Unfortunately not many people out there are as smart and intelligent as many of us in this forum. That’s why there will always be victims of scams. Not many people are aware that they don’t need to connect their wallet in a platform they trusted after investing their heard earned money. Sometimes when bad things want to happen, you might even forget all the safety measures you know.

If a website promises easy profits, shows you profits that you cannot independently verify, pressures you to deposit more money, or suddenly requires you to connect your personal wallet before you can withdraw, those should be serious warning signs. Personally, I don't think it is smart to connect any wallet or my main wallet containing significant funds to a website simply because the website asks me to.
This is where people allow greed to supersede their sense of reasoning, the said companies should be verified, including their licenses to be able to provide such offers. Before you come down to verifying the possibility of their claims you should verify their originality of their existence. The red flags are always obvious from the onset and that's why I don't pity people who lost their assets out of greed. People are so greedy they're quick to think about profits without thinking as well about what they can stand to loose in the process. Regardless of verification, it is not a good security practice to connect our wallet to a third-party site. A verified third party can also be targeted and hijacked by scammers. Perhaps you really don't know what it means to connect to a third-party site. It means the current platform which you are operating on at the moment has to grant access to a third party. By doing so, malware may take over. Abstinence is the best solution. Newbies need to learn by avoiding linking a site to a third-party site, or they will learn the hard way.

This is exactly why I keep wondering, Why connect your wallet to a third party website in the first place? I understand that connecting a wallet is necessary for many legitimate Web3 applications. But the problem is that many users don't actually understand what they are signing when they connect or approve a transaction. They simply see something like Connect Wallet or "Approve and click it because they believe the website needs it to continue. The majority don't even take the time to read or understand what they are approving. I visited the site provided by the OP, but I didn't find a detailed explanation of the method the scammer used. Maybe, the scammer took advantage of the victim's negligence, specifically; not knowing exactly what they were "signing" for their wallet, and I think this is closely related to the concept of "Blind Signing". For further information, you can check out about it, here: ➥ Source : coinbureau.com - Blind Signing➥ Source : indodax.com - Blind Signing: A Crypto Danger Often Overlooked by New Users ( Use translation from "Indonesia" to "English" to read it easily ) Scammers constantly exploit various loopholes to carry out their schemes, and they rely heavily on your negligence. Therefore, do not be easily swayed by offers that seem "Too Good to be True", or by anything that sparks intense interest. In most cases, scammers lure potential victims with highly compelling propositions designed to prompt immediate action oftenly; before you have a chance to think twice. Therefore, stay skeptical of the information you receive; do not simply take things at face value without verifying their authenticity, as doing so is extremely dangerous.

There are many cases where people’s hardware wallets were drained, yet some people are still not taking necessary precautions. There are people who still click on unknown links without verifying them, and those who still connect their wallets to third party sites without checking them.
Even if you want to connect your wallet to a third party website must it be the one you are holding your cryptocurrencies? Most users in the crypto space perish because of ignorance, they feel what happened to those who lost their crypto investment to scammers and hackers can’t happen to them, well they should keep deceiving themselves until the day they lose their own funds too.

You are making a lot of sense here I think I can really relate to that this back then when I was still a newbie which I had no understanding about scammers and a lot more, in addition to what you have said the forum has help many of us to have an opportunity to talk about topics like seed phrases, fake dApps, wallet approvals, phishing links every day so it just like a music playlist to us now, so In the real world 80% of people would just hear the word crypto and all that cross there mind is making money faster and understand some little basics and that all they need to know, after few step they get scammed And then know the basics. Two thing that might make a smart person fall is the trust of anyhow platforms, and Panic Greed mode, this character are what lead to scam for everyone….

Email or no email, people must secure their devices and wallets by themselves because emails can be hacked if they have bad email passwords. Devices can be compromised if they have bad security habit and practice on their devices offline and online. Wallets can be hacked if they use very weak passwords, and wallets can be lost if they store their wallet backups unsafely. For tasks like airdrops, people must create and use extra wallets for airdrop tasks only and never store their big funds in wallets used for airdrops. If anything happens, they will only lose nearly empty wallets with very small funds inside while main funds are already stored safely in main wallets.

