Why are matches suspended in sports betting?

It is actually something I have seen myself during this lastest Football world cup. During the final match between Argentina and Spain, there were occasions in which odds were suspended.

It was mostly due to recalculating those odds because something significant had just happened during the match.
It is quite normal, and it is supposed to be a mechanism which allows the bookie to offer fair odds and discourage people from taking advantage of the market itself.

It is something which happens pretty much in all important football matches, and I assume it also happens in all important cricket matches.

That's a live market, and these line suspensions happen because their system can malfunction in the middle of the match.

If the cricket match is being played as usual, then there could be score changes and it's the bookies' way of stopping gamblers from betting ahead. You can also see these suspensions happen on football matches whenever a team scores a goal.

They're only taking precautionary measures so they don't bleed much from these small mistakes.

Maybe it looks like a noob question, but I am looking for the answer.

It's mostly because of the weather and it affect games that are played outdoor. The question is what going to happen in your bet? For example, you bet on who's team are going to scored the first match. So if a team already scored and then the match is postponed, then your bet is a lost already.

But if your bet is like ML or handicap, once the game resume then your bet is on.

However, there could be some casinos that the moment that the game is cancelled or suspended, your bet is automatically voided.
