OP - Have you looked into Beyond All Reason?   It's open source, free to play - no paid upgrades at all.    I've been trying to find people to play with for a while.

I had never seen this game before. I'll take a good look at it when I have more free time.

Medieval-type RTS games are great. I've played the old Age of Empires before but haven't tried the newer versions or even the Definitive Editions.
If I remember correctly, I played Rise of Nations before, too, but I'm not sure if that's considered a medieval-type RTS game. 
Just checked the Steam store, and I can see the Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition. It seems it's been sitting on my wishlist for quite a while now.  Have you tried this one, too?

Age of Empire, Age of Mythology these are loved by all. I recently finished the Age of Mythology Retold (the remake version). Man it took me back to my childhood. As for Total War series, I kinda sucked at it. The economy is just too complicated for me. Every time I conquered a land somewhere else rebellion happens. Every time I'm trying to build economy through TAX, people are angry. I could never conquered the entire map ever.

Medieval-type RTS games are great. I've played the old Age of Empires before but haven't tried the newer versions or even the Definitive Editions.

You should definitely try the definitive editions. They are all the same, same engine, just graphics are reworked.
Rise of nation contained all the era, from stone age, to medieval to modern, so I don't it can't be called medieval only.

But I didn't like it much. I wanted Age of Empire to be as Age of Empire classic. At least what AOE 2, 3 felt like. But IV was something else entirely.

I've got another unique RTS Game to share here.
Why would it be unique? 'cause it's old-school isometric. You know those old-school Red Alert games? That's the design of this game, but of course with better graphics.
Plus, it seems the units are unique, too. The game devs say the units will:

take cover, rescue wounded comrades, dive from grenades, vault obstacles and dig trenches.

Obviously, you can also

build your base, secure supply lines and fight across fully destructible massive battlefields that feel alive.

There's a medic tent (bring your wounded soldiers, patch them up, and let them fight again); some enemy units might even surrender; there will be drones, too, and you'll see small speech bubbles when the units talk/shout.

Watching the trailer it looked a little weird to me! I mean it feels more like 2d than 3rd or simply put, the isometric term you used. I tried to find some actual gameplay footage but there were none. But I hope it comes as a great game.

Btw, do you have any other hidden suggestion? I'm out of games man! I literally finished everything. You are aware of my previous game plays! And now, I have also finished Tempest Rising! I have nothing else to play! Not a single decent RTS! Even DLSS 5 is out there, and my 5060 is sitting idle.

First time I've heard of it. Reminds me of that pen and paper game we used to play when we were kids.

It looks like a good grand RTS game wherein your focus is strategy instead of micro-managing lazy units.

Never heard of it before! Tbh, I really suck at overly large maps! You see I'm not much of a strategist. So, I prefer to play Age of Empire, Red Alert, Rise of Nations, StarCraft, C&C -- those sorts of less populated RTS's. Where I get to focus on one two maybe three fronts.

I have two SSD's (1+1= 2TB). I have more than enough storage lol. I just don't keep them.
Anyway, I downloaded them again last night, and already started playing the Veti's side. Yes, human campaign is skippable.
I don't use Steam, as I can't afford to buy those games.

Yeah it's called Warcraft 3: Reforged. The story is pretty much the same as I recall, the only thing that's changed it's the graphics (they reworked everything). It was fun really, took me back to the old days.
I honestly think Arthas deserved a better ending. All he ever wanted was to protect his home and it's people, but at the end nothing remained of him, not even his soul. Really tragic.

Zero hour was probably my favourite C&C game. I liked Red Alert and played that, but Zero Hour just hit the right spot at the time. I still play RTS games from time to time, when I can find time to game these days, which is almost never.

I also played the absolute ton out of "Commandos" 1 & 2 mainly. Absolute masterpieces of games for the time, but where incredibly difficult. I do miss that difficulty that came with that generation of games though. Might not be classified as RTS technically, but very similar feel. You've got the original Wastelands which were fun for their time too. I haven't played any of the recent ones like Wasteland 3.

Stronghold the early ones, heard there's a new one coming out but not sure if that would capture the original feel. Theme hospital while

Actually saw a game that piqued my interest the other day called "Empires of the undergrowth" not sure how good it really is as I haven't played it, but seems like it could be fun and potentially educational?

I'd check it out if it had a decent online community and multiplayer games were quick to find.  Have you played it?  New graphics seems like all it would need to make me happy.  I wouldn't mind if they added controller support somehow if it was done well (like Diablo) so I could play from my couch on the big screen.  Other than that though, the only thing I ever wanted from that game was more players and larger maps.  I was extremely disappointed at the success of World of Warcraft, because it meant this game was shelved forever.  It was honestly where my love for gaming died only to be awakened by the release of Sea of Thieves, which I thought was the greatest game ever made.

Man, is it only me or everyone else that whenever someone brings up these legendary games into the conversation I cannot stop talking about them. I just love talking about the golden days. A few months ago, I had finished Age of Empire 4. And before that, I re-played the OG Legend Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition (with all the DLCs). I have finished them multiple times, but I can never get enough of em. I hope they would bring out more DLCs...

Stronghold was really old, feels 2D. Played it a couple of time, and I sucked at it.

Of course I have played it, otherwise I wouldn't have quoted your post. Not sure of the online community though as I only play offline. But the last I remember the OG version has a big comminity. So I'm gussing so does the reforged one. Yeah the graphics are muchhhh muchhh better. The models are very well build and detailed this time.

Ah yes, it was Warcraft 3. I think it's on Frozen Throne, where DOTA was born. Man, that custom map broke a lot of keyboards back in the day. Not to mention the endless shouting in your face. LAN party play before was so much fun.

Yep, I love Zero Hour, too. Love the realistic feel to it. If you like to relive that nostalgia, I suggest you play the custom mod of Red Alert 3: Generals Evolution. It gives the Generals game some new graphics since it's played on Red Alert 3.

First time I've heard of this, and upon searching, it looks like one of those Ant-themed games. There are plenty of those already, but maybe it could be a fun game; I might try it out, too.

Well, if you played Generals, it's basically the same but with new units, abilities, plus the Generals Challenge mode - there's a total of 9 Generals in that version. I hate playing USA Laser General; he always needs tons of power plants to function. Literally a power-hungry mongrel.

Command and Conquer Generals Evolution (Gen-Evo for short).
It's a mod that runs on another C&C game engine: Red Alert 3, with tons of updates both visually and within the game itself.

Interesting, I thought I exhausted all the mods for Zero Hour, I didn't really think about looking at Red Alert 3 for a generals game. Confused how I've never actually happened upon it either though.

Might have to give this a go over the holidays.
