We already mentioned that to you several times Nutildah. The gambling board is flooded with posts that makes it very difficult for ordinary members to follow each post and gives it the deserved merit. No need to mention that merit source cannot cover well that section if ever they visit it regularly. BTW, very strong correlation starts from 0.8

People in this forum criticize a lot, if a merit source starts giving out more merit on the gambling board, they are going to start criticizing him or her, and they will say he or she is giving more merit to a shit gambling board posts. I don't think that people care too much about that, unless merit source is blatantly misusing his merit allocation, like in that recent case when one merit source was spending majority of his monthly allocation for posts written in his own altcoin thread so theymos removed his merit source status. We have a lot of boards that lacks merit in this forum is not just gambling board, I think theymos should look at those who applied for merit source under boards that are lacking merit and make them merit source and instruct them to focus more on the boards they applied under, that way merit will be allocated equally across all boards.
I wouldn't say there are a lot, but there are a few undermerited ones. And since there are more than a few overmerited ones (if you count local boards as well), readjustment wouldn't be a bad idea. The only problem is that theymos usually does this rarely, like once every couple of years, so we might have to wait quite some time for the next one.

someone has confidence in your ability. BTW.. This could be sarcasm.. Anyways, I am out, but I will come back every time you come up with such replies. Again, as per my understanding, you do not have any reputation to be questioned on the Reputation board. As for deviating from the topic, your spamming was enough for me to instigate that reply. Kaapish serial sp*****r Let me help you a bit there. Because, it looks off-putting whatever you have done here.
I will love to see how his posting shows up and is related to someone else posting habit. I am also curious tbh. You're in the top 10-15% of campaign members in terms of semantic strength, meaning your post content is highly varied, which is a good thing. Personally I appreciate users like you who exhibit signs of a personality and attempt to stand out from the crowd, even if you're not always received with open arms. Woa! Now, I can live off this validation for some time (this also gives you power to throw me off but imma take it for the moment). someone has confidence in your ability. Ability of what? To use forum as forum? BTW.. This could be sarcasm.. How exactly does it look sarcasm to you? Still I will go with 99.99% certainty it's not and leave 0.01% that it is. Also, look at your desperation (and for what!?), creating hypothetical scenarios to feel validated for how you feel about me. Anyways, I am out, but I will come back every time you come up with such replies. Please do. I like to receive responses, so I can respond to 'em, it's easy to complete signature quota that way (but, I am afraid, this one might get deleted for being off-topic). Again, as per my understanding, you do not have any reputation to be questioned on the Reputation board. That's profit for me. Reputation board is dangerous, may I never become worthy for it. As for deviating from the topic, your spamming was enough for me to instigate that reply. Kaapish serial sp*****r How exactly was my comment spam? I wonder if you actually understood it? I meant what I said and I stand by it. Anyhow, feel free to report my 'spam' to get it deleted. Furthermore, why use asterisk when forum gives you freedom to write whatever you want?

Wow, this is a solid analysis. And I'm actually working on something similar: a tool users can use to check if their post is a potential spam in the thread they're about to post before submitting their post. I'm also using the same matrices as yours—semantics and UWR (lexical) similarities—but I also included, sentence level semantics where I used a sentence-splitter to split the posts into sentences, pass it through a cross-enconder reranker to compare them.
I initially converted to an embedding (vector) and used a cosine-sim to check for their similarities, but I realized it was less accurate for my use case; I then switched to the reranker model. I also assigned different weight to them, because semantics doesn't always mean spam, but adding the sentence level sim, as well as the ngram word sim—I used up to a trigram—will somewhat add more evidence. Seeing this your post, I'm more confident now that I'm moving in the right direction.
I've been busy with so many personal projects that the tool is taking a whole lot of time to get ready. Although, I'm testing it's usability now. BTW, it's an SDK, but the post checker will be a very simple UI site for now which will promise upcoming functionalities, and probably an app later or a PWA—depending on how things progress.

