Just as usual, scammers are not resting. They want to take advantage of every situation that comes their way. Now they are using the Binance hacked trend to make an attempt at scam victims, before Randy Binance reported that I had seen it appear somewhere in tweet ads. Don't click on any link. Binance is not giving away any free compensation. Someone with common sense should know that there is no way an exchange with just lost money will want to reward all customers. https://x.com/randyxbinance/status/2116863526753251674?a=eeuaR7jJYCBOOqD4stk&s=19

Before anyone believe anything from Binance, they would have been sent a notification. At least Binance sent notification to users about what is going on which was an app notification.
Any information like this, it is good to first confirm this kind of thing, although it is easy to spot that it is definitely a scam and not from Binance, but some people may not know that, but they can confirm if it is true through some searches online and also importantly by contacting the Binance customer care.

I came across this earlier, and I'm not surprised. It's just another opportunity for scammers to take advantage of people, and they will probably get away with it. These groups are trying to feed on whatever scraps the bigger scammers have left behind. Most of the time, out of frustration or desperation, people don't even bother to verify these claims. They rush to click links that are nothing more than clickbait. At least someone spotted it early and warned the public because I'm very sure many people would have fallen for it. There wasn't even any official announcement from Binance about such a giveaway. The only announcement they made was about unlocking withdrawals, and they are still recovering from the hack. Where would they suddenly get free money to share with all their customers? I think people need to be smarter in the crypto space. Most of these scam attempts can be avoided with a little caution and common sense.

In confirmation @heyibinance, that this is a scam that could lead to phishing sites. To run this campaign must wait for regulatory approval so they can do it if they really want to, but the reality is that there is no compensation prize after the $6.3 B hack. Even if they had really wanted to scam people, don't they think? The compensation amount is even too high. The should know that people would want to check properly. If it were just $10-20 stuff, it's somehow convincing, but a whole $150 for an exchange that lost billions? Common! This scammers should think better.
At times, it becomes so surprising how are people fall for these cheap scam tactics. We have to read, re-read, think and be careful before getting involved. Fraudsters everywhere, we have to always be careful.

There are high-level attacks that target large platforms and well-known services, causing the loss of millions, and then come low-level attacks carried out by these scammers who are ready to steal any amount from users, even if it is $1.

CZ warned about that as well.. CZ warns of fake $150 Binance compensation scam... I tried to search if there are people who already fell for that scam, I couldn't find any reports. So I guess people have already matured now, those who are using exchanges are likely not gonna fall for this obvious scam. Especially since Binance had made a timely warning as well.

Yes, there is no one that can not be targeted. The low level hacks are targeting individuals. But as you call them low leverage, soke of the hackers are every rich people and they are in other type of scam also just for money to be main illegal, they do not care. I tried to search if there are people who already fell for that scam, I couldn't find any reports. Only a fool will fall for it because Binance has been saying nobody will lose money. People can not be very wise like that, they will remain being people. Some will be wise and some will not be wise.

This is not a trick, maybe I can understand if an individual who just started their crypto journey last week falls for such scam attempt, but would be a shame for someone who have been in the space for more than 2 months to fall victim. Right now, this is not the only kind of trick that these scammers are going to use, they will likely start sending mails randomly to different people, pretending to be binance support and will include a phishing link on the mail that will enable them hack the persons account if they mistakenly click on the link. If you receive a mail from binance, verify that it's coming from a through source.

Their target are sometimes the non victims trying to take opportunities out of such event. Before anyone believe anything from Binance, they would have been sent a notification. At least Binance sent notification to users about what is going on which was an app notification.
And this notification do come with anti-phishing email codes given to Binance by individuals. Bybit and Gate also use this anti-phishing but I really don’t know how useful those codes are actually.. it depends on how they are being stored but any breach could have leaked and exposed the code for noti. even if encrypted. I would say not even believing in such nonsense is better in the first place .. any compensation can be done direct without needing any procedure.
Not your keys not your coins. These will only get worse overtime..

Scammers have no mercy; whenever they realize that people are in urgent need of money, they are there to deceive them and steal whatever little money they have left. Fortunately, Binance is now allowing withdrawals albeit gradually and it is possible to check the withdrawal status for each cryptocurrency. You can see that here: https://www.binance.com/en/network People don’t need to panic; for the time being, they can still withdraw their funds. While it’s not exactly a situation where everything is fine, it is at least possible to move coins off Binance I personally tested a withdrawal from Binance to my home country, and everything went smoothly. I believe many people fall into these scammers' traps because they’re too lazy to look for accurate information; they always want things to be easy, and scammers know this and take full advantage of it.

The most legit information is coming from Binance themselves, aside from announcements they will make on their official channels they also need to ensure they send emails to their users for confirmation because these days, even during the saddest times of those who are affected there are heartless people who will take advantage of this. The problem is, once we are in the crypto space, it's hard to trust anyone anyway, and that's why we have to be smart as scammers are just watching us trying to find the vulnerable.

They never get tired and takes the opportunity even for this misfortune that binance went through. Aside from that compensation, I think that they'll mostly going to target those people who are into the rewards hub. They'll create fake pictures of the rewards and will create rules of how to follow and become eligible for that reward. That's where they'll insert the fake link that can lead them to phishing. Let's just hope that no one will fall for these scams despite that they've got millions of binance users and even 0.01% of it falls for it is still a significant number.

The scammers targeting victims are greedy, they offer an amount which is not too high and also not too low, but enough to attract a greedy person to give away information that could lead to them getting scammed. Even if Binance was to distribute rewards to victims they have all the data they can easily with few clicks send reward across to eligible users, but these scammers just come up with cheap method that those who are not vigilant will fall victim to.

Scammers love such situations because there will always be users who are so gullible and greedy at the same time and end up clicking on such links without thinking twice. If any compensation were to be made, I believe it would be automatic through the user accounts.

The thing is that common sense seems to be very simple but is enough to make anyone avoid such a cheap method of scam. Because make it make sense, an exchange that is still trying to recover from a huge lost and the pain they have been through will start giving out compensation to who, as if they were also not affected or what? It makes no sense.
Perhaps, greedy and people with low mentality are the set of people that may possibly fall for such a childish method.

We can detect it easily but others might still fall victim to that. I think this one belongs to phishing scams, and looking at the report from last year, there was a total of $84 million in reported losses from this type of scam. So even this little awareness can already be a big help to others who don't regularly see this kind of news and warnings.

A friend of mine says it best, "get a separate device for your financials and never click a link on that device."
In this type of scam, it does not matter how you store your crypto; the scammers simply try to convince you that the webpage or app they direct you to is legit, prompting you to enter the wallet keys you otherwise keep in a secure location. They target your psychology rather than your devices.

A friend of mine says it best, "get a separate device for your financials and never click a link on that device."
If you are going to get another device for your funds, then it has to be cold storage. It could be a hardware wallet or an airgapped device. If you move funds from one hot wallet to another, then it does not really make sense, because it is still online, "even if you never click links". Anyway, just like RGBTC has said, no kind of security can protect someone who exposes their seed phrase to scammers, as soon as they enter their seed, they can kiss their money goodbye!
