AMT_Miners - Please do not delete this post until you answer my question on what I am supposed to do with this broken miner that is coming back to me. You told me you would pick it up at your local FedEx since the office was closed, but you never did.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

This is the miner that was delivered to me: Deleting this message is tantamount to willfull destruction of evidence. AMT keep that in mind.

You told me you would pick it up, but you never did. Yes, this is evidence. Deleting this is destruction of evidence. I also question the way the miner was damaged. You can see in the one photo there is paint missing from the top of the case, it almost looks like someone struck it with crowbar or hammer. How could damage occur like this when it is packed on the inside of a box? You can also see the paint is missing... It is very suspicious to me. In addition, why is the door not bent there if it was struck there? It is because it was damages when the door taken off. This one photo never sat right with me... This is my evidence... I also wonder if disconnecting the power, and the damage was a decoy to make me think the boards were damaged in shipping, when perhaps they were just non-working boards. It is clearly documented in email and on this forum that AMT had it out for me since I reported not receiving a miner when the due date come. Silly me for expecting them to keep their word. Exhibit A:

So are "delivery attempts" to be considered as "failed repair attempts"? If so, you should be covered by the Federal Lemon Law.

I can't prove any of this, but everyone may have different opinions on this.
Hard to prove that the damage was deliberate. However, very easy to prove negligence. The padding on my box was completely inadequate. Anyone from FEDEX will attest to this.

Yes, the unplugging, they could just say "Ah, it happened in shipping". The padding and the way they didn't even use a box in my case, (they just wrapped the miner in in cardboard and taped it!!!). As far as proving things, that is usually not my job, its up to other people to decide based on the photos etc.

At this point we would expect they will take back the obviously flawed miners we all have and exchange them for properly working hardware. I presume that is the whole point of the options they are offering. Which also means receiving hardware that is shipped back. Can AMT clarify a plan for that as well? Considering mrpark's experience it puts everyone else on a bit of worry and with good reason.

If we are playing show and tell How did this happen? I thought the heat sink on the other side was big enough to absorb all the heat?

Probably the thermal tape was poorly applied, creating an air pocket that led to that. Usually the case from what I have seen. Considering the assembly quality in general and overall leakage of the thermal grease this is not a shock. It looked like a rushed job.

If I accepted #1, it needs a PSU to come with it... or it needs to be split into 2-units with 2-backplanes, 2-RasPi's and daughterboard, 2-LCDs, with the 6-cards total (3x and 3x), 2-cages and no towers. This, so I can buy two separate 750W-800W PSU's, as I would not pay additional $350-$580 for a 1500W-1600W PSU, which may not even have enough power.
Same if I accepted the technobit solution. I would still expect the same 1.2THs, 6-card setup, with the provisions to operate them as two separate units. This, again because of the power supply issue.
If no PSU is being provided (as you stated), and no tower-case (requested in my case)... I would think that the extra backplane, RasPi and daughterboard, and LCD screen, would be a fair replacement for the missing PSU and Case. (Oh, and all associated wires.)
Josh, I know you are in a tight spot, but that is the minimum I can personally spare to take as a loss myself. I tried to help, and did a little to those who asked in PM's. (As limited as my help was.) Wish I could have done more, but it seems that there is nothing I can do now. I am having to haggle for my property, which is actually disturbing me at this point. My compassion for you, and your situation, is still sincere. However, It is just a matter of business now.

This is indeed problematic for a couple of reasons: (1) There is no screw that ensures that the heat sink has some pressure against the chip. (2) The orientation of the boards are such that the boards are vertical and therefore gravity isn't even going to work to keep the heat sinks in place. Also, I've been saying for a while now. These heatsinks are too small. Look at the designs of both Technobit and Dragon. They've got massive heat sinks on the chip side and it's okay even if the chips are all bunched together. Even the AMT system has a much larger heat sink than what we see here at AMT. I can't understand the design. These are 28nm chips running on full throttle, AMT however decides to put the smallest heat sink one can imagine!

That design decision is likely one of many reasons why they are in this mess int he first place.

I will agree to a refund in BTC, at the price of BTC now, equal to cover the price I payed of $6060.00 USD for the single unit I ordered.
$6060.00 / ($440/BTC) = 13.77272727 BTC.
If I accepted #1, it needs a PSU to come with it... or it needs to be split into 2-units with 2-backplanes, 2-RasPi's and daughterboard, 2-LCDs, with the 6-cards total (3x and 3x), 2-cages and no towers. As for the BTC or a cash "refund", if accepted... I could not wait another 6 months for that. That would have to be immediate.

Just for kicks and giggles, if accepted... Here is my BTC deposit address. BTC refund: 1Ap9RcRb4qtTV5icioqfeT86Qj1eXFQ3Ez
I agree with this. At bare minimum I would only accept what I paid for which was 1.2Ths. if you can toss a bit extra for our troubles I would consider it a great plus at this point. For me option 2 seems like the most viable. Oh and If no PSU is being provided (as you stated), and no tower-case (requested in my case)... I would think that the extra backplane, RasPi and daughterboard, and LCD screen, would be a fair replacement for the missing PSU and Case. (Oh, and all associated wires.) would be necessary as well.

If we are playing show and tell How did this happen? I thought the heat sink on the other side was big enough to absorb all the heat? The miner was running fine for hours just doing it's thing. I went to bed and when I woke up it it looked like that with the copper sink hanging on for dear life off the bottom of the tape. I bought some extra fans , has one blowing cool air in and and another exhausting the hot air out. So I ran to my computer and check the putty log and it was just popping up with an error over and over. SoI killed it and switched off the device and haven't mined since, even with the now one good card I have. I'm not looking for a fire, but at least I have renters insurance if it went up. Hell probably would have had my money back from the mier now if it would have gone up.

Nevertheless, it is interesting that the heat sink on the otherside could not absorb the heat. So even if option #1 was working, it would still be a fire hazzard.
