Bitcoin Is 17 years Old. What surprises you most?

In a long journey of 17 years, Bitcoin has come forward over various obstacles. In this case, the government's hostile attitude towards Bitcoin, negative comments from various big celebrities, severe criticism of banning it from time to time in various countries, various exchanges closing their activities, etc. All these activities have stopped the speed of Bitcoin, yet Bitcoin is moving towards success at its own pace. What I like most is that despite so many obstacles, Bitcoin is now being considered as a strategic reserve in various countries, companies are giving priority to Bitcoin as their company's reserve. In short, it has not been possible to stop Bitcoin even after trying to stop it, rather it is a race for success ahead and this is the reason I like it the most.

2010... I don't exist, still don't know what bitcoin is, but you can see some news first bitcoin is taken for granted, many investors buy bitcoin just leave it, until in the end they look for the lost key.
Bitcoin is getting older the more expensive it is, the older it gets adopted by the big institutions, the longer the state will regulate its finances.

When I entered bitcoin, I do not have that much expectations. I just knew that if bitcoin price can grow overtime, then regular buying of bitcoin will not be wasted in the long run. That's just my thought about bitcoin. So everything that is happening today comes a big surprise for me.

And what makes it highly surprising for me is that after all the attacks that the government and anti-bitcoin did, and claimed that bitcoin is already dead a lot of times, but look at bitcoin now, even getting more valuable and sustainable. Lucky are those who believe in bitcoin without doubt, sorry for those who ignore bitcoin because they think bitcoin is just another get-rich-quick scheme.

When bitcoin reached $100k, that was already a big surprise for me, although a lot of predictions arise that bitcoin will even pass that price. But because I entered bitcoin below $20k, seeing bitcoin reaching $100k is such a big achievement.

But what surprised me the most is the fact that the government is now getting along with bitcoin, and centralized banks are now adopting bitcoin transactions. That made me realized that if bitcoin and the government will work hand on hand, people will receive the best services ever. But I don't think bitcoiners will be really happy seeing bitcoin finally accepted by the government.

The fact that bitcoin has reached this far, from October 2008 where Satoshi introduced bitcoin, until 2026 where majority cannot resist the high potentials of bitcoin as a digital asset and as a digital currency.

It’s all about Bitcoin, really. I’m quite intrigued and often surprised by the people involved. Especially the growing number of Bitcoin hodlers. What would you have found hardest to believe back then?

Although, I didn't know about Bitcoin not until around 2018, but I'm really not surprised about Bitcoin's progress that much, I feel it is progressing smoothly as anticipated. I remember some years back when we do say, "less than 1% of the world's population has adopted Bitcoin and the price is like this, imagine what the price will look like when more than 1% adopts it". We are in that time right now, and we saw the price soaring high up to 100k+. And we are still anticipating more because we are not done adopting Bitcoin. When the bull market fully resumes, I'm certain more adoption will troop in, and the price will soar more.

Bitcoin came and defiled whatever law that states that money must be controlled by a central authority.

I'm not surprised with Bitcoin that is framed as a bad thing, but it still can survives and keeps rising till now. What I am more surprised about is the term "never sell your BTC" used by many people, including on this forum, while they also rarely or never use their BTC. These people, for me, are self proclaimed BTC number #1 supporters, but in fact, they transact more in stablecoins and use chains that offer lower fees and faster speed. Sorry guys, a bit emotional when typing this

Price and adoption for sure. But some others, maybe it's hard to believe how the ideology and movement have shifted. BTC was made to fight against the banks, fiat, and an unfair financial system, but now it's more like friends with them.

There are many reasons to be surprised, the most surprising thing I am is that it has gone from zero value to trillion dollar wealth.

I think in 2010 no one believed that 1 BTC would be $100k+, it was unbelievable in the past. Also some did not believe that Bitcoin would survive this long but Bitcoin has survived for almost 18 years. Currently many of us believe that 1 BTC price will be 1 million dollars in the future, but no one could have imagined this in the past.
Seeing posts like this makes me remember the past and regret if I could have bought 1 BTC and hodl it.

