I keep my laptop beside my bed on mtgoxlive and clarkmoody. The fan wakes me up when big activity happens. I wake up briefly a couple times a night anyway, so I check it then.

day trading vs swing trading?
depends on how much sleep you want to get.
of course, (trailing) stop loss orders would also help.

I leave one monitor on clarkmoody's site and the other monitor on Bitcoinica and watch them from my bed while I go to sleep. I open my eyes at least 5 times and check the price before I actually go to sleep. Then when I wake up to go pee I blink a bunch of times till I can see the price and then I go back to bed. Then when I wake up in the morning I wake up an hour before my alarm clock to check the price. Uh...yeah, addicted.
If the price goes wild I'll sit down and do some midnight trading instead of sleeping.

My Droid3 has 3g, and it sucks! So I can't get real time tickers directly on it. So, I use team viewer, and just connect to my PC. Then use my typical layout of tabs.

Y'all are crazy to be daytrading/nighttrading/swingtrading a hyper-volatile crypto-currency on exchanges open 24/7/365. And "they" say speculators don't do anything!
Though honestly, I'd have made slight more money if I'd bought and held the coins I bought at $2.05, rather than buying and selling repeatedly on the way up. For example, I had all of my sell orders from $5.00 to $5.70 today, and so I completely missed out on the rise from $5.70 to $6. But if no one were selling and rebuying, there'd be no liquidity and bitcoin wouldn't be quite so useful as a currency. Oh well, I guess liquidity is my contribution to the currency, rather than code or articles.

Learn to sleep.
I've traded things more volatile, and that I could have lost my house on.
Sure, it wasn't pretty watching my large $15 buy in back in June fall to $2, but I'm in the black with an average price around $5 after six months of trading. Happy to watch this for a long time yet.

Later that night. Late night news reports of a man in mid 30s found dead in his downtown condo. The Coroner's Report suggests that the subject had suffered from a blunt force trauma to the head. When questioned by the reporter as to how a freak accident like that could happen. The coroner replied, "I believed the cause of death had something to do with the 19" monitor protruding from the subject’s prefrontal cortex"... And there you have it folks! An unsuspecting Bitcoin "day trader" gets first hand evidence as to why Bitcoin's are hazardous to your health!

Update on the "Bitcoin Day trader" story. CRAZED WIFE KILLS SLEEPING HUSBAND WITH TV! When questioned as to what had driven her to such action, with a sense of satisfaction she replied that she could not take anymore sleepless nights! "I told him that Bitcoins would be the death of him.” she said, "Since the price of Bitcoin was rising my husband was even more crazed then ever! “I will stick with this future Tech” as he put it. That’s why I made it look like the monitor accidently fell on his head!" to be honest I was contemplating doing something very similar in my study.

the only thing left is for you to get realtime updates during REM.
Probably the most practical way to do this would be to have a price movement to speech synthesiser of some type. You can probably pick up on sounds in the environment which come through to your dreams.

Quick, somebody program something to solve this problem.

Two nights ago there was a massive thunderstorm here. It sounded like the world was ending. I actually went outside to make sure it was a thunderstorm and not an invasion and was relieved to see lightning flash. At some point though I remember being half-asleep half awake and hearing the storm thinking it was the btc price crashing. When I checked it in the morning it hadn't though.

We dream during non-REM sleep too. REM sleep is aka nightmare mode. My theory is the rapid eye movement is keeping a look-out for predators such as wolves, bears and so on. The dream is a simulation to train us to survive when we get attacked by wild animals or even other people. The other things dreams can help us do is get used to the idea of making a sexual pass on someone. Because you don't get slapped in the face in your dream you get more comfortable with the idea so that hopefully when you try it in real life you don't look like a creep. Given this it may be best to give the brain simulated rather than actual data if you want to become a better trader. This risky trades could pay off if you practice risky trading in a simulation.

Well if you lose money on the market wait at least 12 hours before you masturbate. I cannot emphasise this enough. If your brain associates losing money on the market with being quickly followed by a dopamine releasing activity (such as viewing porn) you are rewarding yourself for losing money and that's a very vicious cycle. Only reward your brain when you make money.

I am thinking of using Stop-Loss Orders on CampBX Exchange, to fore-go the lose-my-shirt-overnight-on-Mt-Gox scenario.
Anyone trade with CampBX with stop-loss orders? Or is the volume too small to trade with them?

Does anyone have sex life here, between watching and worrying about the Bitcoin action late at night?
After I wake up each morning and see Bitcoins up another .50 cents, then I have an orgasm.
I used to date a chick that loved getting bitcoins put in her butt. Then she dated my boss's son and I dumped her. Now I can trade clearly without her distracting me. Stupid chicks, only good for making me sandwiches. P.S. true story about her dating my boss's son.

When I checked it in the morning it hadn't though.
what you heard was the Bitcoin price spiking. Up.

Only reward your brain when you make money. this is turning out to be one of my favorite threads. other than Bitcoinica ones that is. i seriously was thinking of starting one myself along the lines of Sleep or Bitcoin? or Stategies for Monitoring the Bitcoin price while Sleeping. you beat me to it.

I'm awake again - lovely sleep - nothing happened in the bitcoin world worth worrying about that my pre-set orders didn't take care of.

What exchange are you on, for those pre-set orders? Mt Gox is not a big help in that way.

What exchange are you on, for those pre-set orders? Mt Gox is not a big help in that way. ?? if you have a view about where the market is, you set buys and sells at prices you want to trade at. I have a trading plan and stick with it - works for me. Too many knee-jerk reactions costs money while patience and nerve also helps. As a personal preference, I don't trade on Gox - I worry too much about getting funds out, no terms of service, and their casual disregard for users.

So if you dont use Mt Gox, what exchange do you use to trade bitcoins? The really big hole with MT Gox is you cannot do Stop Loss orders. You cant set a specific lower sell price to cover yourself if the market price goes down, it will just sell immediately at the next lowest price below the current price. Now you can buy and sell above the current price at a specific price, but Stop Loss is really what we need to protect our investments for markets falling on Mt Gox. I dont understand why Mt Gox wont implement this.
