Is the main purpose of gambling just profit or excitement?

So from here I want to know whether the main purpose of this gambling is actually excitement or pleasure or profit.

Well youll find different response with this question cause everyone has varied goals when it comes to gambling. Just like me when I am going to casino house, my main goal is actually to play and have fun the losses or profit didnt matter much as long as I have my relaxation and ease my boredom. Im not gonna sugarcoat that a profit is a must but whether I loss my emotional level didnt take it that much cause I went there to have fun. But when I am doing online casino or maybe slot via casino sites my goal is simply to win.

OP should know there is no one purpose to why people gamble, but it is better for the main purpose to be for fun because when you gamble for fun you don’t make your decisions based on making a profit. Those who gamble for fun can easily take a break when they lose what they can’t afford. Though it is possible, not everyone who gambles for fun has a threshold for gambling. But fun players don’t really consider their losses as much because whatever the outcome is, whether loss or profit, it has nothing to worry their emotions.

I believe it's mostly for profit. I mean, who doesn't want to win? Right? Every gambler wants to win, and the excitement that gambling brings is a bonus. But there are those who probably just want the thrill of it. In sports betting, most of the time, people will place bets because they are fans of a player or a team. Winning can be a bonus for them, but their purpose could be different from that of a gambler whose aim is to win.

Different people may have different purposes when they gamble. Still, I believe we should have discipline when we gamble, even if we have different purposes for why we do it.

Usually, people would relate a general statement like this to addiction, but I will give a different answer.

Now imagine you are playing video games to have fun in your free time. What makes you happy when playing? Winning, right?
It is the same with a gambler who bets to have fun. When they lose, it is perfectly normal for them to get angry because what we are looking for is a win that makes us happy. So, chasing wins does not mean they have forgotten their original purpose of having fun. That is simply how people behave when they are looking for fun.

We play to win, just like the gamers. It's just that the stake is a little higher because there are money involved and there are no unlimited tries if gamblers empty the bankroll. Our main objective in doing gambling is to win and along with the process of winning, we get entertained. Gambling could be dangerous because there are people who can't control themselves as they gamble more than what they can, they spend so much money chasing the win without realizing that they are under the stress and not getting the entertainment that comes along with gambling. 

It's hard to deny that there are gamblers who aren't much interested in entertainment since they can get it elsewhere, instead they gamble because they want profits, I get it since I've been that kind of person before. This is why I believe that it differs depending on the gambler, money or fun, it all depends on them. What is more important is to not get addicted and ruin our lives on gambling.

At the end of the day, profit or entertainment, it is still about winning.

If someone says that he gambles only for pleasure, I find it hard to believe because no one would ever want to risk their money without profit. It is true many gamble to feel the excitement of gambling, but that excitement is created only when there is a possibility of profit. If there was no possibility of financial gain, there would be no excitement. However, only those who feel the excitement of gambling and gamble knowing their financial risk can enjoy gambling. If one has no control over gambling, then he will never be able to feel the excitement of gambling. Instead of the op creating a new thread, making continuity from any of these would have been better. However, if I'm asked why we gamble or the major reason we do ball then I will say is mainly for profit if I want to be very sincere here. But many gamblers wouldn't want to admit this fact but will rather claim it's for fun while with other motives of earning with it. However, I know that everybody has their various reasons why they do gambling, whether is for entertainment stuff or for fun or whatever. What matters most is when you don't let it become a problem to you. perhaps you gamble with a little amount you can afford to lose, also be able to walk away when necessary. I believe through this way, cases of addiction and chasing of lost wouldn't be that common as we're experiencing today.

I feel it’s pleasure and profit that motivate most gamblers, but the problem is that profit can easily over take the enjoyment. If someone really wants to gamble is suppose to be for fun, winning or losing isn’t suppose to affect their mood or make them continue gambling aggressively.

But we do see cases where people win and still want more, or lose and still continue playing to recover their money.  This simply shows that many gamblers have attach their emotions to the outcome rather than the entertainment itself. I think that no matter what people mention as the reason, the biggest reason is to make a profit, directly or indirectly. If there was no guarantee of winning money in gambling, I don't think so many people would gamble. Yes, winning money in gambling may be the excitement, but everyone's goal is to win and since winning a bet gives them money, people enjoy gambling more. Especially those who are not very financially independent, whose income is very low, want to change their fate by gambling with their small amount of income. Different people will give different answers to this question but the truth remains that money is what makes it gambling. I don't think most of the people who gamble today will open their casino accounts if money is not involved, so profits is the main target and the main reason we gamble. Although some people may catch fun on the process of gambling but the money makes the fun complete and the motivation for gambling.

It all depends on the gambler and their aim of gambling, usually gambling is for entertainment, pleasure and nothing much. People who are gambling nowadays have took gambling as a Major place for profits making while as we know, gambling can not assure everyone that we would make profits at the ends.
But the main reason while people are gambling is for entertainment purposes, so the gambler should should have one thing possibly at their mind that if they don't get the profits they are expecting then the next should be loses..I know that not all who can accept loses while gambling. Personally, I think the purpose is for entertainment, excitement, pleasure and profit, but how an individual views gambling actually depends on what they intends on benefiting before going into it. No body goes into gambling without having an aim in mind. Some people starts gambling to have fund and forget their bad moment, while someone could decide that they are only targeting profit. Therefore, the satisfaction that comes after gambling depends on what the gamblers aim was. If I target only profit and at the end of the day, I lose everything, I will feel disappointed. But if my aim was to have fun and I play with the amount I can afford to lose, even if I don't win, I won't totally feel bad or start chasing losses because my initial target was not just profit.

So, I'd say, the monetary profit that is associated to gambling is what makes it a good form of entertainment, but gambling was actually created for entertainment but the excitement is winning.
