It's still tradable but it gets little to no attention these days. Their ecosystem is basically dead and almost mo activity goes on there. The chain doesn't even earn up to $100 in revenue (from fees) the last time I checked. The foundation and team squandered the foundation funds with marketing nobody needed and they wasted a shit ton of it on KOLs that added no value. Not going to forget the time they paid over 200k to coingecko to have an animated banner   Smiley

In my opinion, you shouldn't buy this altcoin, and I wouldn't advise anyone else to buy it either. It’s well known that more than 90% of altcoins tend to decline in value against Bitcoin looking at the BTC/altcoin pair though they usually rise when the price of Bitcoin goes up significantly or even slightly. Conversely, when the price of Bitcoin drops sharply, they tend to fall just as hard. However, the situation with this particular altcoin is much more concerning: even when the price of Bitcoin surges, this altcoin doesn't move at all. It’s as if it has turned into a stablecoin.
Agree. Polkadot isn't a recommended coin for investment, it seems not convincing coin anymore. I have ignored this coin since the previous cycle because I didn't see any progress in its price movement. There is no good news related to the project development. So, there is no reason that the price can increase significantly again. Why we need to buy this coin?

From November 2021 to November 6, 2026, the price of this altcoin has been falling; however, if you look at the Bitcoin chart using the same timeframe for each candle, you’ll see that if you had bought Bitcoin in November 2021, you would have made significant profits by now. Therefore, it’s not worth wasting time or money on this altcoin. It’s effectively a dead altcoin honestly, I don’t even know why it’s still ranked 46th on CoinMarketCap. I highly doubt it will manage to hold that position three months from now, and within a year, it could well disappear from the top 100.
It has dropped -98% until now. And the price chart shows a scary decline. I even assume the price chart forms a deadcoin pattern. Yep, it is too risky to buy and hold this coin because there is no positive sign of this coin. Sure, it may disappear and drop below 100th rank in CMC. TBH, seeing the current condition of Polkadot, it isn't so much different with average shitcoins.

Time was passing well and in meanwhile, Polkadot has lost market cap quite much going down to 20sh positions on CoinMarketCap.
It has lost quite a lot places on CoinMarketCap and also lost much of it's initial fame when Polkadot came out from Gavin Wood was faded.
Is Polkadot still a hot coin for you?

Ah, yes. Good-old Polkadot. Back in the day, it used to bring a lot of hype. But with chains such as Solana and BSC (powered by BNB) taking away the crypto world by storm, the project is history. All of the attention are on these chains and ETH itself. Not even the upgrade to Polkadot 2.0 was enough to lure investors into DOT. Better look for other alternatives, imo.

If you're still interested in the coin, I'd recommend you only invest what you can afford to lose. Especially during these uncertain times. The market is too volatile. Who knows what would be of the Polkadot project in the future?

Unfortunately they got inflation too high for years there is no coming back from current price. 10% inflation rate is worse than fiat and old holders are getting diluted and even their current yearly issuance is still pretty high compared to Ethereum which is only around 0.5% yearly inflation.

Is it still a hot coin? No, the chart shows that DOT barely move in 2024-2025 bullrun and severely underperforming compared to other coins and far worse compared to its 2021's bull.
True, there was a time when the ~10% was true. But it changed in March 2026, this year, the yearly issuance of DOTs was reduced from ~120M to ~55-57M, and there is a hard cap of 2.1B on top of it, with inflation at around 3% this year. It’s still quite higher than Ethereum’s, so you’re not wrong there! It’s just not the 10% anymore.

I also agree that there was a significant lag for DOT in the run from 2024-2025, and I wouldn’t say it’s hot either. My previous post was that the supply side got fixed, but the demand side didn’t. Having fewer new coins won’t encourage the use of the chain on its own, and the price hasn’t had a lasting re-rating since March. I would say “not hot” but “no coming back” seems like too much for me. Well, again, it depends on whether actual usage shows up from here.

Nah, it has lost his luster in the market. And just like what we have seen in previous cycle, like ADA who have a lot of hype before in the prior bull run. But in the last cycle that we have it didn't move that much.

So it's a indication that either investors are looking for other project to invest or there are competitions amongst themselves. Same thing that happened to DOT, no longer has the support of investors as they might have decided to look for better alternatives or at least to look for new project to pump and make a lot of profits and then rinse and repeat.
I still believe that older alts like ADA and DOT aren't like any other shitcoins out there that has no use cases at all. So they may still have a supporter. For those who jump on the other project, they are only in for the hypes and profit. But I will say that marketing is important even for an old project. That is to let people know that they are still there. Even big brands on the real world are like this too, which is why they never lose their momentum.

Competition is another factor that can affect the performance of a project and maybe they got left behind in terms development. For me, I am kind enough to give them a chance, as sometimes they can have a valid reason too for their lag.

I clearly remember when Polkadot (DOT) emerged as one of the leading assets alongside Ethereum (ETH), that was back in 2021. In fact, Polkadot was ranked #5 on CoinMarketCap at that time. However, the crypto industry has not remained stagnant, there have been many developments that have led to the emergence of new projects featuring superior technology.

If you’re asking whether Polkadot (DOT) is still a hot coin right now, I think the answer is "No".
