witcoin (http://witcoin.com/) is a social news site (think reddit) powered by bitcoin. To post, reply and upvote costs a fraction of a witcoin (1 witcoin = 1 bitcoin); this is distributed among the original poster/replier, previous upvoters, category renter and site dev team/charities chosen by witizens [1].

Depending on the category you post in your mileage may vary. http://random.witcoin.com/ has a post cost of .00000001 for instance.

The last witcoin giveaway http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3211.0 was successful thanks to ducki2p.

How to collect your gift?

To promote witcoin.com I am giving away 0.05 witcoin (0.05 BTC) to the  forum users that sign up on http://witcoin.com/getwitit and post their witcoin.com account url (for example http://witcoin.com/witizens/7) as a reply in this thread.

Please use this gift to post content, send replies and upvote on the site; but you are welcome to withdraw witcoins for bitcoins.

For more information about witcoin, read their FAQ at http://faq.witcoin.com/ and if you have bug reports and/or feature requests use http://meta.witcoin.com/ (bug reporters are currently rewarded).

Restriction

Only existing forum members, created before April 12th 2011 with at least 10 forum posts can participate, this is to exclude duplicate accounts and bots.

Everybody thanks for participating and be sure to check out http://witcoin.com/

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Where can I go to learn how to use witcoin (besides the witcoin site)?

The 'profit' on some posts doesn't seem to correlate to the number of votes or replies, so I don't get understand how it's being calculated and haven't found a simple explanation anywhere.

Thats because people can "support" a post rather than vote or reply and they get 95% of the amount.

If you like what someone posted then supporting them is the quickest way for them to directly profit.

If someone makes an easy to use guide to using witcoin Im sure they would get lots of "support".

Thanks for that... I've studied it further and added something about it here: http://meta.witcoin.com/p/1094/Improvement-for-witcoin-help-item-how-do-i-profit

This is a fabulous idea. Witcoin seems like a fascinating use of this technology. I will try my best to be witty.

Edit: darnit. I have been lurking this forum for a while, I didn't see about the already-signed up thing. Oh well.
