Why relying 100% on imports isn’t ideal?

It’s risky during crisis
If a country imports most of its food, oil, or medicine, a war or supply problem can hit it hard. Having some local production gives you a safety net.

It helps the local economy grow
When you make more at home, money stays in the country. Businesses expand and people get jobs, instead of that money going abroad.

It keeps prices more stable
Lots of imports mean you need lots of foreign currency. If you depend less on imports, your prices don’t jump as much when exchange rates change.

But why imports still matter?

They bring lower cost and more choice
Local goods can be expensive to make. Imports often cost less and give people more variety or better quality.

 Balance works best
Make essential things locally for security, but keep importing things other countries do better. It’s not about stopping trade, it’s about balance.

How can a country stay secure and grow its economy by relying less on imports for essentials, while still using trade to get lower costs, more variety, and things it can’t produce well itself?

Not all countries have the financial capacity and the resources needed not to rely on imports, but it should not be in a way the exports from the country would be less. It is very good for a country to import, but the import should be lower than what they are exporting and producing in the country.

Saying imports can let the price of something to be low is true, but people are only deluded because as a country depend more on import, why is inflation rate in such country increasing? What that is very important is good quality of living in a country.

That would depend on what you wish to develop.
Most underdeveloped countries look for more development, so you start building a manufacture, later to be converted into an industry.
A country should be auto sufficient at least to an 80%
Water, food and electricity mainly gives what all need.

I do think countries should focus on building strong local capacity in essential sectors like the food, healthcare and strategic manufacturing, while using imports to complement (not replace) domestic production. Another step needed is investing in infrastructure, education and technology and generally just support for local businesses because this makes domestic industries more competitive over time epesically when the attention and focus is on  the local economy. To be honest, trading should then be used strategically to access goods that are more efficient to produce elsewhere so it creates a balance between economic resilience and the benefits of participating in the global market otherwise the local economy will just be seen as a revenue boost for other countries, like when country kept importing fuel yet the raw material is found right here.

If a country imports most of its food, oil, or medicine, a war or supply problem can hit it hard. Having some local production gives you a safety net.
Exactly, a prime example of this was the recent Iran-US war where the prices of of oil and gas went extremely high in regions where the oil was getting exported from other countries and were stopped at the Strat of Hormuz, and when the import and supply was low, prices were going very high. This can also happen with any other good.

They bring lower cost and more choice

I don't really agree with this point. Imported goods are mostly more expensive than locally produced goods, and I don't know why you are saying that producing goods locally can be more costly. Things that are imported from other countries are mostly considered premium quality in almost all countries and regions around the world, and locally produced goods aren't given as much importance and value as them, but local production can be less costly, and it can also be more affordable for consumers if they start using local goods over imported ones.

Sometimes things are easy to imagine, but in real time, their execution is kind of hard due to many problems. Because not every country is economically strong enough to bear every expense. As sometimes importing some goods makes them cheap cost as compare to making that product in one's own country. But I really know the importance if own country's production as it can generate many opportunities for one's own country's people to work and earn.

Besides this, that country can also generate a lot of revenue if they start to export that good to other countries. And rather than importing the majority of goods from another country, they can start to make the system balance, where they should import some goods and export some goods as well. So, that country can bear the people's facilities expenses of that country. What do you think about this?

Sometimes a country has no choice but to depend on the exports of another country. They cannot grow coconuts in Germany, for example.

But the resources of a country are important and it is just as important to not make yourself dependent on other countries. Because that will never end well. Producing things inside your own country makes your country safer and less dependent. But the entire world is globalized at this point, so it is not something that is easy to do. Even countries that are completely cut off (almost) from the rest of the world, like North Korea, still depend on certain imports.

Yes, countries that intend to develop and be economically sound ought to support their local products more than they patronize foreign imports and it is also because reliance on imports more than locally made products, makes a country very vulnerable to global and geopolitical shocks in the market.
We could see how a consequence of the Iran and U.S/Israel war led to global inflation of oil prices and other products across the world and that's because so many countries don't refine crude oil and even the ones that do, still rely on the trade route to get their imported goods home.

A country that doesn't rely much on imports is one that is secure and economically sound and they can stand their ground when it comes to negotiations of fair trade terms across the global market. This breeds productivity and interdependence and growth.

They can import anything... as long as they export stuff equally.

If they import more than what they export, the difference has to come from somewhere. You either pay more taxes or the central bank prints money which is also a tax, a hidden one.

Imports are not evil.

Not having any exports is.