Reading your sentence made me wonder again: why don't people give more merits in this forum section?
As far as Hardware and Project Development go, I think the reward for users posting in these sections is transmitting / getting information they find valuable. They are not as likely to be in sig campaigns as posters in most other sections, thus there is no need for acknowledgement via merit. Speaking of value, (ignore if this was just an explanation to Josue's question and not entirely how you feel about it) seems like I'm a little too old but well has the criterion for merit drifted onto something else? Is it ONLY about signature campaigns now? I'm just genuinely curious. In your own words, if they transmit value, they deserve a fair share at least.
As far as Gambling Discussion is concerned, I'm willing to bet its for the same reason Altcoin Discussion doesn't get as many merits as it "should": most merit sources/givers don't want to wade through dozens or hundreds of low-quality/mediocre posts to find the occasional diamond in the rough. They also might not care about the subjects being discussed, so they avoid these sections altogether. There's nothing to bet. It's the situation over there! Sometimes, I find it really difficult to post in that section--- when I open a thread and the last poster on it is just the same sock puppeteer that has spammed 7 other threads in a row, but with a different username. I see the pattern and it really irks me!

What I understand, is that the level of analysis should be different for each section of the forum. This does not necessarily mean that quality values, which deserve to be merited, will be lowered. Rather, it is to understand if in the context of an entire section/subject, that post stands out from the others. Maybe stand out, deserves merit. This reasoning is valid for any section of the forum, I'm not thinking of a specific one.

On the other hand what is there to discuss on the wallet board aside wallets? As such you should logically expect repetitive grammatical expression and semantics it doesn't mean the board is a spam...
It seems that you are a little misunderstood, the explanation regarding "Hardware -0.86 Significantly under-merited" written in the OP, I understand that in that section it is very minimal regarding the distribution of Merit. and I think this section is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=76.0 because the OP did not write specifically nutildah also doesn't say that the section is spam, unless you yourself with your misunderstanding. Then you mention wallets, do you think the "Hardware" called OP is a hardware wallet? Correct if I'm wrong If that's what you mean, the Hardware wallet section is included in the "Dev. & Tech. Discussion +0.82 Significantly over-merited" rating because the CB order is as follows: Bitcoin Forum > Bitcoin > Development & Technical Discussion > Wallet software > Hardware wallets

I like the fact that we all have seen the boards that are lacking merit and the boards that are getting more merit through this thread, OP thanks for creating this thread I believe theymos has already seen it. Now my advice to theymos, when selecting the next merit sources in this forum he should focus on those set of people that applied to merit those boards that are lacking merit. Most of the merit sources we have in this forum focus on meriting on the technical board, I won’t blame them because that’s where they have interest in. However theymos should list out all the boards with less merit and then elect new merit sources that will focus full attention in giving out merit in those boards, this is how to make things more balanced, it’s very simple.

Hello.... Read in-between lines and you'll see you are the one misinterpreting my expressions here. My major metric of concern is actually semantics. I'm of the opinion that you can't accurately measure a board with these numbers.. it may come close comparatively but it's not an actual estimation. Let me make this simple for you.... Just because a board has a high semantics and repetition ratio doesn't make it equivalent to some other board with a close ratio besides merit already proves this is true. The gambling board in terms of this same repetition is not far off from boards like wallet and hardware but the merit ratio says otherwise regardless.

Oh I gave you some merits on first post.
That’s right, repetition on discussion is highly plausible on topics that was already established. The only variation is the updates but the flow of discussion will always still the same like how you will setup mining, calculate profitability and many more same procedure. With this logic of removing repetitive discussions meant people should look for some other board to discuss if they are already posting the same matter while it’s their only expertise? Lucky for reputation and meta peeps that there’s a lot of new drama going but they didn’t consider that they just recycle the same argument.

Measuring the repetitiveness part across different time frames would be a huge amount of work, but I can show you how it fares in terms of merits. Feb 2018* thru Dec 2022: 0.42 merits per post, 10% of posts merited Jan 2023 thru Oct 2026: 0.44 merits per post, 14% of posts merited *start of the merit system was Jan 25, 2018 So merits on the mining board have been slowly ramping up (it is currently at 0.47 merits per post over the last year). Since repetitiveness is a poster quality, I'm willing to bet it hasn't changed a whole lot, as the people posting in 2018 are probably the same ones (or of similar intellectual caliber) who are posting there now. One other interesting factoid about the Mining board is that accounts that post there are more likely to have their posts deleted by moderators than the populations of any other board, and by a significant amount.
The gambling board in terms of this same repetition is not far off from boards like wallet and hardware but the merit ratio says otherwise regardless.
I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion. The semantic strength difference between the Gambling board and the Hardware board is vast. Hardware is significantly under-merited compared to Gambling, as well. If anything, that board deserves a new merit source first.

