As of 26 August, about 15 NYSC members were abducted on their way back from orientation camp.

For those not familiar with the term NYSC, it is a Nigerian government program established in 1973 to involve graduates from Nigerian institutions in serving the country through unity and national service. The NYSC is now compulsory for job hunting. Which is one main reason why most graduates choose to come for the mandatory 3 weeks oreintation camp.

In a country where you cannot secure the lives of those involved in national service, why drag them out of their house? The roads are not safe, there is insecurity everywhere in the cities, why take people's children out of their house only for them to later be in the bush begging for ransom to be released?
About three years ago i know of a friend that was posted in the northern part of Nigeria for his NYSC program but he declined it that he can't risk his life because he want to serve his country at the end you can't even use the certificate to secure a job for your self.

Nigeria is not a safe place now to travelling here and there, there has been several news of abduction of passengers travelling even before corp member has also been abducted or kidnap on there way coming back from there orientation camp, the rate of insecurity in Nigeria is still very high and the government is doing nothing about it because they are sponsors of all these evil act happening across our dear country.

My brother if now na self me for no even go risk my precious life say i dey do NYSC who NYSC even help.
Many people have declined going to NYSC or extended it for years or batches while trying to avoid a given region of the country due to insecurity. The NYSC body has also made it as an obligation to relocate every corp member that feels unsafe in some security threatened regions of the country. For example, anyone posted to the Borno or Zamfara, Sokoto or some of those high risk areas has always received their relocation before the end of orientation campaign. But this is not a lasting solution, it will be better to allow everyone to serve in his region and when a person is serving far away from his region, there should be provision for flight especially at the end of their camping when the whole world is aware that corpers are going to be on the road and these insurgents prepare ahead because they also understand that Corp members are national treasure and abducting them will bring better attention from the media and government.

This is all politics and the government should understand that there are many enemies to the government and minimise their losses by sending these youths to the region closest to them where they also understand their traditions and language.

Bandits doesn't have a description of people that they kidnapped, even a palm wine tapper was kidnap on his way home. I think that incident happens in the south west,a poor palm wine tapper for that matter, funny enough his kidnapers were demanding for a hundred million naira from his family. If the palm wine tapper has such amount of money, will he still be tapping palm wine in the forest? Luckily for the poor man,he was rescued by vigilantes that were on a patrol in the forest.
My point is if a palm wine tapper, farmers, pupils can be kidnapped by bandits, how much more youth corpers? The prayer you should be praying everyday is let Nigeria don't happen to you.
In a short statement i want to break it down to you, description is what helps the bandits to get their target in such tasks or missions it very important to them to work on description, and based on the specifics of the intel and target, not just random movement…

Now I want you to understand that these guys are well trained guys who do not just go into the bushes or the community to kidnap this person…for example, how do they know that this red car is coming with a lot of money in it., this should tell you that they get info on movements too, which sometimes from informants in communities, along routes, or people who know people's schedules, in fact now they have what we call kidnapping survivors

Yeah the importance at which employment has put into NYSC certification is just the problem if not I'm sure that nobody would have want to serve even if they pay some money, the road are very risky to journey with car because anything is possible to happen. In Nigeria NYSC is treated as a half military service because they are part of government so actually it wouldn't have cost the federal government much money to provide a lot of Costa bus plus security vehicles that would be escorting every batches round the country to their various orientation camp so that their lives wouldn't be threatened on the road.

A very Good news everyone!!! The 21 Kidnapped victims of this abduction have been successful rescued by the Nigerian Army in collaboration with the Police, DSS and local Vigilantes today.

I saw this News from one of the communities helping with the fundraiser for the ransom of one of the victims, the Troops got a credible intelligence and they coordinated a search of the nearby forest and they were able to successfully locate and rescue the victims but one of the victim sustained a gunshot wound and he has been taken to a hospital for treatment.

It’s actually rare to see a fast rescue operation like this in Nigerian and I’m glad the Troop were able to successfully rescue them.

Almost everyday, we must get reports of abduction and other security issues in this country, yet, the continue to do absolutely nothing about it. Instead, they're more invested in campaigning for a re-election come 2027.

The country is so unsafe that citizens now live by fear. Few days ago, a young university student was shot by a trigger-happy police even when he wasn't found with any unlawful exhibit. Nobody knows who's next. We as a people must do everything possible to vote out the current administration come next year.
