Personally, I think the guy should be held accountable for his actions, but in the article, the sportsbook sounded like they were extremely aggressive in their promotion to this guy, I mean, getting bombarded by calls, emails, and other forms of communication is a bit excessive.
The sportsbook took advantage of a mentally unstable individual, and that is of course a very despicable attitude from them. I guess everyone has a weak point, although it's not the same for everyone. But imagine someone taking advantage of you by exploring this weak point you have. That displays the bad character of the sportbook's operators and that is the kind of people you should stay away, if you value your integrity.

On the other hand, we can't neglect the responsability of the gambler himself. It's a world of wolves, but at same time, it can't be used as an excuse to get rid of personal responsabilities and free will.

In the complaint, Miller and his attorney, Yvonne Flaherty, accused DraftKings of breaching policies by creating a product that was “highly addictive and lacking in proper safeguards.

”Miller and Flaherty also argued that the company played a role in his addiction by manipulating the brain’s dopamine receptors.

I am still unable to see any good reason he sued the gambling site. All these are just not good reasons to sue a gambling site. I did not see anything like the gambling site did not self-exclused him when he went for self-exclusion. I guess this will just be a loss case.

If he made huge amount of money from the gambling site, he will be very happy and not sue to gamble site.
But he experienced the other way around and even fall to deep gambling addiction, and lose all his savings intended for his wedding. Undeniably, all his actions and decisions contributed to his irresponsible gambling. The only wrong did by the sportsbook is aggressively tempted him to gamble on their site, when it should only be voluntarily made.

Still, I don't see any winning chances for this case. The root of all these is still the heavy addiction of the gambler that made him unstoppable from gambling, and probably his greed to make more money for his future wedding could also be one of his motivations to never stop gambling.

You are absolutely right, the last time I checked they didn't false him to vote out of compulsion that was his decision, so I don't see any concrete reason why he should sue the gambling site. If someone get addicted to gambling it has nothing to do with the gambling site, that only occurs has a result of the person's carelessness and irresponsible act. He should hold himself responsible regardless of the outcome of the game. I don't know why he chose to question the casino despite knowing the rules and regulations. Gambling operates on two faces, it is either you win or lose that's the fact about it. This is one of the effect of being greedy, gambling has nothing much to offer, he suppose to invest the money in something that is going to productive and beneficial to him, but he chooses gambling thinking that maybe the money will return to him in multiple ways.

This is an example of what i said about gambling not being something for everyone because I can't accept the lame excuse provided by someone who was advised by his father to do self-exclusion from gambling but chose to ignore his father's advice, now blaming the gambling platform for his naive decision when the gambling platforms are doing their own marketing procedure.

I think we gamblers need to be responsible instead of shifting the blame of our addiction to the gambling platform when we ourselves have issues of stopping the game at the right time

I always wonder who these weak men are that blame others for their actions. This idiot pissed away all his money doing something stupid and then thinks the world owes him something. Absolutely pathetic and the weakest sign of a man I can imagine is trying to blame others for your own failures.

Yes, It is not right to blame others for your mistakes, those who gamble beyond their means with the main purpose of getting rich quick based on the words of others and lose money and blame others for their own failures. I do not blame anyone else for this. We always say that gamble with the money you can afford to lose. Never bet with what you can never lose because there is no confirm of winning money through gambling. The results are uncertain. Despite knowing these things, I find it unreasonable to blame others for losing money by gambling based on the words of others.

The crazy thing about being addicted is that on every try you would be thinking that there is a massive up ahead that if you don't play at that moment you will miss out and this completely blinds your eye on the game which is makes it a lot more hard for the gambler to know when he needs to stop or when he needs to restrain because it's not every money that is meant for gambling and also not everytime that one should gamble.

It is always easier for people to justify themselves by shifting all the blame for what is happening to anyone. Moreover, lawyers are people who are willing to defend anyone who pays them for money. Joint participation in their own justification will turn the meaning around and justify this dependent player, moreover, to demand compensation. I always find it funny to look at such stories. How weak does one have to be to be influenced by calls, offers, and other promotional tricks in order to succumb to the temptation to lose such a large amount of money in this way? I am sure that if such a story had not happened, something would have happened to this player that would have taken the money out of him anyway. People are very susceptible to influence, so you don't have to blame the casino, but your own psyche, and treat it.
Normally I do agree, and I think people should take responsibility of their own actions. However, in this case, we are talking about a situation where it is not the same. In this case, casino is calling up and pressuring the person to gamble, giving him gifts and hotel booking and many more, just to keep him playing more and more.

This is like a drug dealer, giving you free drug, so you keep being an addict. I think if the casino didn't do those things, he would have still be an addict, but casino did, so they have some fault in this case as well.

I think the underlying issue here is not the fact that he is a gambling addict but that he is unwilling to take responsibility for his own actions. They say the first step to beating an addiction is to first accept that they have a gambling problem. In this case, it doesn’t seem to me like the young man has done any really self reflection and is trying to turn his life around.

No matter how we look at it, if a gambling site allow highly addictive game's that we already know is ban in some places and regions or on some casinos, that will be a different ball game entirely and the gambler may have a case against the site, most especially now that in his law suite he mentioned the casino contacting via phones call repeatedly that if evidence for I a strong case to nail the casino and with a good lawyer he definitely have a good case.

