The question I have about is how many people you know are running failed businesses because they copied another person? Because I've seen people doing things that others are doing and they are progressing pretty well.

Some people who copied others even managed to outpace the ones they copied, it was like how Mr Biggs was reigning in my city for few years and someone new just come around and claimed all Mr Biggs customers.

Cheaper rate and more tastier foods, then people are left with no choice, it's not all those who copied others that will fail at it, some are just going to be better at what they do.

Starting a similar business with others is not a wrong move. There are business clusters in some areas that offer the same goods and services. What OP wants us to know is that offering something different is essential to business success. You can offer similar goods but in new or improved ways.

The reason why other fast food companies took Mr Biggs' market share is because the offered something better than Mr Biggs. Maybe their food was good, and the service was faster and better. Just offer something better and cheaper, and you would get customers regardless of how tight the competition is.

It's a reality that when a new business comes onto the market, it attracts more customers at the beginning, and the owners think they will make a profit. Have you ever experienced this type of new business in the form of a café or restaurant? So, here, the noticeable thing is that at the start, every individual wants to know your product quality and your way of doing business and also, if you have a proper business strategy and planning, then you will have the business for the long term. Every business has different challenges and benefits.

If you start a business just by following others without any proper research, then the chances of your failure automatically increase. Because, with proper research, we gain experience and, with experience, we should be able to detect customers' demand, and then we develop our business according to the required conditions. Along with business, we are a part of the competition, so owners first focus on their business development and their second focus is on maintaining their business within the competition. Positively, competition is a good thing for owners because it pushes the business to get updated and developed. So, with time, the business grows and generates a huge income.
I think if any business can gain traction at the initial stage, the same business can continue with the momentum and instead, do much better in future. Yes, there would still be a few failures who would not be able to sustain business even after getting initial clients. For such business owners, there is nothing much that we can do because they already failed their learning and maybe, they will have to start from square one to actually learn how to operate a business.

For majority of others, they should be able to retain the customers no matter what. Customer retention is what plays an important role here. You can think new customers can give you business but your business would only scale if existing customers stick with you.

Not everyone is as innovative, and I am talking about the majority of businesses while you are giving me examples of businesses that were not started on unique ideas as a foundation. Sure, the foundation is important and there needs to be change otherwise everything would stay the same and there would be nothing new and innovative, but for most businesses it is not about being innovative and new, most businesses are just trying to earn money- not become what investors would consider unicorns.
Yes, I understood your point, and that mine was a bit focused on something else.

It is true that there is a difference here. Everybody is mostly doing the same thing, they are trying to earn money. I was more shocked to see when I saw a hotel and they did not allow their customers to create a video of them. They said we want simplicity, we love what and where we are doing, we don't want to be famous or something. I was like, what are you saying, how can a business say something like this?

Unique and new ideas are totally a different discussion, and I know my examples were not, but at the end, how many unique businesses can there be? Same logic, different approach, as what entrepreneurs say.
