I don’t think they have access to sensitive informations though.

Things like your passwords, seed phrases or your private messages are protected by encryption and application sandboxing so they are generally not accessible through normal means.

Yes they can collect meta-data’s like device information, application usage, location, network details and other telemetry from time to time but the reason why they do this is to be able to use that information to improve their software, security and sometimes personalization. And this is a common practice in the phone manufacturing industry; i’m shocked that most people don’t know about this.

Now i personally don’t know of any phone manufacturing company that spies on their user’s privacy and classified information with malicious intent but i’m sure that most of the reputable companies would not want to risk doing something like that because i believe they don’t have any incentive to do it and the risks involved are great if they get caught.
Truly, encryption could very well protect your personal information like your password and whatnot... But then again that shouldn't mean that we shouldn't be concerned.. Though it may not include sensitive information like out seedphrases and all, but this metadata have a whole lot of information about you as an individual, things like you location, app usage browsing habits, your phone contacts, age and whatnot, isn't that something we should all be concerned about BluebloodCXVi? Coz honestly this should be a thing of concern.. Let us don't assume that all companies handle our data responsibly, so let's really be careful of even the permission we give out to some of our phone apps that are fond of collecting our personal info...

Some security analysts have claimed that some of the telemetry may have been designed for good reasons, like fraud prevention and device authentication.

And this is where the whole bullshit comes in.
They find ways to extract customers data while making it sound like it's for their best interest.
And living in a country where even the appropriate bodies aren't doing the needful to protect its people, then you have no choice than to ask why these companies can easily do this. Data protection is not even a big thing in the country judging by how carried away so many people are.

Quote
The good news is that the research does not allege that data on passwords, messages, photographs, or financial transactions were collected. However, the government, especially the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), should ensure that personal data of Nigerians is lawfully collected based on local laws and international standards. Any phone maker found violating the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023 should be sanctioned accordingly.

Well, we can never tell if there's a backdoor for extracting passwords and other sensitive data, but it still doesn't change the fact the appropriate authorities might not be as reliable as their name sounds. The least we can all do is to protect ourselves in the best way we can and make ourselves less vulnerable to the common threats that surrounds crypto and data privacy in general.

That data transmitted are majorly for development and upgrades, practically what it is is that the developers need to get some data not sensitive or personal datas or app none like that.

If your data get leaked through your smartphone you may have given the authorisation unknowingly but not third-party access without your knowledge.
I no dey shocked by the news because I know my phone dey listen to my conversations because they have been too many times I don talk about something then my phone apps start showing me that product. The good news be say them no go fit see your seed phrase as long as you no store them online or for your device. Without that, them no go fit hack your wallets even if them know say crypto apps dey your phone. On the other hand, this research show say these tech companies their main goal na to dey trade user data to other companies.
That is right, your smart phone is designed to function with both voice recognition and sensitivity meaning your smartphone understands your voice and body language.

A security firm, NowSecure, discovered that nearly half of Africa’s smartphones are sending hidden user data to China-linked servers. Almost all the smartphones produced by Transsion Holdings contain an embedded telemetry system capable of collecting sensitive information, which includes users’ GPS location, app usage, mobile  data consumption, and camera activation events
And for this singular reason, this is why most times I don't automate my app passwords with my device Google account, which seems to be one of the most common practice by the majority of people this days, whereby they save their bank app passwords, or whichever password with their Google account, so that they can be easily have access to the account without needing to put the password manually again, but forgetting the fact that third party could have access to it from back end. Hence, making it unsafe and a threat to people using Bitcoin wallet, as their information may not also be save if phone manufacturers now have access to basic informations in people's photos. And for this singular reason, it's highly advisable people don't save or automatic whichever money apps they have on their phones to their Google account.