Most people that heard about Bitcoin in 2010 but did not care to buy some as at then, will definitely be surprised about the success of Bitcoin today, while some people that also said Bitcoin was going to die will be surprised because they would never have imagined that after the dip which convinced them that Bitcoin will crash, it survived and even gave us new all time highs. I realized that one of my relations had Bitcoin as at 2017 but he sold it even before 2020 and he still regrets selling it before now because the big growth of Bitcoin from then till now shocked him. I didn't know about Bitcoin in 2010 but from when I know Bitcoin till today, the price has done absolutely so well.

What would you have found hardest to believe back then?

Unfortunately,I wasn’t into the crypto space precisely bitcoin back then,so I literally don’t have full knowledge about the challenges it faced when it came out newly or during it’s early stage of adoption.Though I do read articles about bitcoin in the past and I’m also made to understand that bitcoin went through thick and thin during it’s early stage of adoption but nevertheless it came out strong because of the power of decentralization.If bitcoin isn’t a decentralized digital currency the government and it’s critics would have devised an alternative to put an end to it but unfortunately it isn’t possible as they expected.Even when I joined the crypto space in 2024 I witnessed a few oppositions from the government against bitcoin and it’s enthusiasts but currently in my country that phase has subsided.

Bitcoin has surprised me personally in so many aspect, initially when Bitcoin came onboard as at 2009, the price of Bitcoin was in penny, but Bitcoin grew very fast with very high volatility which was one of the reasons that made some persons not to even invest in Bitcoin. But surprisingly Bitcoin has grown penny cryptocurrency to an asset that is now worth thousands of dollars surpassing some renown digital asset like gold in term of return of investment. Today, Bitcoin has grown explosively in price, and increasing in adoption, and this achievement is something that many people did not believe in the past, and personally it is something very surprising . With this Bitcoin achievement within this period of time, their is every evidence that Bitcoin is still poised for more growth, and remains an asset of public interest.

What would you have found hardest to believe back then?

For someone from 2010, every single thing will be surprising, starting from its survival, current price and all-time high, institutional adoption and overall, adoption, the level of trust people have in Bitcoin, and every other thing that people back then couldn't even imagine. Someone from back then would also regret why they didn't buy a few thousand bitcoins at that time and kept holding them until now because that would have changed their life forever based on how much Bitcoin has grown in all these years value-wise. Of course, this isn't for those who actually did this and bought and kept some bitcoins from the early days, but most people didn't.

For me personally, I think the most surprising part for me was the institutional adoption, because I literally didn't expect it to happen this quickly. I used to think that it is going to take a very long time for institutions to step in and start buying and adopting Bitcoin, but very early, firms and institutions started working on getting their ETFs started, and that onboarded a large number of people from the corporate industry who might have been hesitant to invest in Bitcoin before that, but once they saw that even institutions are now getting involved, their trust increased as well.

Almost everything about Bitcoin is surprising but I think the longevity is the most impressive part.

Yeah, the longevity is probably the biggest surprise. What also gets me is how Bitcoin keeps finding new ways to be useful beyond just holding it. 17 years in and we’re still seeing major institutions get involved. Makes you wonder how many more will come in over the next 17 years.

Adoption and Pricing has been one of my biggest surprises through the journey of Bitcoin. At the time when Bitcoin was first introduced to the Public, only a few would believe the price Value by this time would be at this point it is now or the Adoption would have been this wide, because little understood the vision and saw the possibilities around it, while a vast majority taught of it as one which may not have lasted this long before it will be forgotten or maybe come to an end, but so far, Bitcoin has proven beyond reasonable doubt that it can still last for some years ahead and even more and it will likely gain more adoption and the value will even scale up above what it currently is. The price and the adoption will always be a great point of surprise to me because i understand a lot of persons possibly didn't see this coming and may as well not even see the after now future that will be coming.

Bitcoin is considered a valuable asset along with gold. Talking about the current generation, they are giving more priority to Bitcoin than gold. What surprised me the most about Bitcoin is its long-term compound growth. Although it has major ups and downs, even after major price drops, it bounces back and gains new value and making Bitcoin valuable. Gold is an established asset, but Bitcoin is very new in comparison, but it has surpassed gold in terms of annual growth. Bitcoin's compound annual growth rate is much higher than gold.
