First got into programming in 1982. I've been involved with Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies since 2012.

My first bitcoin ventures were COINGATOR.COM and BITCOINRANGER.com. Both got shutdown because of KYC/AML concerns.

I jumped into altcoins and Goldcoin (GLC) in May of 2013. Been working full time on this project for 13 years. Tried the bootstrap method and treasury methods to no avail. Rather than walking off into the sunset and calling it a day, I'm selling the project on Flippa.

The community is in consensus. The new buyer must agree to keep coin rules and consensus rules in place. I'm posting this here to get some feedback on the concept itself.

If altcoins are truly decentralized, should it be possible to sell one on Flippa?

Sorry that Goldcoin did not last this long, but if there are new developers or owners, it's better than it being supporters of the coin, preferably old supporters, so they understand how the coin evolved over the years. But as the new owner, they have the right to change the rules and consensus based on current conditions to move the project forward.

If Flippa allows it, then it's possible it's better to also post this offer on a cryptocurrency forum; it's where the buyers are, and hopefully you'll find one, and the buyer can relaunch or update Goldcoin

you are confusing the two concepts of project ownership and ownership of a distributed network. selling a project on Flippa does not mean selling the entire blockchain. what is being sold is the brand name, domain, code repository, website, digital wallet, and the IP or infrastructure under the current management. distributed nature of this network will only be maintained when independent nodes and miners follow the existing consensus rule. if a new owner come in and imposes changes that the community does not like then the community can easily reject them or fork and go their separate ways. this is how decentralization is supposed to work!

i have seen many altcoin project fail in past due to being too dependent on a single developer. so it is not fair to say that simply changing ownership will solve the problem. from my perspective, if goldcoin is surviving solely on finding a new owner then it proves that it has not been able to create a strong and independent community or ecosystem that does not require a central figure. another concern, is Flippa a legitimate marketplace or not?

I think flippa doesn't allow an only "altcoin" or pure token sales on their platform. With this guide on their website, it seems to be a package just like what ayers have said that it includes other aspects of having a crypto project.

So based on this guide it says:

1. What types of crypto and blockchain businesses can I list on Flippa?

You can list crypto-related apps, SaaS platforms, and service businesses that are built on or utilize blockchain technology. This includes decentralized applications (dApps), payment processors, crypto wallets, DeFi platforms, blockchain analytics tools, and other blockchain-powered services. However, crypto content and affiliate sites should be listed in the Content category.
