Politics is a game of number, where majority people in a society influence the decision making in the society.politicians over the years has metamorphosis into Munsters.Using my country Nigeria as a case study.Even through we practice democracy on paper.In practice,it is unitary system of government.A country where the judiciary and the legislature are fused and control by the executive arm of government.   Politics has become a dirty game,dog eats dogs.To survive politics in Nigeria, you have to be ruthless and heartless.because,we are in a country where human rights aren't respected, judiciary are corrupt, elections turns to selections.human beings are bargain like goods, economic hardship is normal, corruption is everyone motive.

Although you have explained the political issues in your country Nigeria, these things happen in my country. Our country is also a democratic country but the political parties that have more influence win the elections. The previous government was in power for 16 years by exerting their influence but most of the people did not support them. So think where is the democracy in the country?

Anyway, good people do not do politics and even if they do, their number is very limited. And the people do not support good people but rather vote for those who are corrupt and who give money in elections. So in this case, the people are also to blame. The politicians of the previous government of our country have fled abroad with money after committing corruption. Nowadays, politicians promise to serve the people but get busy committing corruption.

Democracy is a dog whistle. It appears to be a harmless political system by definition, meanwhile, it carries are deceitful, manipulative, and oppressive meanings that affect the citizens. Anytime I hear "power to the people," it's so funny. Ironically, it means power to the powerful. Only those in power are taking up political positions in the country. The power they have is through financial power and power taken by force.

However, it doesn't mean the citizens are weak. The leaders are supposed to understand that the people are not interested in most of those positions because they believe in them.

This happens because people confuse "democracy" with democracy. In a democracy, the people are the government. Are you part of the government? Are you a government leader?

If all the government nominees of the country are corrupt, then the country will never be able to move forward as much as possible. As a result, the people of the country will face more danger because the number of unemployment in the country will increase, there will be enough poverty and misery in the country because they are only harming the country by corruption. Instead of moving the country forward, they are moving it backward and destroying the country's education system, this is not only in your country in Africa but in countries where corruption exists, such a trend has been created.
Therefore, corrupt people should never be nominated, the people of the country should raise a good person who is capable of moving the country forward. Elect such people so that they can imagine the future of the people.

Before we talk much concerning politics and the influence the citizens have over the decision-making process, this is where we must first consider the kind of leadership pattern a particular country is running, if it is autocracy or democracy pattern of leadership, this will give us the direction to know if or whether they people also have their right to support on any development or kick again it.

That's how it is in a corrupt third world country because the citizens have no voice and that makes their votes not to count. The problem is the citizens and the reason why I said so is because they are not United in one voice.

Some youths are supporting these bad leaders just because they are been favored despite the fact that they know the truth of what is going on in the country. It's the same youths that cause violence during protest to halt it.

Politics is not for weak heart people, its for those who can bear stress at extreme levels since politics is total chaos. Although we are told that we are living in a democratic country and our opinion and votes matters but this is all bullshit because the country where I live is controlled by military but they have placed dummy politicians in front.

Politics and countries are mostly run by so called corrupt leaders who literally snatch your right of opinion and you have no freedom of speech. That is why democracy has lost its meaning totally, at least in my country.

It is unfortunate that democracy only counts during elections when the citizens are expected to vote for their leaders even though the elections results are often rigged. Immediately a politician emerges victorious after elections, they become authoritative, without considering that they were elected to serve the people. Politics has turned into a dirty game because politicians are too intoxicated with power. Most of them have refused to leave their offices at the completion of their tenure, they always want to continue being there. The underdeveloped and developing countries are really far behind when it comes to Politics because the leaders fail to understand that they are supposed to showcase good leadership skills for the betterment of their country.

Certainly this political crisis happens most places around the world, the world democracy is just a slogan now that have lost it real practice in the political activities of most people in such countries are filled with illegal operations just to take power by all means. Politics is one of the most difficult fields to choose because everyone has the ability to choose it. You have the patience and courage to face the difficult situations which must come in this field. What's your opinion of being a politician regarding the individuals who work under your supervision. In many countries, people build very strange concepts about politics and, that is, political power is limited to a few members even though democracy works on paper.

No doubt sometimes politicians show their power, but they take steps in cases where their personal interests are involved, so they undermine public welfare. I think a strong politician should be so strong that he stands by his decisions with honesty and justice. in this way, the real challenge is to create a system in which fair selection of members can be ensured so that when deserving candidates arrive, they make decisions according to their abilities, not according to the beneficiaries. At the end the conclusion is that politics is not accessible to all and some specific individuals who have abilities should go to join this field.

I agree that politics of Nigeria is very difficult right now because most of politicians are very much interested in just getting personal benefits and coming into power for personal gain rather than serving for betterment of their people. I don't think that politics requires becoming heartless or ruthless. If only those who misuse it come into power, they remain in control and if honest people start getting away from politics then it will become a problem in longer run. The main problem is failure of democracy. A country, in order to work needs an independent judiciary, a proper legislature that can make people accountable for their actions, transparent election and leaders, especially those who respect the rights of their citizens. Citizens also have equal responsibility to ask for accountability rather than relying on politicians to manipulate them with promises and money.

Politicians doesn't really have that power as they make it look, it's the citizens that gave them that enabling environment. Politicians are literally people like you and I who choose to play politics, there's no difference between them and us. I have said it many times, the cost of government really need to be reduced because politics became a dirty game because most politicians wants to enter and loot government funds. In country where the masses are silent and allows a democratic government to do the way they like, why won't politicians look them less. Nigeria is a country of particular concern, until we begin to hold our leaders accountable, the country might even get worse than this in the near future.

In Nigeria here, politics needs ruthlessness. But if we look at Africa as a whole, you will need to be ruthless. As the former oppressors don't want to let go of your country. Always trying a way to colonise you back. But in this case, it is through Neocolonialism. I wish more can be done by our leaders to put us first. But the country we leave in is filled with selfish politicians.

Power of the government supposed to be shared. But I agree with the OP when he said the power of government seems to be concentrated only on the executive side. Why, seems all other power agents have been bought. It's sad actually. But just the country we leave in.

Politics is now about a game for the strong heart, if you don't have the heart to do and undo you won't be able to join and you've rightly said that democracy is now practiced on paper, the citizens who are supposed to exercise their right through voting has been influenced by the leader's who now appoint bodies who are supposed not to be biased or bought over and most times you've to put your hands into dirty and evil things to keep up.

In politics there's no friend's or enemy as people you call your friend's can switch camp overnight because they have been bribed. Politics nowadays isn't about who merits it or who cares about the people and have their interest at heart but it's about the man who has the power, influence and who knows who.

The type of politics we play in this part of the word is too bad, which is why it will be very difficult for a gentle or soft heart person to succeed here politically.
I don't even think that it is going to change anytime soon, we have seen many of these politicians making statements as if there is upcoming fight next, one will be wondering if we are going into war, but it is just an election, politics in Nigeria is about rigging and that rigging works for those in power particularly, they are the ones that have the back up of police, Army and every other force, although you might be in power and still be outsmarted, we have seen it happen in this country different times, so if anyone wants to play politics in this country, such persons must be ready for anything.
