WHAT IS BITCOIN SCAM INVESTIGATOR?

Bitcointalk has thousands of disputes involving casinos, exchanges, traders, projects, investors and service providers.
Some are obvious.
Some are complicated.
And some sit somewhere in the middle, where both sides tell a convincing story.
Screenshots contradict each other.
Terms change.
Transactions don't add up.
Important evidence is buried hundreds of posts deep.
And sometimes the truth is simply: We don't have enough evidence to know.

Bitcoin Scam Investigator turns these real-world Bitcointalk disputes into investigation challenges.
You are given a real case and a collection of starting evidence.
Your job is to investigate it.
Not to blindly support the accuser.
Not to blindly defend the accused.
Follow the evidence.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Every 4-5 days, a new case will be published.
Each case will contain:
  • A real Bitcointalk dispute

  • Background information

  • The relevant accusations

  • Starting evidence

  • Investigation questions

  • A set of tasks for investigators

  • A prize pool

Your job is to go further.
Search the forum.
Find older posts.
Check archived pages.
Compare Terms & Conditions.
Follow transactions.
Reconstruct timelines.
Compare statements.
Find contradictions.
And, most importantly:
Come to your own conclusion.

SEASON 1

Season 1 will contain 10 CASES.
One case approximately every 4–5 days.
The difficulty will gradually increase.
The early cases are designed to help new investigators understand the format.
Later cases will require substantially deeper investigation.

By the final cases, you may need to:
  • Reconstruct financial flows

  • Compare historical versions of Terms

  • Investigate casino promotion systems

  • Examine multiple Bitcointalk threads

  • Track contradictory statements

  • Find archived evidence

  • Distinguish technical errors from intentional abuse

  • Determine what can actually be proven

PRIZES

Each case will have a $15 PRIZE POOL
1st place - $10 (For the strongest overall investigation).
2nd place - $5 (For another strong investigation that deserves recognition).

Best Discovery - $5 (Extra)(For the participant who uncovers the most valuable individual piece of evidence).
That could be:
  • An old Terms version

  • A deleted/archived post

  • A transaction

  • A hidden contradiction

  • An important casino statement

  • A previously overlooked piece of evidence

  • A calculation that changes the case

You don't necessarily have to write the longest post to win.
Sometimes: One piece of evidence can change the entire investigation.

SEASON 1 LEADERBOARD

Individual case prizes aren't the only competition.
Investigators will also accumulate Season Points across the 10 cases.
The goal: Become the Bitcoin Scam Investigator - Season 1 Champion

Points will reward:
  • Strong investigations

  • Original discoveries

  • Correct conclusions

  • High-quality evidence

  • Consistent participation

The leaderboard will be updated throughout the season.

WHAT COUNTS AS A GOOD INVESTIGATION?

A good investigation isn't:
“Casino is scam.”
And it isn't:
“Player is lying.”
Those are conclusions.
I want to know: Why?

A strong investigation should answer questions such as:
  • What actually happened?

  • When did it happen?

  • How much money was involved?

  • What does each side claim?

  • What evidence supports those claims?

  • Which evidence contradicts them?

  • What do the Terms actually say?

  • What happened to the money?

  • What remains unexplained?

  • What conclusion is justified by the evidence?

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO CONCLUDE:

🟢 The accusation is strongly supported
🔴 The accusation is not supported
🟡 Both sides have valid points
⚪ There isn't enough evidence to determine what happened
That last answer is completely acceptable.
In fact, recognising that the available evidence isn't sufficient can be a better investigation than forcing a conclusion.

WHERE SHOULD YOU LOOK?
You are encouraged to investigate public sources such as:

Bitcointalk
  • Original accusation threads

  • Casino announcement threads

  • Older posts

  • Staff replies

  • Archived discussions

  • User histories

Web archives
  • Historical Terms

  • Deleted pages

  • Previous versions of websites

  • Old promotions

Blockchain
Where relevant:
  • Deposits

  • Withdrawals

  • Transaction histories

  • Payment addresses

Other public sources
  • Official announcements

  • Public documentation

  • Archived pages

  • Public statements

The goal is to build an evidence trail that another investigator can independently follow.

WHAT YOU MUST NOT DO

No hacking
Do not attempt to access private systems, accounts or databases.

No doxxing
Do not publish private information such as:
  • Home addresses

  • Phone numbers

  • Private emails

  • KYC documents

  • IP addresses

  • Account credentials

No harassment
Do not harass casino representatives, accused users, accusers or other investigators.

No fabricated evidence
Screenshots, transactions, quotes and sources must be genuine.

