frown at the military taking charge of the situation.

Politics is like a shell of founding fathers against the newly elects, the public would blame the leaders for not catching up with the numerous policies promised to be implemented during the campaign, but forget that the countries have owners, which consists of previous leaders, who tell and advise the newly added leaders what to or not to do, and going against such orders leads to chaos in the society. Some weak leaders go for whatever they're told to do to stay alive, while other tough men stand against those rules or orders and boldly stand to face the rot of getting assassinated or an unbearable tenure.

No doubt corruption is definitely a major reason many countries struggle with it but it is not always the only reason. I mean weak institutions and poor education even conflict and bad policies can also slower the development of a country. The real disaster is that when leaders start focusing on personal wealth instead of public welfare  then ordinary peoples pay the price for it through poverty and unemployment  and other poor services. The natural resources of the country alone are not enough for the good future of a country i believe a good governance and accountability and honesty and also sincerity towards the peoples are essential for a country’s true development.

This is something I can relate to. The recent incidents in my country made me realize this even more. Here, the corrupt always gets their way, and the govt does nothing to stop them, instead, they are also involved in these heists.

One example can be presented as the S Alam Group's banking scandal. This group used political connections and influence to forcefully take over major financial institutions, taking illegal loans through shell companies, fake documents, fraud and siphoning more than USD 10.7 billion. Can you imagine the amount we are talking about?...

And the end result is that people aren't able to withdraw their hard earned life savings. They are literally helpless in this situation. The banks aren't able to pay back the money, as they lack the funds. We can see the money on our online banking apps, yet we have nothing, no way to withdraw. And even if they do allow the withdrawal, it's only a tiny amount per day, this is the harsh reality here.

They've been elected by the people so they have to work for the people. But that only happens during the election and when they're already in the seat, that changes. If they can take people's fund through the system legally, they know how to do it and planned it long ago. The corruption will not be gone when they have embraced it and lacks of political will. They know that they can't be chased by the people after they're done with the position and that's why they can easily get away with it. So, it's a rinse and repeat action that they've seen in the first leaders who have been in the seat before.

Actually, there is criticism only from a minor portion of the local population, while a considerable portion doesn't care at all, and another considerable portion endorses the corrupt goverment, being it from side A or B.

Poverty is a global issue and not only reserved for the underdeveloped countries. Being able to afford basic needs should be the yardstick of measuring poverty and not just money at hand, rather purchasing power of the money. For instance, in the US, there are homeless people and people living in worst condition than some people in a country like Tanzania that should be called underdeveloped. Although, I understand that the standard and quality of life in most developed nations is far better than those in underdeveloped nations especially when you compare the rich, middle class and the poor.

However, I think the most worrying part is once there is high corruption happening in an underdeveloped country, sure enough there will be visible root issues as well like scarcity of resources, high inflation and debt, inequality and unemployment, and institutional dysfunction which puts the country very unlucky and problematic due to irresponsible and selfish government officials.

And as long as they remain sitting in the government, expect that there will be no progress and development that will be made possible, except for their own pockets and bank accounts.

Seriously, all these many so called underdeveloped countries are actually rich in natural resources, but poor leadership and corruption prevent the benefits from reaching ordinary citizens. A good example is Nigeria, which is one of the biggest oil producing countries in Africa, yet many people still struggle with poverty, poor roads, unreliable electricity and unemployment. When leaders focus more on enriching themselves than developing the country, progress becomes very slow. The painful part is that it is the ordinary citizens who suffer the consequences. A country can have all the resources in the world, but without accountability, good leadership and proper management, those resources will not improve people's lives.

It seems like this situation is quite relate in my country now because looking at what is happening now to our country's currency which is plummeting, unclear government programs make the state budget wasted and when criticism is considered treason makes my country slowly destroyed even though this country is quite rich with abundant resources.

It's hard enough when corruption is always the main problem and when the regime in charge is only trying to increase their electability and doesn't care about criticism.
Today there are demonstrations in our country but what happens is the same where those who try to take to the streets to give their aspirations are clashed with soldiers and police who are armed enough to make the steps we have blocked and seem to be silenced by force.

Since the start of practicing imperialism as defined by the marxism doctrine, some big economies are mainly depending on the natural resources from their colonies. After giving them fake independance, they assign their friends to rule the countries, jist to garante the benefits won't stop. What I want to say is that those corrupt politicians in so called third world are all employees supported by their countries' employers.

Corruption is a big problem in many countries specially in under developed countries but that is not the only reason poverty is another reason for the underdevelope countries but there are other factors that are involved in this process like political instability of these countries and how strong the institutions are their educational system and their history . it is not fair to say that they cannot change or there is nothing to change , some countries have improved over the time when different reform were presented and then people post for accountability , so change often takes time and it require both citizens and institutions come together for the betterment,  problems are real but the progress is not impossible.

Simple they close their eyes and they don't see what their acts have brought upon their public, they turn a blind eye toward the whole country they pretend to be watching but they are not facing the real problems. We have always thought that if someone from the poor class becomes a powerful person in the government like president etc. they would understand the poor completely but once a poor person tastes the luxury.

They understand why corruption is necessary and fun. Why it becomes valid which it is not under any circumstances. Every country should have a separate department full of honest people, with good salaries so they would never be bribed, and their purpose should be to eliminate any person misusing their power and money to misuse someone's power. When a nation has resources in abundance, it drives corrupt and greedy leaders to sponsor their tenors via foreign extraction contracts directly, neglecting entirely the necessity to invest funds on human capital and most importantly, the domestic industries. I think you made a pretty long & complex story short... but you definitely hit some points. I live in a country where people complain about those things every day, and there doesn't seem to be much progress, or maybe it's even the opposite. It's like falling endlessly without hitting the bottom, and when you can't hit the bottom, you can't go back up.

And I wouldn't say that nothing can be done... Things can be done, but that happens when the majority decides to do something about it. So people need to wake up and start doing what they are preaching... Sadly, it's a slow process, but big changes can happen, and they do happen.

It's truly a difficult time right now to be behind when it comes to development, because there are so many competing external interests all trying to control the leadership of these (unfortunately) weaker countries. Just looking at Africa it seems like even the most developed countries are still chaotically governed and the smaller countries are caught in a trap between Russia/China/Europe and America. Each is trying to further it's own interests, like securing certain minerals which requires having a lot of influence over the government. Russia was successful in overtaking some countries, but the people have never seen any benefit, it all goes to the small group of "elites" like you say.

The simple and honest truth about this is that not all countries we call poor are really poor in terms of mineral resources. Many of these countries have a lot of resources that can enrich the country so that their citizens too will also benefit but for the fact that their government is corrupt as they normally enrich only themselves and their families makes it look like they are very poor meanwhile they are not, what they only lack is good government. Many politicians are only focus on their personal gains and they literally forget about the citizens and their duties as a politician.
