Recent updates to Casascius Physical Bitcoins website:

  • Prices stay better in step with the exchange rate.  (Added code to re-figure the prices automatically as needed.)
  • Added the 1 troy ounce silver round with the gold plated Bitcoin logo, now in stock.
  • Added the 1000 BTC gold coin.
  • Recently added USPS Registered Mail shipping option.  (Highest USPS security intended for shipping currency, gems, precious metals, etc... and includes the only USPS insurance that will cover this sort of stuff for its full market value.  Every parcel has a paper trail from shipper to recipient.)  The price is not too bad - a $5000 shipment can be shipped fully insured for about $24.

Companies claiming they got hacked and lost your coins sounds like fraud so perfect it could be called fashionable.  I never believe them.  If I ever experience the misfortune of a real intrusion, I declare I have been honest about the way I have managed the keys in Casascius Coins.  I maintain no ability to recover or reproduce the keys, not even under limitless duress or total intrusion.  Remember that trusting strangers with your coins without any recourse is, as a matter of principle, not a best practice.  Don't keep coins online. Use paper or hardware wallets instead.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

+1 Glad to hear it. Can you post up a picture of the new "limited-edition" silver round?
