That's not a new concept, but sadly (and as far as I know) those never took off? The Sandbox, Decentraland, and many gaming projects ended up dying as everything else in crypto that's backed by nothing but hype.

IMO, the only thing that would make this take off is big existing studios building AAA games with those technologies. Until then, I don't see it happening.

Stop to spread lies. Gaming Token will never ever have great future. Gaming token only going up in the past due to the metaverse hype, but it's now a useless altcoin. Look at the sandbox token price, which is always going down, and it never goes up. It's all due to the unsustainable gameconomic offered by all of crypto gaming.

It's only selling the hype and no more. Beside that you can also see Sandbox's NFT asset, which has been plunging so hard. When you bought a sandbox land around 3/4 eth at 2022($7500 - $10000 current rate), and it's only worth 0.025($67) eth right now.

You're burning your money instead of printing more. Buying crypto gaming item is one of stupidest thing you can do. We have plenties of example about how gaming token and its assets always burned to the hell.

I agree. Gaming and crypto could have a strong future together, especially if coins provide real utility through in-game purchases and rewards. The key will be making the system useful and easy for players to adopt.

It can only work if it's a popular game people truly enjoy playing for entertainment, so there can be a healthy balanced ecosystem between people playing to earn and people playing competitively for ranks, status and achievements.

Moreover, developers have to make sure the game isn't infested by bots which will inevitably ruin the game after a while.

The closest to this concept this industry has reached was with MIR4, but unfortunatelly developers weren't interested in making it work in a sustainable way. So they just keep launching new games with the same mechanisms to milk money from players who invest hard in the game to become the best players, while bots kill the economy until it's not worthy anymore.

Are you planning on developing such game platforms that has such operation or you are suggesting/asking if there is anyone in the crypto industry?

Of course, there are many platforms that solves the problem of using games and coins, many casinos are implementing that and so metaverse uses the same ideology too.

You should try and experience it, since that's what you desire.

You missed the RONIN token and their blockchain. At the peak of the gaming season, it used to be worth $4B+ in FDV, and right now, it's at $60m lol

There was a time I believed that gaming tokens would do very well in crypto, but as of right now, it's safe to say all of the top gaming projects from the class of 2021 are all dead. They might see a bit of upward price action, but that's about it. Just like NFTs, I feel like the gaming concept is dead unless they come up with something innovative other than what we have seen in the past.

A lot of projects have tried this, going as far as creating the item as NFT and listing it on public market like OpenSea or MagicEden, all of them failed because the game which is the thing that supposedly the core of the project isn't interesting enough, therefore it failed to create demand.

Just look at several projects that was reaching billions back when metaverse hype was big, now only fraction of it left and the in game item has become very cheap, losing its prices. Apparently the one that still thriving until this day is steam's game skin 3rd party market that accepts crypto, they're still lively even to this day because they are trading skins from genuinely interesting game like cs2 or DotA.

Play to earn has been around in crypto for years, and I was thinking it was going to be the next big thing in crypto because of the love people have for gaming and they will gladly use crypto to buy in game items and also earn money while playing games but the trend didn't last long and it faded away. I was playing projectseed gambling back then and I also earned some of their tokens which I converted to USDT but all of a sudden the project collapsed.

The reason is because it was once a trend. The introduction of the NFT technology is like a dream come true in the gaming community. Some are still using the concept and are still successful up until now. For me, there are games that are appealing, like for example Axie. It is like a Digimon, Pokemon, or Tamagotchi inspired game. There are some people I see still plays it, disregarding the reward side.

So the reason on why they fail, is because the support of the majority is not genuine. They are only after the rewards and not really enjoying the core essence of gaming. But, I think the devs do also have a fault here because they might have been greedy for them to reduced the rewards offered which deviates gamers to look for other mode of entertainment rather than just sticking with, this is just my understanding and I could be wrong as well on this as well, if so, please correct me as I am always ready to learn.

gamers just want good games, not more microtransactions.  If studios focus on cash instead of fun, the game dies.  so yeah, it could work, but only if devs dont get greedy and and players really love the game.

Axie infinity, for example, blew up as a play-to-earn crypto game.  people bought in just to make money, not to play.  The economy crashed, the token values tanked, and players abandoned it.

Projecseed collapse was  caused by greed from the management. Most of these guys that were developing crypto games were not doing it because they cared about growing the crypto games industry. They were in it for the quick money they will make and rug. From what I was told, it was alleged that the ceo embezzled the funds and moved his family to Dubai and abandoned the project. Most of the crypto game projects were prioritizing more of players making in game purchases, but were giving very little as rewards for players. Such arrangements were not sustainable, if I’m playing games and making in game purchases, at least what I should be getting as rewards should be more or equivalent to the amount I’m spending on making those purchases. Anything less than that will make the players lose interest.

Games might have a future, but in reality, there is no actual product meaning, there isn't a truly good game out there. Granted, it doesn't have to be a Web3 game on the level of GTA 6, but there is a need for a genuinely good game one where the tokens, items, and NFTs are meticulously designed and sustainable. This is a process then again, perhaps none of this will happen, and games will simply remain in the Web2 space.
