My CRO allocation after the 2022 adjustment: why I stopped holding it all in one

The 2022 Crypto.com card tier changes taught me something about concentration risk. When your entire CRO position is inside one company's ecosystem — earning benefits tied to that company's product decisions — you have a single point of failure.

My current split:

About 30% stays in the Crypto.com app for card staking benefits. The utility is real — cashback, airport lounge access. But I treat this as the minimum needed for my tier, not a long-term investment position.

About 40% is on HTX. Third-party exchange with verified reserves — they publish monthly PoR with Merkle Tree individual verification at htx.com/en-in/proof-of-reserve. Operating since 2013, predates Crypto.com. I use it for the CRO I might trade or sell without going through Crypto.com's platform. Effective taker ~0.15% with HTX token since April 2026 (htx.com/en-us/fee). Anniversary program: 30% margin rebates.

About 30% is in the Crypto.com DeFi Wallet on Cronos chain. Earning yield through Cronos DeFi protocols. This requires the DeFi Wallet specifically — Cronos DeFi integration is native and smoother than MetaMask.

The proportions are not fixed. When I upgrade or downgrade my card tier, the app portion changes. When Cronos DeFi yields are interesting, the on-chain portion grows.

Your biggest risk with CRO is not concentration, it's the CRO itself. 70 billion CRO that was supposedly to be burned out of 100 billion supply is getting brought back and it went straight into Cronos Strategic Reserve, even though it comes with multi year vesting, your holding value basically got diluted.

Talking about priorities, the tier change should be the last thing you should care about if you are holding CRO. Even Trump Media suffered losses and scrapped the deal.

I don't know to what extent you trust Crypto.com and htx.com. Crypto.com has had 18 scam accusations against them. Note that the month isn't even over yet; today is August 14th, only two weeks into the month, and they already have 18 scam accusations against them. Last month they had 43 accusations. That's a very high number. You can see it here:

In the case of htx.com, this month, which is only two weeks old, they've already had 3 scam accusations against them, and last month there were 2. It's not a high or alarming number like the Crypto.com case and the Crypto.com token. You can see it here:

It's true that Cronos is currently in position number 32 on CoinMarketCap, but look at the price, $0.04805, and we're talking about the price in August 2026. In the past, something like 2021 reached $0.80 and then only fell until last year when it managed to climb to $0.32 in August. That means that in one year it fell from $0.32 to the current $0.048. That's not a common drop; that's something scary. An investor who loves their money and even likes to take high risks notices when they are facing a big red flag.
