Because a successful business can bring much higher income,
That's only if the business is successful, but does everyone who starts a business succeed and immediately earn large profits? Most end up with mounting debt because their business doesn't perform as expected.

Quote
while a job after a degree usually has a fixed salary.

This is why I hate the mindset of most people in developing countries. What's wrong with fixed salary? Do you think people with a fixed salary are incapable of achieving more? Having a stable income isn't something to be looked down on. Because so many people in my country think starting a business is better than pursuing a steady job.. they say, "It's better to be your own boss than to work for someone else," with profits of less than $200 per month, that's ridiculous.

Quote
A degree takes about 4 years and costs a lot. A business can start with small capital and might grow 4 times in those same 4 years. Plus, many graduates still struggle to find good jobs.

As someone who comes from a tribe with a educated background, I find it quite amusing to see people say things like this. This is why education is so important: it doesn't guarantee you a job, but at least you have a greater chance to improve your life and shapes your mindset.

Starting a business isn't as easy as motivational speakers make it out to be.. and even though many graduates are unemployed, that doesn't make getting a college degree useless.. that's all I need to say.

Not every business requires a degree but there are certainly business that requires a degree to run it, there are big businesses that requires a degree to run especially in their accounting department and other departments too, you'll agree with me that degree is very important although I understand that you have not disputed that fact, there also businesses that skills and experience plays the highest role in, like in the tech world no one will be asking you about your degree, it is a practical thing, what you can offer to the firm.

If I had not gotten a degree yet and I had the opportunity to start a business before purusing my degree, I won't have any problem with that, however, whichever of them that I'm opportuned to have first, I will be good with it, although I know that business requires knowledge and determination but I believe in learning which I know that one has to start from somewhere to be able to learn.

Depends heavily on the type of business. Skills and experience matter more day-to-day, but a degree still helps in fields where credentials open doors you can't open otherwise — regulated industries, anything requiring licensing, or raising capital from investors who screen on paper qualifications before they even meet you.

That said, the "4 years, fixed salary" framing undersells what a degree actually buys: not just the piece of paper, but a forced environment to build a network, learn how to learn, and fail cheaply before the stakes are real. A lot of what makes a business succeed — reading people, handling uncertainty, cash flow discipline — isn't taught in either place. You get it from doing.

If I had to choose: start the business, but treat the first year or two as your actual education. If it fails, you've lost less time than four years of tuition and gained something a classroom can't teach. If it works, the degree question mostly answers itself.

•Do you think a degree is important to run a business, or can skills and experience replace it?
It depends on the kind of business you want to run, but basically even if you are not considering getting a degree from a higher institution, you should at least know how to read and write because not knowing how to read and write and trying to run a business can be disastrous.

Quote
•What would you choose: start a small business without a degree, or get a degree first and then start a business?
Having a degree can influence your level of thinking in the business, and the level of thinking of the leader of a business can affect the growth and success of that business. If you have a degree and go into some businesses, you'll be more exposed than someone who is running that same business without any form of higher education. Higher education gives you some level of brain exposure that people who are not on that level may never have. This is why you can observe that a professor's level of thinking and a mere graduate's level of thinking can be completely different, and if they are to run a business where their level of thinking is very important, the business of the professor will do better.

Why do so many people prefer starting a business over getting a degree?
Because a successful business can bring much higher income, while a job after a degree usually has a fixed salary. A degree takes about 4 years and costs a lot. A business can start with small capital and might grow 4 times in those same 4 years. Plus, many graduates still struggle to find good jobs.
A person has to spend at least 25 years to earn a degree, then when he goes to work, he has to spend 3-4 years to gain experience and to reach a good position in his career, he needs a total of 35-40 years, but here too he has to be a victim of corporate politics. Career life is very difficult, so I always prefer business, here some technical knowledge is more needed than a degree.

