I'm up for coming too; and maybe hitch a ride with S3052 if possible Wink

Edit: The train service is pretty good as well if not on strike;

I also got convinced that the train is probably best. Lets plan for that..
Lets see if we can brand out train compartment with BITCOIn :-)

lol

I was googling bitcoin as I do every day and I saw that someone twitted Max Keiser about bitcoin.   We all know Max and Stacy Herbert have been "bitcoin friendly" for some time now.

Maybe we could invite one of them to join us for this lunch?  Who knows, they might accept...

I don't have any twitter account, but if you do, feel free to give them a link to this thread.

PS.  Max Keiser lives and works in Paris (well, as far as I know...)

Guys, if we are very numerous it will be hard to find a table in a restaurant.  I can book one but in that case please confirm that you can be in Paris "la Défense" at lunch time on may, the 25th.

But in worst case scenario, we'll always be able to find some room in a café.  So I guess it's fine.
I confirm to be there on May 25 in the morning around 10:30 AM and need to leave by train around 5:30 PM again. Let me know if this can work for you.
In case not, I need to think about planning to stay overnight somehow.

I'll be in Paris with my family next month, and would like to arrange a meeting or two with other bitcoin-people.  Who is in/near Paris, and what would be a good time/place to meet?

Gavin, I will be traveling to Paris to meet there and my current dates are May 24-27th.  Can you please reconfirm that May 25th is the agreed date. Cheers.

As I was thinking about a place where to do this, I thought a symbolic place for finance would be nice.

So, what about having lunch at "la Défense"?

It's quite a nice place with lots of cafés and restaurants, and it's also a large pedestrian place so after lunch we can spend some time there and talk about the project if we want.

Any other idea?

Café des Phares
7, Place de la Bastille 75004, Paris
Metro Bastille

Café Le Bastille
8, Place de la Bastille 75012, Paris
Metro Bastille

These two cafés share not only the prominent location of the Place de la Bastille and all the historical reverence attached to this Parisian cornerstone site, they were also linked to a sort of renaissance movement in Paris cafes known as the Philocafés. These are spots where people would meet as a club, and whose purpose was to philosophize, almost in ways reminiscent of the art and intellectual movement of the early 20th Century. If not in actual potency, they definitely hit a chord with nostalgia. The two bustling cafés have seen it all and probably roll right along with an amused grin.

I'm fine with anything as long as the date is confirmed so I can take a day off work and the place has beer and space enough for all of us Cheesy

From what I see here we won't be too numerous so it will be easy to find a table pretty much anywhere.

I'll PM my mobile number to everyone one day before so it will be easier to meet.

Wednesday May 25'th bitcoin lunch in la Défense is on my calendar.

How often do you get the chance to work on a potentially world-changing project?

For those who don't know, you can get to la Défense whether via subway line 1 or RER line 1, but I very much advise not to use RER.   Use subway as it is faster, less crowdy and terminus is at la Défense, so you can't get it wrong.

Guys, I suck at organizing this kind of things, but I'm pretty sure it will not be difficult to find a nice place even if we don't book a table.  I used to work at La Defense and we often had lunch at various places without booking.  So unless an other french guy wants to book something, there won't be any specific preparations.  It should be fine, really (and possibly more fun, too).

However, considering the fact that we don't know each other (only Gavin's face is known, and no, I won't post a photo of my ugly face on this forum Smiley ), I will PM my phone number to whoever on this thread wants it.  I'll also see if I can make a photo of the meeting point and post it on this thread.  Once we are gathered, we will search for a café/restaurant/whatever.

I hope it sounds good to you.