A man in the US sues DraftKings (a sportsbook) after claiming that the sportsbook led him to gamble away millions of dollars.
Playing the victim instead of taking responsibility for his actions.
A typical behavior of immature folks.

Quote
According to the article, the attorney the guy hired claims that the sportsbook VIP hosts bombarded the guy with calls, emails and other forms of communication, which contributed to his growing addiction, which ultimately led him to gamble the money he saved for his wedding and took out loans to feed his gambling addiction.
We get spam calls and messages all the time from telemarketers and what have you, we simply report and block them. There are so many options on the table but he chose to them them for this.

Quote
The article also said that the guy's father of the guy tried to convince him to request self-exclusion in their state, but the guy declined it.
Help was offered but he declined it because he knew he would at the end transfer his blame for his addiction to the casino and probably win some money out of it.

Quote
The addiction got so bad that the guy wrote a suicide note. After that, he was admitted to a hospital and was diagnosed with severe gambling disorder, anxiety and depression. The article also said that, after the treatment, the guy suffered a relapse and joined DraftKings again, but in the end, he requested self-exclusion in their state.
Glad he got some help but this should be an outright ban and not self-exclusion because he would move on to the next casino.

Even though the sportsbook had their part to play it doesn't mean that he isn't responsible for his actions, he wasn't forced to gamble so I don't see any reason why he would take the bookies to Court. At the end of the day it is a case that he won't be able to win because the sportsbook only advertised and they didn't force him to gamble. The most important thing is that he is recovering from gambling addiction but suing the casino because he lost his wedding funds doesn't make any sense.

He would have a better chance if he had self-excluded himself from the casino, and yet the casino still continued tempting him to gamble.

But in this case, that does not seem to be the situation. He admitted that he is addicted to gambling, but the casino may not have known that.

The casino probably communicated with him through emails or calls because of his status as a VIP. Once you are a VIP, casinos will always want you because you gamble big. They value you because you are a big contributor to their profit.

That is the basic explanation.

It's very strange that I've never heard of or seen someone addicted to alcohol suing and blaming the alcoholic beverage company. I don't understand why, in the case of gambling addicts, they immediately rush to blame the casino. And yet, alcoholic beverage companies are paying for advertising on TV, in newspapers, even in cities where you can see pictures of beer, in restaurants, and in many other places. So why don't people addicted to alcohol blame the alcoholic beverage companies? I think people are responsible for themselves. The casino doesn't force anyone to gamble. So the addicted person is wrong; they shouldn't blame other people for their mistake.

You might be thinking this way, but I have seen a case where a teenager came out to sue a social media platform for making her addicted to their platform, and because of that, she has not been able to do some things she wanted to do, and also, it has affected her life and career path. So, despite it looking like something that doesn't have a case, with a good lawyer, you can get a decent case from it.

I bet that if he had a big win after gambling away his entire wedding money, he wouldn't have sued that casino. We're tired of hearing about gamblers suing the casino they were playing at because they lost big and became addicted. This could have been avoided if they had controlled themselves and not gambled beyond their means.
Even though the gambler had been persuaded to self-exclude, he refused. From this, we see that gamblers are basically stubborn and don't listen to others, so why would he sue the casino when he was the one in the wrong from the start.

I always wonder who these weak men are that blame others for their actions. This idiot pissed away all his money doing something stupid and then thinks the world owes him something. Absolutely pathetic and the weakest sign of a man I can imagine is trying to blame others for your own failures.
Like, it is so funny how some people make their own decisions, face the consequences, and then start looking for someone else to blame.. If you know you can not afford to lose the money, why gamble it in the first place? Nobody forced him to gamble..
Every game comes with the possibility of losing, and that isn’t something every gambler knows.. So trying to win public sympathy after instead of taking responsibility for your own choices is just a sign of weakness..

Personally, I think the guy should be held accountable for his actions, but in the article, the sportsbook sounded like they were extremely aggressive in their promotion to this guy, I mean, getting bombarded by calls, emails, and other forms of communication is a bit excessive.
From everything explained above, it is obvious that this guy is a reckless gambler, because I don't see anything wrong with a gambling platform promoting it's casino with the use of all promotional mediums, such as email, calls and ads. Because it's only with such promotions that casino gets new gamblers. And secondly, nobody forced him to gamble or neither take loans and borrowed money to gamble, because it is obvious maybe he wanted to get rich quick through gambling, but to his greatest surprise he never worked the way he taught, which is why he got depressed and feeling sad (anxiety). So in cases like this, I think the casino has chances of winning, since nobody forced him, but rather he was the one who gambled with the amount he used as lost it.

Yeah, that is obviously what is going to happen. Who would complain when we benefit? No one, right?

For me, he is just making excuses and trying to milk the casino. If he wins the case, and since he already admitted that he is addicted, there is a chance he might do the same thing again and sue another casino when he loses.

This type of gambler is a problem, so making him look like a victim and awarding him money would be wrong.

I also doubt he will really win the case. If he sues and spends money on it, he might only end up losing more.

The accusation of advertising having led to gambling addictions is an established scapegoat to addiction to money. Advertising is merely just a marketing tool, not a force to reckon with. Any loss that is obtained is because of individual decisions in passing the bet button. The mindfulness is very important to evading debt.
