In the normal open source development sense, yes. But does that mean it is "verified and safe"? No software can honestly be described as absolutely verified safe, though. Also, open source doesn't automatically mean safe. Someone still has to review the code, and reviewers can miss things.

I think what you should avoid are the phishing messages or going to the wrong site for the firmware update. You are safe as long as the update is done through the official website or through the right GitHub link. https://trezor.io/other/product-updates/trezor-firmware-changelog-all-versions-and-release-datesIt is better you update it than to be using the old version. No one is complaining about the update since August 19, 2026 which was 4 days ago.

As mentioned above, given that the release date was 4 days ago, and there have been no reports of malicious activity, it's probably safe to use. The code itself also seems to have been pushed a few weeks ago: https://github.com/trezor/trezor-firmware/releases/tag/core%2Fv2.12.4Unless Trezor has stated otherwise, it's probably safe to continue using the version you're currently using anyway;

There's no software to fully verify and check if the latest firmware update is safe. The only way to know if it is safe is if you manually check the source code from their GitHub page, which is provided above.
You can download that firmware from GitHub and then flash the device via install custom firmware under the danger area. If you trust Github, than just clicking update from Trezor suite then review the open-source code from Github to verify if it is safe or not.
To me, even with any device I have in my house, usually I don't update the firmware for almost a week or two at least to make sure no one is reporting any issue about the firmware. Just like Antminer units, sometimes it gets corrupted and has some issues after flashing firmware. That is why I always wait for a few weeks or until at least the current unit is having software issues; that is the time for me to update the unit.
Do this the same in your Trezor, but if your current firmware reported vulnerabilities, better update it immediately.

Depends on what you mean by "safe", any release build already passed automated test, otherwise it won't pass. So, it's safe from the developers perspective.
Since it's open source. If there is an issue found by the community someone would've raised the issue or reported it.
But whether it's truly safe or not, nobody knows.
Probably somebody have looked at the diff and found nothing of concern.

It is best not to perform any update unless it is necessary or to fix a security vulnerability. It is best to wait a week or 10 days before downloading to ensure that a sufficient number of downloads have been made and that there are no complaints. This way you reduce the risks to a minimum.

Trezor firmware and software are upgraded directly through Trezor Suite and unless someone has fake ones I don't see why you mention their website or github link as possible options? I don't know if there is any other way to update the firmware, but as far as I know, an SD card is not used for that purpose.

I think this is an opportunity for me to get a general opinion on how long is relatively ok to wait before making updates. Sometimes it takes more than a couple of days before vulnerabilities eventually get discovered. This is not just a topic for hard ware wallets but also software wallets too. For hardware most issues seem to come from when you generate your seed on the device with a weak firmware. It is best not to perform any update unless it is necessary or to fix a security vulnerability. It is best to wait a week or 10 days before downloading to ensure that a sufficient number of downloads have been made and that there are no complaints. This way you reduce the risks to a minimum.
I think this might just work too . You can't be overly careful for things like these.

All Trezor updates can be checked ans verified on their github or official website page, but if you received update notification in Trezor Suite app, than it is safe to update. Updates can be both for app update and for firmare update, but you can also use trezor with thirds party wallets.

Also if you wait 10 or 20 days to update. You could add a passphrase to the trezor while you wait.
Just be sure to not lose it.

Is there a reason why you are worrying about the 2.12.4 firmware release but you weren't worried about version 2.12.0 or older versions before that? The only way for you to know if any codebase is safe is if you are a developer yourself or you have existing coding knowledge to go through the code and try to understand what it's doing and how. I doubt you will find someone like that here. There are probably people who do check certain parts of the code but not all of it especially if we are talking about tens and hundreds of thousands of lines of code. I think what you should avoid are the phishing messages or going to the wrong site for the firmware update. You are safe as long as the update is done through the official website or through the right GitHub link.
Trezor users don't need to visit a website to download the official firmware. After they install Trezor Suite, they can choose between the Universal and Bitcoin-only firmware from within that software. There will be in-app notifications whenever there is a new update to your firmware but also to Trezor Suite.

That is true. Lucius quoted me and posted about it at the time and I know he was right. That has been the reason I did not bother to post anything again on this thread unless it is necessary. I was reading what people are posting on this thread, but I did not reply to it because I see it not necessary if the posts is right.

I got question - Can anyone hack your computer and change the "update" notification in Trezor Suite, so when you click it, it downloads some kind of malware on your Trezor or I'm stupid? Sorry, maybe stupid question No, the firmware has to be digitally signed with keys that only Trezor has. They might be able to have your computer do things but there is no way for them to put a custom firmware on your Trezor. It will fail and give a very obvious error. -Dave

I got question - Can anyone hack your computer and change the "update" notification in Trezor Suite, so when you click it, it downloads some kind of malware on your Trezor or I'm stupid? Sorry, maybe stupid question It's possible to install custom firmware on a Trezor device but you would have to enable that feature in the settings and probably turn off the automatic checks that Trezor performs to check the genuinity. A custom firmware and therefore a malicious firmware is theoretically possible. Regarding hacking a single computer to trick that person into downloading a malicious firmware. It's not something I would worry about. Like I said, you would have to enable custom firmware in the settings and recode the software to display such a warning. What scammers usually want is for you to download a fake version of Trezor Suite and couple that with a malicious piece of firmware. In theory (again), Trezor could be hacked to display a malicious firmware update through Trezor Suite or they could turn malicious themselves and create such firmware.

Trezor has a built-in bootloader that verifies the cryptographic signature of any incoming firmware. If the firmware has been tampered with, the device will display an error message and automatically wipe its storage, ensuring your funds remain safe. Hackers often resort to messages claiming, Your coins are not safe; please enter your seed phrase to secure them."

Hello, every Trezor update is safe.
If you feel not safe, just drop down code on this forum, we will check.
Who will check? Who on this forum checks and goes through Trezor's codebase in your opinion and posts the results of their investigations? Trezor operates with an open-source license. There is no need to paste the code on Bitcointalk for verification. Everything is public and available on their GitHub repository. Those who know how to and have the time for lengthy research can check anything they want on GitHub.
