Thoughts on potential altseason?

Do we think there is a chance of potential altseason next few years like we saw before 2022 or are those times over?

I have been in crypto a few years now and had a few good winners end of 2024 seeing returns of 10x or more but the majority of my altcoins are in the red and not seen any type of positive action since 2021.

I have been reading one of the main reasons altcoins have not performed well since the end of 2021 is because we had QT (quantitative tightening) for 3.5 years from June 2022 till December last year and during QT altcoins do not tend to perform well due to drained liquidity and risk off environment.  Do we think this is a likely reason for lack of altseason or not?

Bitcoin did really well last cycle, going from $15.5k end of 2022 to $126k October last year, a 700% increase and some alts did this but majority did not.

I am just wondering what to expect from alts next few years, are the days of seeing a 30-50x return still possible or should we just be very happy if we get a 10x with altcoins now?

Altcoins rise in the last bull markets, but just that not in a way they reduced bitcoin market dominance.

10x is enough, but some coins will increase more than that and later fall, why some will not increase up to 10x.

10x is enough, but some coins will increase more than that and later fall, why some will not increase up to 10x.

Yeah I know some altcoins did rise, just nowhere near like they did in the last real altseaon in 2021.

I will be happy with a 10x overall next few years, just hoping we have a better altseason this cycle compered to few years ago.

The era of hype is now different, the altcoin season may occur in the next few years especially in its bullish time, it just won't be like the previous cycle where altcoins went crazy.

I myself do not expect the future of altcoins because it never holds in large quantities, of course from you many expect 30x to 50x this will still happen but not all altcoins, so having to be able to find the potential of 50x is indeed a challenge.

Yeah I know some altcoins did rise, just nowhere near like they did in the last real altseaon in 2021.

Not all the altcoins, but many rose more than 25x, but the thing is that they did not rise at the same time and bitcoin market dominance did not fall. I can mention many altcoins that rose up to or more than 25 time. If you check some coins, they even rose 100 to 1000 times or more. But the altcoins are getting too many and they are also riskier now than how risky they were before because it is like I sugarcoat that some rose 1000 times but many fell, losing more than 99% of their value and some later died.

There have always been seasons for each performance of the markets, both for bitcoin and altcoins, and I still believe that we are in anticipation of the altcoin season later this year or towards the beginning of next year, as we may have it. As the picture shows the Altcoin Season Index in the area of 54 at the time I wrote, in other words that it has not yet qualified for Altcoin Season because for altseason it is usually in the 75th and above.
Then in the Historical Context section, on average, the emergence of altseason often occurs every about 22 months. Well now the span is quite long which has lasted 57 months since the last Altcoin Season until now.

The next altseason will be rally for altcoin that truly have product market fit not some fugazi and gimmicks. You will see no more random altcoins with $10 revenue going up because investors realized they need to stick to high volume big market cap coin like anybody else, many these altcoins have nothing to offer beside just existing.

If you are expecting potential altseason, it will happen by narrative, like privacy coin where the price risen so high and perp dex coins and the pump will be contained on that narrative only. Be sure to position yourself only to an altcoin that have real revenue, real PMF, and strong treasury.

The reason for this has been exactly as you mentioned, because quantitative tightening there is no money that can trigger waterfall effect therefore expect smaller scale of altseason. The throw money at random altcoin and let it grow phase has ended.

If we're seeing how stable alts mcap is decreasing. We can take a conclusion if we won't see those times again anytime soon. Long term may be possible, but not for short term. The chart^{(Note: that chart is excluding BTC and ETH mcap)} is clearly saying it all how we're still in the very bearish trend.

My chart above was the proof how altscoins are slowly, but surely getting drained. No bump, and it's steadily moving down.

- So many defi hacks.

- So many memes with the purpose to rug retails

- So many useless copy cats

- So many non innovative and non serious development in alts

In the end, retail becomes the main victim from so many shady things happened in alts. When they gone, they're unlikely to comeback. Things worsen with stock tokenization that is also sucking alts liquidity now.

Nothing to expect. The current climate ain't the same like a few years ago when we had fewers alts to invest and to hype with. Millions scam memes combined with stock tokenizations are raesons why alts is dying now.

We are not sure mate. Are we counting 2025 as not an altcoin season, really? I feel like ethereum went super high, I am not sure why we would not consider that as an altcoin season. Hell, even in 2024 we had SOL going up because of all the memcoins. So I am not entirely sure if I would say that it has been fifty four months since the last altseason because that feels like we would have to consider last year as not an altseason, and I do not agree with that.

Yes, it has been over 12 months, I agree that, but I think not 54, that is very long duration basically. In my opinion, we cannot expect each and every coin in this altcoin space need to touch a new ATH for considering the altcoinseason. Because, there are thousands of altcoins and not every dev is active and not taking care of their project as well. So, whenever few major coin performing well and tests new ATH along with dominance of altcoins in total crypto marketcap exceeds more than 50%, then we could assume about bullish trend of altcoins where many known coins might be still trading around bottom but we cannot do anything about those.

The past few years were like an absolute hype for the altcoins and that's why we've seen a lot of altcoin seasons.

The last year's bull run, we've seen that the altcoins who pumped a lot were limited.

I am holding a few altcoins that are currently 80% down and i will be happy just getting back to break even to, but im also holding some where i got in at a good price and am currently break even or already in profit and expecting to 10x or more next few years.

It's okay if you are thinking why I think that there won't be that much 10x for the new few years.

That's what I have seen in the past, the majority never grown to that point anymore. But just to be fair, there might be some and that's handful.

I am holding a few altcoins that are currently 80% down and i will be happy just getting back to break even to, but im also holding some where i got in at a good price and am currently break even or already in profit and expecting to 10x or more next few years.

Not to discourage you though but, that's based on the past altcoins that I've held and seen. A lot of them never recovered.

However, I wish that you'll be able to recover then if you're 80% down. That's a lot to catch up.

And there's a reason why altcoins didn't pump as much as Bitcoin did in the span of time that you said.
DILUTION.

What I mean is that, there isn't enough money that's being poured on altcoins that's why we aren't seeing a huge jump on them just as many are expecting it to happen. Unfortunately, the pump.fun hype and the meme coin hype happened during the bull market, and that sucked the majority of the liquidity because investors chose to risk their money hoping to invest into a meme coin that will x10 or x100 in just a few days. Many lost into it of course, but the point here is, we haven't seen an altcoin season because of this reason.

As for an altcoin season in the future, I have low expectations anymore because we might see another meme coin hype as soon as the bull run happens. 30-50x altcoins? It's still possible, but that will take time, and they're at the bottom part as well. They're what they considered as "hidden gems". The lower the multiplier, the higher the chances that it will happen, but a x10 is still kind of rare IMO. Maybe those at the top 200-300 in terms of market cap are the ones that can experience this during bull run, but those top altcoins? Lucky if they'll just double or even surpass their previous ATH.

Majority of investors have started understanding that altcoins will put them into big loss so, they have deviated from thinking of making profits from altcoins which is why you see that the altseason in the last circle wasn't like that of 2021 because bitcoin is dominating.

Don't expect to see much price pump in the next altseason because investors are focusing on long term asset which will be a negative impact on altseason.

I think 'alt szn' won't be the same as those ones we've seen before 2022...  Everybody has gotten smarter now and are willing to hyper rotate their stack rather than being a holder of some coin or token.  And there are more tokens being created now because of projects like Pumpfun which makes token creation a lot easier.  

So smarter players and a market of too much supply means there's not really gonna be the good ol' alt szn that we knew and loved.
