Just as in Nigeria, it's the same in the Philippines. There are too many political colors that makes us divided. But I still believe that there will be a way to fight corruption. And just as you've said about the leader being involved in the massive corruption in my country through flood control projects and other sorts of schemes. There's a time for reckoning. Let's take a look at the other progressive countries too, there's probably a time of their era that they've also faced the same dilemma but its people has stood for it and fought for the treatment that they deserve.

A few years ago, some youths came together and formed a strong group that protested against bad leadership. One of the goals of these protesters was a change of government because those in power were heavily corrupt. The government sent the police and military and murdered many of these peaceful protesters. We thought some international organisations and powerful countries would probe these killings and bring the perpetrators to book. But it never happened, and it has been alleged that Nigeria current president was part of the murder.

I like your belief that one day all this stealing and abuse of office will end. And the people would be governed by only people with character and good vision for the country. And we would be able to enjoy the benefits of the vast natural resources at our disposal.

Being a politician is not that easy, even if they try to become corruption-free, they are just pushed to the limit or be on their side so they can keep looting. When we see a lader is not doing what they promised to become when they ask for votes then just pick the other one in the next election, we don't really have a choice. And the reason why they become such is just can be any reason.

It is easy to become a politician all you have to do is to be strong financially then use your money to sponsor a stronge candidate if he wins he will fix you in a good position so that the amount you spent can be recovered in ten fold. Politicians can't stop looting public funds because it is in the nature and they believe that since voters can't vote them out due to their numerous rigging during election they can steal to use some of the money to lopy their ways in to continue stealing.

There's a saying that stick to my mind - "Good people don't go on politics." I believe this is true. Very rare that you will encounter a politician that live with his real duty to his people. Most will just use his position for personal gain. Corruption I believe is one of the things that most politicians are guilty of. Somehow they will commit such mistake while in position.

There is a time of reckoning. These corrupt politicians will not be in their positions forever and they can't live like that forever. There's a time of reconciliation but it will be from new set of leaders who truly have concern for its nation. I think that people despite the hard situation and political conflict are becoming wiser because the kind of leadership that are being governed to them are visible. We can't turned a blind eye into the corruption and bad leadership that they have. So, it's only a matter of time and someone who's got to be believed by people has to step up.

Even if they don't stay in office forever, during their time in power they continue to exploit the country's resources, institutions, and the trust of its people. The real problem isn't just the departure of one person, but the continuation of the same mentality. It reappears under different names. A leader changes, but the system remains the same. That's why similar problems persist.

Almost all developing countries experience this situation because positions obtained through bribery ultimately lead to corruption and it may be difficult to prevent it if this electoral system remains in place. There is a term "reciprocity" that refers to the position given, which leads to someone serving the interests of the leader and this generally occurs in several cases, especially in my country. Many leaders steal public funds, often referred to as corruption and do so because they have the opportunity or even the means to do so.

To combat corruption, decisive action is necessary, including severe penalties to create a deterrent effect. Furthermore, they should be stripped of their political rights to hold public office. This way, those caught in corruption cases will no longer have the opportunity to enter power, as the ethics of most politicians are now much worse and difficult to trust.

For officials everything will only be a mask, especially those in underdeveloped countries or developing countries, they will bring up a face that looks flawless smooth when they are in the nomination but after they take office they will use their authority for their own interests.

The environment will also always influence because in dirty politics one will not be able to go gray because this deals with attitudes so they will not be at the neutral point of having to choose black and white. If they are on the side of the people they are likely to be shunned and may even be overthrown and must be prepared for the risk but when they are on the opposite side then they must be able not to be caught and shameless.

Maybe this situation will be different in developed countries where corruption laws are heavy (although there are but only a handful) but if in developing countries in the end they will play corruption laws like in my country which even large amounts of corruption are only subject to light penalties because from the beginning the law has sided with corrupt rulers.

Political position don't by itself translate to an act of embezzlement or lotting of public funds if the person in question is not known to be a doer of such act in his little corner. Bad leaders were bad before getting into office, the reason you didn't see it is because they didn't get the such privilege to even start with. Again, corruption at leadership level is not just an African problem, it's a global trend.

That aside, there are people that are corrupt and sees entry into public office as a means through which they can get enriched. They invest so much just to get into such office and spend all their tenure recovering all the funds they've spend during the election.

I have seen some comments from Nigerians regarding the system and I agree with most of them, however, I want to point out what makes the case Nigerian one of serious concern. In some countries like the United States, they have institutions that are strong and even though not stronger than the executives but they can checkmate the executives and tame their excesses. This is different from Nigeria where the executives control both the legislature and the judiciary and even the electoral body are selected by and loyal to the president. What this mean is that there is no check and balance in the Nigerian system, the law enforcements and the various institutions are weak and cannot prosecute corrupt officials. Hence, the politicians enjoy immunity from prosecution and that embolden them to steal whatever that comes their way. Until the unitary system practiced in Nigeria is completely overhauled, it will be absolutely difficult to stop corruption in public service.

in my opinion why corruption exist because the money, and mone is double edge sword and taste very sweet and bring joy to people we might think that our politican is coruppting a lot but sometime it goes deep to lower level like  maybe pay police officer to pass the driver license, or something similiar.

Have you forgotten about this statement "power corrupt, absolute power corrupt absolutely". That's the genesis of corruption. They have legal power, the political system is a weak one with almost zero consequences for corrupt leaders. I know the issue of corruption is unchecked in most African countries compared to other continent but tieing it to African is what I'm not comfortable with. Any system that accountability is weak, corruption is likely to show up and this is not about Nigeria or Africa, it's everywhere.

Leadership doesn't automatically make someone corrupt but bad system corrupt people faster than you can think. That's the problem Nigeria is facing. The few good people in the system can not fix the bad system, they end up becoming part of the bad guys or lose their power. Unless there's severe punishments (e.g death penalty) for corrupt people, it'll continue to increase.

The future of a country lies in the hands of its people, when the leaders are corrupt you will have to neglect them and never vote or take money from them, the issue with Nigeria is tribalism, one group of people will say Yes to a plan and another tribe will say no to it.

The leaders are very aware of it and they are using it as weapon, I bet they are laughing at the people combined already, no change is ever going to come when everyone in the country don't have the same plan in mind.

That's true, Good people don't go into politics, as they might be push to do what its against their principles and since politics is corrupted due to bribes, lies and others things that will be of their self-interest, that is why most honest people don't find it interesting to be part of it, not that they actually hate it but don't want them to change or go against their principles for what they will later regret about it and this will make them to feel bad about it.

Electing out bad government is the only way out from corruption but Nigeria case is different because elections are been rigged which makes the voice of the people silent and their votes useless. That's also true, it's sad that one's regime is just being copied and followed by the next ones whenever they see the money in it. I guess that when they've seen how fat the former leaders are, they can't attain to just sit down and do the right thing. The context of lobbying from your post is understood but lobbying happens in other places and it does not mean that it's a corruption. Big tech does it, wealthy people does it to get favours from the government but then the kind of favour you get is what define if it's a corruption or it's influence on the government.

As per Nigerian government, I can tell you that any politician in power does not work as an ordinary person, check most of the top political individuals, they have been in the same for long, they understand the game and you know why it's hard to eradicate corruption in the surface of Nigeria, it's deeper than you think, it's worse than you think.

You can fight corruption but it need to start form individual, as much as I hate politcal interest within the people, I hate us the people even more. We are just product of the politicians that if given a chance, we will do worse. I'm not sure if things can be save in that country.