No baseless accusations
Calling someone a scammer is not evidence.

No plagiarism
You can build on another investigator's discovery, but give them credit.

WHAT ABOUT AI?

AI tools are allowed but there is an important rule: AI cannot replace investigation.
A generic AI-generated answer without original evidence or reasoning will not be competitive.
Your submission should demonstrate that you actually investigated the case.

HOW WILL CASES BE JUDGED?

Each case may use slightly different criteria, but generally I will look at:
  • Evidence quality - Very high
  • Reasoning - Very high
  • Primary-source research - Very high
  • Financial reconstruction - High
  • Fairness/objectivity - High
  • Original discoveries - High
  • Presentation - Moderate
I am not looking for the longest post but the strongest investigation.

HOW TO SUBMIT AN INVESTIGATION
Each case will provide a recommended submission format.

Generally, your investigation should contain:
Investigator - Your Bitcointalk username.
TL;DR - Your conclusion in 3–5 sentences.
Timeline - What happened and when?
Evidence - What did you find?
Contradictions - Where do the stories differ?
Analysis - What does the evidence actually show?
Verdict - What do you believe happened?
Unresolved questions - What can't be established from the available evidence?

ONE IMPORTANT RULE
Don't investigate with a predetermined conclusion.

If you start with: “The casino is obviously a scam”, you'll probably find evidence supporting that belief.
If you start with: “The player is obviously lying”, you'll probably find evidence supporting that too.
Instead start with: “What can I prove?”

WHY AM I DOING THIS?

Bitcointalk disputes often disappear into enormous threads.
A new reader may have to go through hundreds of posts
, multiple screenshots
, several accusations
, deleted messages
, contradictory statements
, old terms
 & transaction histories
 to understand what actually happened.
The goal of Bitcoin Scam Investigator is to make these cases easier to investigate systematically.

Maybe you'll discover: The casino was clearly wrong,
Maybe: The player was clearly wrong,
Maybe: Both sides made mistakes,
Or maybe: Nobody can know for certain from the available evidence.
All four are legitimate outcomes.

THIS IS NOT A CAMPAIGN AGAINST CASINOS

Cases may involve casinos because gambling disputes frequently contain interesting evidence trails.
But the project isn't about attacking casinos.
The only requirement is: There must be something worth investigating.

THE SEASON

Over the next several weeks, we'll investigate:
10 real cases
Some will be relatively straightforward.
Some will be messy.
Some will have overwhelming evidence.
Some will have conflicting evidence.
And at least some will probably leave us asking: “What actually happened?”
That's part of the challenge.

THE ULTIMATE GOAL

At the end of Season 1, we won't just have ten winners.
We'll have a leaderboard of investigators who consistently demonstrated the ability to: find evidence, follow money, spot contradictions, question assumptions, reconstruct events and separate facts from speculation.

ONE LAST THING

You don't need to be a professional investigator.
You don't need to be a lawyer.
You don't need to be a blockchain expert.
You just need: Curiosity, Patience & Critical thinking.
And a willingness to dig through Bitcointalk until you find something everyone else missed.

SEASON 1 STARTS NOW.

Case #001 - The Betmoco Incident
Case #002 -
Case #003 -
Case #004 -
Case #005 -
Case #006 -
Case #007 -
Case #008 -
Case #009 -
Case #010 -

Good luck, investigators.
Follow the evidence.

This might actually be a cool idea and I am interested to see who participates. I will suggest you try to condense the OP a little though as people may not real the whole thing as it's a short story basically. Might be interesting to watch it play out though. Good luck, i'll be watching.

Even better idea - ask someone to turn this OP into an ANN banner.

Even though this isn't really an announcement, the same template will still work there.

(I can make these kind of banners, so if you are interested just send me a PM)

I gave you a couple merits because the idea sounds great in principle. Hope that it catches on.

Thanks, and yes I agree, OP got a little too detailed.  Embarrassed
I wanted to explain the concept properly since this is kind of an announcement thread.
Individual case threads will be a bit shorter and more concise.
Really appreciate you following along.  Smiley

Season 1 is already live, so I don't plan to make any major changes to this thread since there will be individual case threads following it.
But it's definitely something I'd consider for the next season.

Thanks for the support & merits.  Smiley
The real goal is to get people digging into the evidence and discussing cases rather than just reading another accusation thread so let's see how Case #001 goes.

Love the ideas.

As a casino player, these can be helpful. the thread case reported is not just from the case, but everything needed to be fully explained: on-chain transaction proofs and other factors as well.

Cool, and hopefully to see more people are putting some effort into the BSI thread Season 1. GL!