For months now, we have seen so many things happening in the crypto space. Hardware wallets have been targeted, vulnerabilities have been discovered in different wallet products, and new types of scams continue to appear. All of this naturally makes people question how safe their crypto really is when they plan to hold it for the long term..While we are still trying to understand the risks that come with some crypto storage, scammers and hackers are also constantly looking for new ways to reach their victims. Most of us have probably heard about wallet drainers, but I believe many people still don't fully understand how dangerous they can be. A wallet drainer is basically malicious software or a malicious smart contract interaction designed to trick users into giving a website permission to move assets from their wallets. A recent case in Ukraine is a good example of how this works. According to Ukrainian authorities, a network of scammers created fake cryptocurrency investment platforms and promoted them to people in more than 20 countries. They used social engineering to convince potential victims that they were dealing with legitimate crypto investment services. The fake platforms would then display what appeared to be growing investment balances, giving victims the impression that their money was making profits.
The interesting part came when victims wanted to withdraw their supposed profits. Instead of simply receiving their money, they were instructed to connect their personal crypto wallets to the fake platform. They were then asked to approve what appeared to be a small or simple transaction. That was where the real trap was.
The website reportedly contained a hidden wallet drainer. Once the victim approved the malicious transaction, the attackers could move crypto assets from the victim's wallet to addresses controlled by them. The victims were then essentially left with an empty wallet while the fake investment platform became inaccessible.
Authorities say they have identified 62 victims so far, with victims in countries including Germany, Poland, France, the UK, Canada and Israel. They also said the operation could generate up to $1 million in monthly turnover during its peak period. The investigation is still ongoing.
Source link: https://www.coindesk.com/business/2026/09/06/ukrainian-police-took-down-a-crypto-scam-that-stole-up-to-usd1-million-a-monthThis is exactly why I keep wondering, Why connect your wallet to a third party website in the first place? I understand that connecting a wallet is necessary for many legitimate Web3 applications. But the problem is that many users don't actually understand what they are signing when they connect or approve a transaction. They simply see something like Connect Wallet or "Approve and click it because they believe the website needs it to continue. The majority don't even take the time to read or understand what they are approving. I don't think people should remain uneducated about the different methods scammers use. The crypto industry has been around long enough for us to understand that scammers will always find new ways to make their schemes look legitimate. If you absolutely need to interact with an unfamiliar application, it is better to use a separate wallet containing only the amount you can afford to risk. That way, even if something goes wrong, you are not putting your entire crypto holdings at risk. Most importantly, never assume that a website is safe simply because it looks professional. A good looking interface can be created by anyone, and with AI making it easier than ever to create convincing websites, fake platforms can look even more legitimate than they used to. Crypto gives us a lot of control over our money, but that control also comes with responsibility. There is no way to reverse a transaction after we have willingly signed a malicious transaction. At the end of the day, protecting your crypto is not only about having a good wallet. It is also about understanding what you are doing, where you are connecting your wallet, and what permissions you are giving to third party applications.. for me honestly I don't advice connect your wallet at all, it's one good way to stay safe and avoid many drama. This is really helpful information for someone like me who is still learning about crypto security I honestly didn’t realize that simply connecting a wallet and approving a transaction could give a malicious website the ability to move my assets. It makes me understand why people always warn against connecting their main wallet to unfamiliar platforms. One question i want to ask is: how can we check what permissions or approvals a website is requesting before we sign a transaction? And if we accidentally approve something malicious is there a way to revoke that permission before the funds are stolen?

Wait a minute, I thought the war in Ukraine is still at larger scale, who is doing all the tracking? How are the police active in a warring country? Or it's something that doesn't affect some part of Ukraine? There are many cases where people’s hardware wallets were drained, yet some people are still not taking necessary precautions. There are people who still click on unknown links without verifying them, and those who still connect their wallets to third party sites without checking them.

Yesterday I saw some people talking about some draining that's going on with over 400k of ETH already stolen and the guy said none of his tokens were touched, he claimed he is using a hardware wallet but yet the drain still happened. I feel like this person must have connected his device to a Dex or uniswap style platforms and failed to disconnect, because I can't figure out any other possible ways, revoking any type of wallet addresses is a must after use.

