Reducing inequality is a mission we often place on governments, but they have no alternative but to do so through taxes. And they collect those taxes from us...

Why don’t we do this directly ourselves instead of putting an intermediary in the middle? Aren’t intermediaries factors that increase costs? Aren’t they structures that require oversight mechanisms?

Instead of helping someone ourselves, we expect someone else to do it, and then we demand that it be monitored...

So, the answer in my personl view of why that gap will always exist is because no one has a limit to getting wealth, there is no roof that limits a person from getting a lot of wealth for himself or his group.

People are victims of governments' bad management with populist measures, spending more than they collect and ends up raising more taxes to collect more. And the companies have to make a choice, either lower salary or lay off. The government doesn't help, still gets in the way, the government doesn't even do the basics, quality education, security and health. The people aren't at fault, most are workers who survive, don't live, if the population had quality education they would vote better, wouldn't fall for politicians' lies just to win elections and govern with their own interests.

The problem with such systems is that it encourages laziness from the citizens of the state, because they knows that they will still be rewarded for their laziness, unlike the capitalist system where you will be rewarded based on your efforts.

The gap between the rich and poors will continue to exist or might even expand as long as we allow superiority, and greedinees to swallow our humanity. If the riches are kind enough to take the poors along majority of us will be rich by now. The richest man does not have to give everything out, because he is not running a charity organisation, but at least little help count. Helping the less privileged people will not make you poor, but it is what it is, everyone has the right to believe what they want.

Honestly economic growth and wealth distribution are not the same thing. In country new companies may be created or technology may advance but if that opportunity does not reach everyone equally, then its impact on the lives of ordinary people is limited. It is like two boys of the same age, one from a good family in the city, from childhood getting good school and top class opportunities. The other from a poor family in the village, his talent may be more than the boy from the city but the opportunity to learn good education or skills is very limited. The rich obviously gets richer and the poor gets poorer because of the way modern economic systems are structured and that is, gains remain concentrated at the top while only bread crumbs fall to the bottom.

In a capitalist economy, only those who are smart or solve problems make money. Entrepreneurs are the richest in a capitalist system. These business owners create products to satisfy the needs of people, including the poor, thereby expanding their fortune. It is sad that the middle class is gradually becoming obsolete because the gap between the poor and the rich is increasing. The rich are not under any obligation to give to the poor in this system. Anyone who wants to come out of poverty would have to be creative and productive instead of waiting for assistance from the rich or the government.

Productivity and opportunity

I think that's what countries needs to focus on if they want to reduce the wealth gap. Take the analogy of a local farmer and a commercial farmer.

A local farmer can work extremely hard on a small piece of land but still earn very little because he may lack machinery, irrigation, affordable financing, storage and reliable access to markets. A commercial farmer with tractors, irrigation, access to financing, storage facilities and established buyers can produce far more from the same amount of land with less manual labour.

That said, I think this is an important part of the wealth gap that isn't always discussed. It would be wrong to measure the gap by how hard people work, but also about how productive the environment around their work allows them to be.
