While buying BTC can make us rich or even richer, it's true that many people have lost their fortunes as a result of buying BTC. This is certainly due to poor calculation and the inability to hold BTC long-term. If we could hold BTC long-term, no one has lost anything to date.

It's also a shame for people who were originally rich to become poor, or for people who sought profit from BTC but ended up losing money because they bought BTC, even though it's actually easy to make a profit from BTC, as the most important thing is to hold BTC long-term. But I'm curious to know if any of you have lost money because of buying BTC?

I think this statement need correction because I don't think there is anyone that must have invested in Bitcoin in the last year and has not sold and become poor. The essence of any investment is to make profit right and you bought to hold and not to sell. If you guy and you sold at loss, it's your responsibility and not that of Bitcoin. You can't buy something and sell at loss and claim that you were made a loss because you couldn't hold the investment.

There is a reason why people are called diamond hand. This people are here for long term and they don't get intimidated by what people think, they buy and hold and leave the rest for the market to decide. There are people that bought Bitcoin in the last 10 years and even now that the price is looking juicy, they have not sold a single Bitcoin. This is why many are made riches and the people that can't hold are poorer.

I do agree with this part of your comment where you said patience can make a big difference, but I don't think it's right to say by holding Bitcoin for long term will automatically means that investors will not lose money. The fact still remains that the price of Bitcoin can drop heavily, and some investors might end up selling their Bitcoin because they need money. But I believe the bigger problem is when an investor actually buys Bitcoin with money he or she cannot afford to leave for long term.

When an individual end up investing into Bitcoin with money they really need for necessary expenses like rent, food or emergencies, every short term price movement can force them to sell at a loss.  So I think it's not just about holding your Bitcoin for long term, but also about knowing your financial capacity before investing.

The answer isn't simply Bitcoin's price.

It's what people do before, during and after their wealth changes.

The poor person who patiently accumulates may benefit from long term appreciation.
But the wealthy person who becomes overconfident, borrows against their holdings, uses leverage or refuses to take risk seriously can lose wealth just as quickly. This we see even in our everyday lives.

Building wealth and preserving wealth are two different games.

Bitcoin can change your financial position. But it cannot change your financial discipline for you.

Bitcoin can change people’s lives, but saying that can make some people misunderstand Bitcoin as a way of making quick money. I have never seen where an experienced person advise anyone to invest in Bitcoin only because it could change their lives. Bitcoin investment can change their life but not the way people’s think. Those who have been holding for a long time, has their life change or not because the price is not where they bought it.

The biggest mistake an investor can make is borrowing money to invest. Bitcoin isn’t going anywhere, whether you have the money to take the market opportunity or not, make sure it is not someone else money you are investing with. Bitcoin investment may be for everyone, but you need to have what it takes to invest. Don’t reduce your daily meal budget just because you want to compared yourself with others who are more financially stable than you.

Bitcoin has worked in a positive way over time for people who have become rich but not knowledgeable by just holding Bitcoin, but the price increase has worked in a positive way. Bitcoin is not a guarantee of wealth. A person can start with a small amount with very little knowledge and if he can maintain consistency, without panic selling, he can be in a better position than a trader with strong cashflow despite his low income and knowledge.

And the leverage and panic selling that you mentioned can also be considered a big reason as to whether a person can actually profit from Bitcoin or not. At the same time, if two people start investing, but one person is occasionally selling some part of his Bitcoin holding or panic selling occasionally when he sees the price suddenly falling, and then tries to buy Bitcoin again through price prediction. But the other person does not do any such unusual activity he is continuously accumulating Bitcoin with a long term mindset.

So naturally, a person who is not panic selling and not making short term price predictions while accumulating Bitcoin, will be in a good position. Bitcoin investment is a long term process, where you have to keep yourself financially capable and mentally calm.

That's probably the first time I am hearing that bitcoin can make a rich person poor.
If you are borrowing money and using high leverage to trade bitcoin futures or options and losing money in it then its completely your fault.
Bitcoin has nothing to do with it. It could have happened trading any other asset too.
Bitcoin can only make a person have more wealth than he had previously because the price only appreciates in the long term and not the other way around.

I saw how Nike shares has fallen and after 10 years of waiting to see their investment go higher, it's now sitting at price lower than the price many people bought years ago, this is an example of buying and holding for long time doesn't guarantee any profit but let's be truthful, Bitcoin has beaten everyone expectations. If the way Nike fall in price that Bitcoin did like that, I will probably have to sell my properties and go all in because I'm confident it will go all way up.

People need to make a choice of the kind of investment they make, Bitcoin in years from now can't be the same way it's today but make sure you low your expectations. Don't invest because you want to go out of poverty, it may work but it's better you lower it just for own good.

One of the ways that Bitcoin can take a person from rich to poor is through panic selling, this is by far the most common reason why a lot of people end up losing in the long run. Looking at what actually triggers panic selling is lack of risk management and by that I mean investing an amount of money that is within your means or capacity to lose and not just that alone but also taking calculated risks. Because they are too scared to lose a certain amount of money during the dip they sell their coins out of fear which leads to losses. Bitcoin can only take you from poor to rich if only you can be consistent and patient, it takes a lot to achieve this but it's not impossible.

You see each and everyone or investors knows how they thought towards Bitcoin investment and how they use it matters alots. So my own mindset may be different from your own, same goes to the other popele, there are people that are just after the market movements which makes some of them lose due to price swing. You can actually become rich when you knew the values of the bitcoin, because it's an assets you hold for a long time period, controlling it without anyone's permission any time you want to acesss your funds, at the same time some people are only holding bitcoin for just short term and sell when the market price favour them. Nevertheless you can be poor when you don't properly or know how it works, and can also rich when you endure and holding bitcoin for long-term growths.but there's no certainty that Bitcoin would make you rich.