Yes it's indeed scary seeing people repeatedly getting themselves involved in such activities, although I don't need to blame them because lack of knowledge in anything we do at times can make one prefer an option that may look profitable but very dangerous to life. Am impressed with how open and loud you are on this because if this information is not transferred to naive investors, they will continuously keep failing victim of such scams without knowing its not a preferred operational system for any willing to become successful through crypto investment. But if i may ask, why do people choose getting themselves involved in risky activities when it is conspicuously stated that our crypto informations should be handled with caution and not exposed to any platform.

If that's the case (and I agree with you by the way), why not lock this topic, or simply move the first post in that pinned thread of yours?
Since in this case I was curious why it wasn't and since people started talking, I'll let the discussion continue. I'll probably lock it later this week (unless the quality drops too much).

Connecting of wallet is one problem, but for someone who earn from what they consider an investment, why connect your wallet which has funds in it? I have dealt with a lot of websites which require me to connect my wallet to check eligibility or claim something. I create a new wallet in almost all of such practices. This way, I don't expose my existing wallet, which might have a balance on it to them, which is exactly what I expect from both airdrop claimers and whatever activity the person wants to do that requires wallet connection.

Connecting of wallets to third parties has known to be an easy way to give scammers the privilege to hack your account with flexible accessibility to your privacy while they're operating at their end. Ignorant has also made many crypto owner's lost their funds by paying attentions on anonymous sites that hasn't been verified to be legitimate before they can trust it. Some user's also feel very lazy to how to operate their crypto wallets instead, they relies on sharing their privacy with third parties to help them execute their transactions. Perhaps connecting of wallets and signing transaction approval to a third party is a vulnerable event for a genuine user to fall victim to evil because, you single handedly sell out your privacy.

Unfortunately we all can't catch up with scammers, they are always a step ahead and this is why today some hacks are still taking place even on very secured platforms online.
Scammers will always come up with a new way to steal, and trust me people aren't ready enough to always escape from scammers trap, even if you do everything right something can still happen.
It's a shame that evil ways are paying more than good ways too and some of these scammers are victim to such world, we see them as villains only after they take a bad path, many of them turned this way because the world won't listen to them.
My own strategy to not get caught in a scam or become their victim is to avoid putting all my eggs in one basket, if that one basket get compromised it's all over for me.

Usually, users are convinced that they are using a safe website, and will find it lazy to create a new wallet jist to connect to a platform they trust. Remember that you trusted a platform to invest in, why would you doubt its credibility, especially if the amount in the wallet is less than the invested amount.
We understand that some trading platforms do stuff like that. So the preventive measure is to create a new address separate from your main balance. This is for those of us who understand, but most people don’t do this and end up regretting it. Anything related to personal wallets shouldn’t be easily trusted on every site. If it can be avoided, just avoid it. There are still many other platforms that are more trusted and credible. Still, in the end, we all need to take precautions beforehand, which is using a new address when connecting with third parties. Even after 10 years of knowing crypto, I've never connected my personal wallet with a third party.

The victim made two mistake first one is they blindly trust the platform and connect their main wallet that hold most of their fund. They should use a new wallet and loaded that address a small fee so that after the token or coins withdrawal they can be transfer to original wallet..
Second one is they didn't verify the sign massage. Most of the wallet gives warning when user try to give permission to other platform. And they ignore it, well maybe giving permission become common for them because they connect the same way and the same warning popups shows up every time but nothing happens.

I think this particular scam has not entirely to do with scammers growing ability, yes scammer will continue to try and improve on getting victims but this connecting of wallet to DApps shouldn’t be a new discussion at least not to someone who isn’t a newbie. The fact is already stated that for large amount of crypto holdings it is not even about using another wallet but entirely abandoning the use of hot storage system. Go for a cold storage either with building one on an airgapped device or simply buying an hardware wallet if you cannot set that up. As for DApps it’s simply all about creating burner wallet for it and not leaving any amount you cannot afford to lose on it