Quote
•Do you think a degree is important to run a business, or can skills and experience replace it?
A degree is not required to run a business. Management and leadership skills are required. While earning a degree, one can earn various skills but one cannot become a successful businessman through a degree and in the job market, a degree is just a formality. In the job market, skills and experience are also required.

Quote
•What would you choose: start a small business without a degree, or get a degree first and then start a business?
While running a small business, you can easily continue your education and earn a degree, so I think it is very important to gain your skills and real experience by starting a small business rather than waiting for a degree to be successful.

Why do so many people prefer starting a business over getting a degree?
How did you came to this conclusion? The ony people that prefers starting a business instead of getting a degree are people whose parents can't afford to fund their education or those who cannot read and write. People still want to be educated and get a degree because of the stigmatization that uneducated people always feel in the society. I know an auxiliary nurse who is doing well for herself financially but she still want to go to school, get a degree, become a registered nurse and probably get a licence. I know that some people are born genius such that they can do well in a particular thing even if they don't get a degree but believe me, a lot of people who are uneducated still wish they had the money to afford going through academics and get a degree. In a nutshell, poverty is the cause why people are choosing business over getting a degree. If you take a look at children of wealthy people, almost all of them has a degree except the ones who choose a different part.

To gain skills, you need to get education. Earning a degree in a specific subject will help you gain skills. During this apprenticeship, you will not only gain knowledge in one subject, but you will also have to practice on every global subject for the purpose of education, so you will be able to gain more skills.

I think it is more important to earn a degree before starting a business. To get a job, you have to earn a degree because it is a criterion that you are a person with a patient mindset and that you are a thoughtful and capable person.

I think a good businessman has to earn a degree, only then will he be able to improve his business quickly. There are very few businessmen who are able to improve their business through skills. I believe that if they had earned a degree, they could have improved their business more.

I've heard a lot millionaires and billionaires interviews where they admitted that the principles of getting rich is not taught in schools, if you want to become rich you have to think like the rich, when you do there is a high chance that you will become like them and you will employ people with degrees to work for you. In today's world degrees are necessary to equip yourself with specific knowledge to do specific jobs which you would become a professional at but to actually become rich you need to think beyond your degree and think like a business person, that is how you become rich. Some people will just skip a degree and directly think like the rich to become wealthy.
I gree with this thought, our school syllables are quite different from the skills that are require for market jobs. Because of this mismatching students have to spend additional years on getting extra learning about how to get success in business. Or otherwise they have to read extra books for getting experience. In all these time he has to spend huge amount of money. After spending lot of money it leads to affects negatively their financial condition. Transportation cost or other expenses create lot of burden on families. The expenses are now beyond their financial capacity, so youngsters prefer to put themselves in business rather getting degree. Moreover degress are also not guarantee of getting successful jobs. That's why it shifted people mindset from degrees to business.

Though what you said is correct but in years back, People were interested to acquire degree than doing business because as you finished school, jobs were there for you to work but as the current climate change, things are not like before again. Even after graduating from school and acquired the degree/certificate yet there is no job for more than 20 years so for that people started changing their orientations to business. Yes even with the degree certificate, business is better than government jobs because the profit you will make from your own business will be bigger than the job salary but that depends on the kind of business because not all businesses can give you good profit.

For me both business and degree are different asset, business is an asset that create cashflow and degree is investment on human capital along with skill, experiences and reputation. Business make our human capital become financial asset (fresh money, investment, stock, gold) both are not substitutes for each other.

Based on my experiences as business owner, why many people choose be a businessman becuase earning potential is not limited by time. Business has many leverage and it can make income and no longer completely dependent on the owner's time and the most interesting thing, business can be inherited so we can create generational wealth.

On the other side, degree considered less attractive, because it takes too long for return of investment, manya see business give faster ROI. Beside that because surplus of labor caused economic value of degree decrease coupled with advances in information technology which is internet can make everything simplified, everybody can make money from online selling, become content creator, affiliate, dropship or freelance.

