The more I read about Bitcoin, the more I question how one person could have had such a deep understanding of so many different fields. To design Bitcoin, it’s not enough to be an excellent programmer. You also need a strong understanding of economics, monetary systems, cryptograpy, distributed systems, networking and security. Each of those are already a massive field on its own.
That’s what amazes me the most. Becoming highly skilled in software engineering is a huge achievement by itself. Developing a deep understanding of finance and monetary economics is another. Combining all of that into a system as elegant as Bitcoin seems almost unbelievable.
Sometimes I find it hard to imagine that a single individual could have designed something like this. It almost feels like the work of a small team rather than one person. Whether Satoshi was one extraordinary genius or a group of people, the level of interdisciplinary knowledge reflected in Bitcoin is simply incredible.
Maybe it’s because I’m just an ordinary person that I’m having a hard time fully grasping and internalizing this, I don’t know.
