I think the dollar’s strength is not simply because the US has the best economists or anything like that, it's just that it is largely sits at the center of the global financial system. If you look it up, most international trade, especially oil and commodities is priced in US dollars, central banks hold large amounts of dollars as reserves and investors worldwide view US government bonds as one of the safest places to park money. During wars, economic uncertainty, or recessions, people often rush into dollars rather than away from them because they trust the stability of the US financial system. Plus it helps when the world views you as the land of the free and brave and also a super power, not many countries can get away with starting a war just like that, so yea.
History also plays a huge role. While today USA is the nation that attacks everyone, polices the world, elects morons, and aggressive nation that we all dislike. It wasn't like that in history. This was the nation that jumped to World War 2, and took over by force, stopped Hitler, then went back to country, started building cars for the whole world for cheap, and got rich.
So USA was a very good place that everyone in the world admired, this went long from 40's to nearly 70's, after that, it started to slowly got corrupted more and more.
But because it has a huge history, and financial systems were built on it because everyone picked dollar because USA was the best, even though it has been 40 years since they have bene any nice to anyone, changing "oh let's stop dollar and start using X instead" doesn't happen, it requires everyone to agree. Sure we all have less dollars in our treasury now, we are de-dollaring, still we deal with dollars first, then sell it.
