Whenever possible, the best option is to buy directly from the company, from the manufacturer. I mentioned in another topic: the risk we run when buying products from resellers is great, especially when it comes to electronic products. I know it can be difficult, but there is a possibility that they are counterfeit as well as adulterated.
After an even more recent revelation that other compromised wallets were purchased from other retailers, we are no longer in a position to hold Cryptobilis accountable. As a crypto users looking for the safest options, we have no choice but to build our own wallets, because we can no longer trust manufacturers, especially after the coldcard and ledger scandals. I don't know if it can be built.

The ColdCard case is very different from this as, that did follow the pathway to seed generation and hacks which is rather uncommon but in this case, it’s a breach of trust between a particular vendor, the company and customer.

For the fact that, this incident is arising from a particular vendor, it’s very likely that the ledger wallets have being tampered which is the more reason why, when trying to remain secure in this space, you’ve got to follow certain rules to the letter. Always ensuring you get to the source for your purchases and downloads.

I just hope we are not caught in between like the victims. There is no research you would have done that will save you from this mess. First, the company is legit, they have been operational for like 5 years now and nothing was suspicious about them. The company was sold and no announcement was made about the change of ownership, now tell me how people are supposed to know there was a change of ownership, this was just March here and alot of damages has been done.

Now that is an alleged, we don't have prove yet they are responsible until investigation is fully done because there are some resellers that are suspect on this case. I don't think an ordinary user would have seen this coming but now that's an experience to use for another day. Most people are going to avoid buying from other people, it's either they go through the company or they don't buy at all.

Whenever possible, the best option is to buy directly from the company, from the manufacturer. I mentioned in another topic: the risk we run when buying products from resellers is great, especially when it comes to electronic products. I know it can be difficult, but there is a possibility that they are counterfeit as well as adulterated.

Doing such thing will help them avoid to buy those compromised wallets, just like that incident happened on Cryptobilis.

Now that they have seen its possible for third party seller to do tampering of wallets, that means their buyer is not safe and better leave that idea about buying their wallets with them.

Many people suggest about official sources and actually I agree with them, since this is how they can assure that devices they bough is safe. Then not been passed on risky hands of some online resellers.

That only lowers the risk compared to buying a wallet from a 3party seller. It doesn't guarantee 100% safety.

Who's to say the manufacturer's employees are always honest ? Besides , even when you buy directly from the manufacturer, wallet still has to go through shipping. So there's no way to completely eliminate the risk.

After everything that's happened with hardware wallets, I'm honestly spooked, and I'm not gonna vouch for HW to anyone anymore. Sigh.