Not everyone in developing countries has this mindset, but you may be right that many people really do think this way.

You know what's even more ridiculous? Many of them do not even have a stable source of income. Or others have never run a business and have no real knowledge or experience in it, yet they still try to convince other that being your own boss is always better than working for someone else.

No offense, but from my observation, those who look down on education often do not have the life they dreamed of. Some of them even struggle to support themselves, let alone run business and become wealthy.

If they pay attention, they'd see that the wealthiest countries and richest people in the world generally have strong educational foundations. So it would be quite short sighted to think that spending time on education is a waste.

I will prefer to go to school before starting up any business because I will do it in a unique way based on my experience in school compared to a lame man.
It's a good start if you're going to school before starting a business. Because if someone is going to school to start a business, one thing there is that most of the knowledge you'll gain is theoretical.

I'd go to school to have a degree but not mainly thinking of studying business there. It might be the place where I can create some ideas that I can profit and start a business with.

But I am past that, and it's only too late for me to decide for these matters. I advise the young ones to just keep on exploring while you have bunch of time to figure out what suits you.

I don't think more people prefer starting a business than finishing a degree. People may want to start their business but at the same time, they want to have a degree. Or some may want to finish a degree but due to financial circumstances, they can't afford that's why they resort to take risk and start a small business to find income.

Entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners would actually prefer having a degree. Especially a degree related to business because it'll help them even more in their journey. AND finishing a degree doesn't mean you'll only be an employee working for other people, having a fixed salary. They can still pursue their own business if they want to.

•Do you think a degree is important to run a business, or can skills and experience replace it?
Yes. A degree and background also plays a big role in a business. It'll be hard for someone who doesn't have any bits of knowledge in running a business to start their own. But it doesn't mean that having no degree means you won't be successful in your business. You may have the skills, but having knowledge and background will also be beneficial too.

•What would you choose: start a small business without a degree, or get a degree first and then start a business?
If I have the means to finish a degree and to start a business, of course I'll choose to study first before building my own business. Who wouldn't want that? Running a business isn't easy. What more if you have no knowledge at all? Yes, you can learn things with experience but accounting and finance, learning more about the market, strategies, competitions, these are just some of the things that you can learn in class and apply in your business.

No matter how we want to look at it, education is very important, even people who have businesses still wish to have a degree. Why most people venture into businesses instead of going to get a degree in school now, most times because of the state of economy we find ourselves. Inflation everyday, high cost of living, making it hard for people to even go to school. So the goal then switches to make money first for survival before thinking of getting a degree and most times due to the fact that unemployment of graduates are on the high side, people no longer border going to school to get a degree again because they believe at the end, it will be to no avail getting a job, so it better they learn a skill, start up a business.

Why do so many people prefer starting a business over getting a degree?
Because a successful business can bring much higher income, while a job after a degree usually has a fixed salary.
Actually people are more inclined towards business not only because of the hope of higher income but also because of the freedom to make their own decisions. However as much as successful business stories are seen, the stories of small businesses that fail are not as common.  Also it is more important to judge your own preparation and skills than to make decisions based solely on potential income.

In many cases skills and practical experience can make up for the lack of a degree but the practice of applying them in practice after learning makes the real difference. You can't become a good entrepreneur just by having a certificate, and it's not impossible to be successful without a degree.

This essentially depends on the individual future goals. If you aspire to be an entrepreneur a bachelor's degree is not mandatory as running a business relies on practical skills, experience, execution and the ability to learn from the market. A degree can only provide basic knowledge, insight and networking. Many successful businesses are built without a degree, especially if they focus solely on solving real-world problems and selling.

Many graduates are unemployed because the job supply is much smaller than the demand. This is why many unemployed graduates begin to think that pursuing a degree is a waste of time. However, to be a successful entrepreneur, you need to possess skills that are sought after by the market not just your degree. In short, becoming a business owner requires prioritizing skills and action. A degree is optional.