mages/2026/10/25/a2EJAw.png[/img] So... what boards are truly the most over-merited vs. under merited? We can analyze this by focusing on each board's residual, or the difference between its actual data point and where it should be on the trend line. Most Over-Merited Boards| Rank__ | Board | Residual___ | Interpretation | | 1 | Dev. & Tech. Discussion___ | +0.82 | Significantly over-merited | | 2 | Meta | +0.55 | Clearly over-merited | | 3 | Speculation | +0.27 | Moderately over-merited | | 4 | Wall Observer thread | +0.22 | Moderately over-merited | | 5 | Bitcoin Technical Support | +0.22 | Moderately over-merited | Most Under-Merited Boards| Rank__ | Board | Residual___ | Interpretation | | 1 | Hardware | -0.86 | Significantly under-merited | | 2 | Project Development | -0.55 | Clearly under-merited | | 3 | Gambling | -0.21 | Moderately under-merited | | 4 | Altcoin Discussion | -0.21 | Moderately under-merited | | 5 | Speculation (Altcoins)_____ | -0.17 | Moderately under-merited |
Here are the residual values for the other 7 boards: Bitcoin Discussion: +0.11 Beginners & Help: +0.10 Reputation: +0.09 Trading Discussion: +0.01 Economics: -0.09 Mining: -0.13 Gambling Discussion: -0.16 In conclusion, some boards definitely receive less or more merits than expected. Although Gambling Discussion does receive slightly less merits than it should, its nowhere near as unfair as the situation in Hardware or Project Development. The Gambling board is definitely under-merited. So, I ask that you hold off meriting this post and instead give some merits to your favorite gambling section posters. They'll need them more than I do! Great work nutildah, I really liked the Semantic Repetitiveness and Unique Word Ratio metrics. I try to participate in Project Development board, where I have posted some of my projects. What I realized is that few people visit those boards, the topics often get fewer views than other boards. That might be happening to Hardware board as well, as this board is somewhat related to Technical Discussion and should get the same merit ratio of this board. About the gambling board, I believe the problem is that there is too much spam everywhere, so most reputable members just avoid that board. I could find some real discussions in ANN topics, but indeed, there is a lack of merit sources there. Even good posts do not get merited properly there. I have not been participating a lot recently.

the only way that merit distribution can go round every board is for merit sources to stop joining campaigns because meeting signature campaign quota often distract them from meriting many deserving posts
maybe theymos should consider making merit sources a payable task and stop them from joining signature campaigns, not only merit sources but also the moderators so that they can concentrate exclusively on moderating the forum instead of dividing their attention by making posts for signature campaign payments

Joining signature campaign will actually help them give more merit, to make a post you will read other people’s posts and by reading or searching for thread or posts to reply they will see good and quality posts to merit and before they finish posts for that day they have ended up meriting many posts. Merit source is a voluntary job in this forum and that’s why it’s open for people who are willing to take up the responsibility to apply, if they decide to pay all merit source that will be a huge amount of money. The forum pay all moderators and they are actually doing a very good job and some are in signature campaign and it’s not stopping them to do their job.

That's not true, by doing so you are only depriving them of the privileges available for well meaning members of the forum. I'm sure Theymos wouldn't even consider paying them simply because they read posts and give merits to merit deserving post, because even users who aren't merit sources do that too. If I wrap up your post from my understanding, you are saying that users in campaign including merit sources do not care to read other users posts. That might be true for spammers but not every users, and it's difficult to see merit sources who are spammers.

The reverse is the case here mate. Completing signature campaign quota pushes the merit source to explore different boards to join conversations. Not completing weekly quota and knowing that theymos will pay them every month-end means they will just dump some merits on a few non deserving posts in order to get paid. maybe theymos should consider making merit sources a payable task and stop them from joining signature campaigns, not only merit sources but also the moderators so that they can concentrate exclusively on moderating the forum instead of dividing their attention by making posts for signature campaign payments
This is a forum and not a company, there are things forum members should do for forum for free, being a merit source is one of them. It's even a privilege to be a ms. If you make it a payable task, be ready to make reporting posts a payable task also.

Why do you think it will be impossible for merit sources to shift their attention from joining regular conversations to focusing more on the task that now rewards them? I don't see how merit sources joining signature campaigns will stop them from distributing merits across the various boards in the forum. In fact, I think signature campaign weekly requirements give them the opportunity to explore different boards and reach more deserving posts instead of concentrating on a few specific boards. What you just suggested is not a solution; it will only make things worse.

If anything, this forum needs more moderators that are actually active and write in boards they are moderating, not less.
