Has institutional adoption changed the way Bitcoin behaves?

Do you think Bitcoin still moves mainly because of ordinary buyers and sellers or have institutions become the biggest force in the market?

Institutions that hold a significant amount of Bitcoin definitely have an influence on market reactions. When a large amount of Bitcoin moves from one address to an exchange address, it can create panic in the market. We know that currently, Bitcoin price volatility is starting to decrease. This could also be influenced by big institutions. Their major power in the market might not be fully visible yet, but what they do in the market can certainly move it to some extent in the direction they want.

I would not say that these institutional investors have less effect on the market especially for bitcoin, but its clear that regardless of the given price volatility, bitcoin gets highly affected especially if these big institutions come up with the idea of selling massive amount of coins like what Strategy did. At some point, they created an impact to the behavioral change of bitcoin.

However, these institutions are not the main character in the crypto market or in bitcoin. It has always been the retail investors who buy and sell bitcoin at their own preferred price and timing. And even if these big institutions leave the market but only left with retail investors, bitcoin and the crypto market will still be sustainable and will continue to thrive.

Do large institutional buyers now have more influence on the market than regular investors?

People with larger pockets will always have more of an advantage, and when they can acquire more through the same means regular buyers do, they can easily influence the price. The same way, they can also influence the price each time they want to dump their holdings. To an extent, I believe they have more hands to influence the market both ways than retail investor.

I believe Bitcoin price movement is being influenced by demand, policies, and selling/buying pressure. One body doesn't control every action that contributes towards how it will react; the effect is what will vary.

You can see how the market reacts when institutions or governments accumulate or issue policies that are favorable toward Bitcoin. The market will tend to react accordingly. From this, we can see that institutions or governments have considerable influence in the market.

But that doesn't mean that regular investors don't matter. In fact, retail investors still play an important role in shaping the market for the long term.

Institutional adoption may seem a music to our ears at first because we thought it could bring great advantage to promote bitcoin. But what we are seeing most of these days is that big institutions become the source of market manipulation. Every time they buy or sell with irresistible amount, it leaves an impact to bitcoin. Which I end up with a conclusion that big institutions tend to make bitcoin centralized instead of promoting its decentralized nature.

With increased institutional adoption in the market, the government also make sure to come up with regulatory interventions, and that's where I think this institutional adoption is defeating the purpose of the ideal nature of bitcoin.

anyone that brings a huge volume of transactions in the market have greater influence.  Regardless of whether it is an institutional investment or a regular wealthy investor's investment, the one who injects huge capital or sell huge amount of BTC will always have a big effect on the market.  So the matter of question about which one have more influence in the market is dependent on which one has larger transaction volume in the market.

Depends on which one provides larger transactional volume in the market, and which one can use the media effectively.

Where money is flowing, people are listening to. And that's why if it's the influence if some institution mentions that they own it, then that will create a reaction from the people who haven't bought.

It's all collaborated effort and influence.

We can't ignore the retailers like us but if it's about the influence they do in the market, it's noticeable since the spot etfs were announced as well as the bitcoin reserves.