•What would you choose: start a small business without a degree, or get a degree first and then start a business?
I might prefer to start a small business first without a degree rather than getting a degree first, which would take 3 to 4 years. because I think that time would be better spent building a business or even investing the money in other things. That doesn’t mean I don’t like the world of education. After all, I have an educational background myself. In fact, I enjoy reading and writing. However, what I mean is that I’d rather prioritize things that can’t be put off. As for earning a bachelor’s degree, I think we can do that once our business is stable or when we’re in a solid financial position. After all, the real purpose of earning a degree is to enrich our knowledge or expand our understanding in a specific field. not just for the sake of a job. Although it seems that nowadays, most people who go to college do so solely to secure a good job in the future after they graduate and earn their bachelor’s degree. Personally, I prefer to delve deeper into a subject because of my curiosity about that subject.

•Do you think a degree is important to run a business, or can skills and experience replace it?
•What would you choose: start a small business without a degree, or get a degree first and then start a business?

The answer to this depends mainly on the region that you reside in, there are places in which your certificate plays a major role in you getting employment but then there are countries in which they have more graduates than jobs available therefore it becomes a problem for the companies to be able to hire everybody instead your skills or other things you have becomes a leverage for you to get that job. I will prefer you start a business instead of searching for a certificate that becomes useless the moment you leave the four walls of the university. There are those that it is better for them to stay in school and study instead of going into business since they have no skill in that business as they will just be wasting their time. Everything depends on what you want for yourself so instead of looking at replies, find what works for you and do just that.

•Do you think a degree is important to run a business, or can skills and experience replace it?
•What would you choose: start a small business without a degree, or get a degree first and then start a business?
I won't say education is not important because having a degree and having an education are different. A person can have a degree by bypassing education, which seems impossible in some regions, but in others it is as easy as buying cola from a shop. So a degree is not important to run a business, but having education, maturity, and different ideas that you learn when you start your education is important to run a business because it gives you confidence and prepares you for the worst.

But I think business and education are a subjective choice. If I can't start a business, I will definitely do a job. Most of the people in the world are doing jobs, and fewer people have started businesses.

I would choose education over starting a business, and that's exactly what I did. I do have a job, but I am preparing to manage two other sources of income. One is passive, and the other is my portfolio because depending solely on an active source of income is very risky. The day I stop doing the job or get fired, it will be harder for me to survive. So I will move on to the next step slowly by securing some emergency funds first.

To become an entrepreneur, yes degree is not necessary but at least just know how to read and write and you are good to go. Every entrepreneur you see in this world did not go to school to get that knowledge, but they have the skills that is why they are able to build it themselves. The main goal of mostly everyone is to have money, how to get that money you really have to have skills that people want so that you can be able to grow fast.
Quote
Many graduates are unemployed because the job supply is much smaller than the demand. This is why many unemployed graduates begin to think that pursuing a degree is a waste of time. However, to be a successful entrepreneur, you need to possess skills that are sought after by the market not just your degree. In short, becoming a business owner requires prioritizing skills and action. A degree is optional.
In this aspect, mindset matters a lot because a lot of people are going for their degree thinking that after every there will make it through it. This mentality is what is making some of the graduate regretting their life, just because their aim was not achieved. Aside School, is better we should be thinking of having a very good skills because even though we have hope that our degree will give us a better life, the skills we play its role in the process of getting that.

Just like we always say, what works for you might not work for others, and vice versa. Also, business is not for everyone. We can't just look down on degree holders because without them, how can you run a business? Where are you going to get your capital if you don't look for a job first and save money? Would the bank give you a loan without a good credit history? Unless you come from a wealthy background, you can't just start right away.

If you don't have that advantage, then you really need to take it step by step. First, get a degree, save money, then start a business. It just shows that a degree is where you start if you don't come from a lot of money.
