If you are completely new to crypto, I would advise you to do some research before making any decision. Don't get into the mindset of trading right away, trading is not something that will help you make a lot of money very quickly or act as a source of income. I actually agree with your advice. This is what has been killing many newbies around and I think it all happens because they probably invested non discretionary funds that's why. Investing money you cannot afford to lose will only result into constant monitoring of your coins and when the market is not performing as expected they end up panicking and selling prematurely.

The best way beginners can actually reduce emotional stress is by distracting themselves away from the market so they don't end up monitoring the price always.
