Those who are waiting to withdraw their assets from Binance are warned of another possible wave of crypto theft, and this time against Binance users. We don't know if Binance just wants people to delay or abandon withdrawing their assets, but these warnings are worth checking to avoid becoming a victim.

Will you withdraw your assets or abandon the idea of withdrawing them because of this warning?

Quote
In a Nov. 2 security advisory, the exchange said fraudsters could take advantage of its phased withdrawal reopening by impersonating Binance representatives and offering customers assistance with delayed transactions, compensation claims and asset recovery.

The warning covers fraudulent emails, direct messages, group chats and even small cryptocurrency transfers carrying malicious instructions.

According to Binance, scammers may promise to speed up pending withdrawals, sell customers priority access to withdrawal queues, or instruct them to transfer their holdings into supposedly secure wallets.

Binance warns of second wave of crypto theft as $6.3 billion hack recovery continues

This is similar to this topic which also about phishing attack: Binance Compensation scam

Although, not the same. But anyone that can easily avoid phishing attack can easily avoid both scam attempts.

I do not think Binance is discouraging anyone from withdrawing their coins, they only warned their users to avoid phishing attacks.

I don't see why this warning should be seen as negative in any way.

Of course criminals try to benefit from incidents like hacks. And in this case, they warn against other types of fraud, more directed at social / identity attacks. It seems very reasonable to do so in that situation.

People who want to withdraw from Binance just should be careful with all communication they're receiving and is related to the hack. If they abide to this rule and don't give out any keys, passwords and other account-related information,, there's nothing additional to fear. Additional in the sense of "more than in a normal situation", of course every Bitcoin user has to be wary of attacks all the time.

What kind of question is this.. abandon your assets just because of warning?? Grin.

Phishing attacks are quite normal (not normal in the literal sense) whether there’s an hack or not.. it only increases when there’s an hack because there’s an event which can be beneficial in one way or the other for their attacks.

So it’s quite normal to alert their users, you can’t assume everyone is aware of what phishing is all about..

I have corrected it to abandon the idea of withdrawing. Apology for not proofreading before posting.

That is also a post attack mechanism from Binance to alert their clients in need to take personal security seriously and avoid possible phishing attacks.

What happened to Binance is clear indication that anyone can become vonurable security wise.

So there is a need for precautionary measures.

Binance knows that there is a group of cyber thieves who do not enter directly into the crypto accounts of users but use phishing attacks and email scams or through calls especially those types of scams we see frequently on social media which is why this was announced so that vulnerable users won’t fall for the trick this type and perhaps op you saw it from a wrong side or perspective.

It’s for our (user) safety and not the benefit of binance

Since the Binance attack, I’ve made it a point to stay informed about the situation only through their official website, this forum, and reputable news outlets. I disregard any emails mentioning Binance if they don’t come from an official Binance email address. I’ve also started constantly monitoring the funds I keep on Binance for trading it’s become an annoying routine. Previously, I would just buy Bitcoin, wait for the price to rise, and check my holdings on the platform only a few times a day; but ever since this hacking incident, I’ve become paranoid, checking my Binance balance multiple times a day. I even avoid Twitter when it comes to anything related to Binance, for fear of scammers. I just hope most people don’t fall for such obvious scams.

Will you withdraw your assets or abandon the idea of withdrawing them because of this warning?

This question has no answer because you already know the best thing to do when you have received a warning from the exchange that was recently attacked. You don't need to leave your assets in an exchange at some point they will stop taking responsibility for any loss it people insist on keeping their assets with them. They have proven to be trustworthy by allowing all their customers to have access to your assets, if there is a successful hack again this time the customers may be asked to also hear the loss. Investors should remove their assets and protect it in their own wallet, hackers will not target the wallet or the customers try don't have what they want but since the exchanges have more than what they want they will keep attacking them.

I would think of it in both ways. Binance is showing interesting by the safety of its customers funds by giving them the advice of not to fall into impersonators scams, and at the same time discourage them from withdrawing their assets which will significantly reduce the pressure coming from the massive withdraw requests.

In a recent update, North Korea denied all the accusations made by the FBI about its involvement in the Binance hack incident. We still don't know what actions can be taken against it based on those accusation reports.

Seems pretty reasonable warning to prevent user from being misled by scammers because unfortunately a lot of Binance users aren't really knowledgeable about blockchain and they thought they can get in front of queue from with "insider" job. Better be safe than sorry.

From my personal experience whenever you ask question or reply to their official accounts, whether through X or another form of social media, you're getting bombarded by messages impersonating as binance support. These thieves are everywhere and sometime the exchange need to take further step to ensure that their user know that there are scammers out there impersonating them.

it's an important update and actually it's not just Binance since it's a worldwide problem and it looks like we are already seeing some kind of cyber war.

Although this is not crypto related but what happened to the refrigerators in a French supermarket is already a sign that we are in this era. Security measures are being tested and therefore they have to improve them as well. Our funds are no longer safe on exchanges, and this is worrying.  Sad (next time there won't be no SAFU)

What you first typed and the second that you said it is not crypto related are both off topic. If you think the first one is not off topic, it is just a small kind of scam that target Binance users but which is very much avoidable if you know about how to know phishing messages and avoid them. That is what this is all about and not that another exchange is attacked and Binance is not attacked again.

Cyber attacks are now increasingly massive, about the warning from Binance it makes sense that they need to be alert to new waves of hacking attacks even though what we encounter more often is phishing and malware present on their computers.

The rest you need to be able to manage assets well including how to keep seed phrases and passwords from leaking, I will still withdraw money from Binance let me alone will bear the coins that are in possession of it.

Clearly hackers have hacked and moved record breaking funds from Binance, now scammers wants to softly penetrate and mop up as much funds as they can from Binance account holders, the uninformed will always fall victim. I have to commend the Binance team for sounding this warning as a disclaimer to their customers so nobody will not hold them responsible if scammers try to impersonate them to scam account holders who wants to speedup their withdrawals. It is very worrisome when you consider the high rate of scams and hacks in the crypto market and these bad guys are getting more sophisticated especially with the use of AI tools, we need to vigilant, be informed and do what we can to protect our funds in these platforms.
