could I use a old server for mining?

I have an old HP ProLiant DL360 G4 server, that I was thinking about using for mining.
I wanted to know if it would be possible to use as is (stock).
Hardware specs are:
2x intel xeon 3400dp/2m/800/sl7zd
4GB Ram
Hp 128Mb Battery Backed Write Cache
2x 72.8GB 15000RPM Wide Ultra SCSI

not sure what else is in there
currently installed OS is Windows Server 2003

Could anyone let me know if i would need some different hardware installed into it or might it work as is?

Could you?  Yes.
Should you?  Not in this lifetime, CPU mining has been dead for a long time now, it is too slow to even bother (in SHA256 you will never earn enough to even pay the transaction fee to spend what tiny fraction of a coin you mine in your lifetime).

My Opinion
Never ever mine using teh CPU
I tried myself last year (back around when the diff is 0.9T instead of 6.9T today)
Using 4 quad-core Xeon CPU gets me only 40MH/s
and the profit is 0.00000300 BTC/day

CPU Mining is highly NOT recommended

Either for fun or for a living.

In my opinion, you can use any PC for mining, but it will not profitable, if you want mine bit coin, it's mission impossible.

I have a friend working in a financial institution having access in more than 10 IBM blade servers.He runs there since Nov 2013 cpuminer later in 2014 when it became available to mine LTC and sell them for BTC he changed this now he is almost running all his machines with  multipools but IMPORTANT he has not paid for them he DOES not pay electricity to run them so the fact is that he received as at today with 100Khs about 5 USD per week free.
Who can say I dont want them ?

I would suggest using the lowest power PC you can find just to run the client software (e.g. BFGminer or CGminer). I am using a Gateway laptop that's been set to the lowest power setting in Windows and it uses approx 8 Watts of power according to my Kill-a-Watt meter. But I have two USB hubs attached to 12 AntMiner U2's running at a total of 24GH/s. The total power for the entire system is under 40 Watts. 
Any desktop PC is likely to use at least 80 Watts and CPU mining will produce less than 100MH/s (that's 240x SLOWER than my system running at 40 Watts).

Getting a miner is still better(and less stress for cpu) than using the cpu to mine. why don't just recommend your friend to get one? a 200kh/s is not that expensice already nowadays

if you really must mine something,  buy a u2 antminer for ~20 and plug it into that server. you'll still lose money on electricity and hardware cost, but you'll have way more hashing power

if you really must mine something,  buy a u2 antminer for ~20 and plug it into that server. you'll still lose money on electricity and hardware cost, but you'll have way more hashing power

Definitely you could use it..but you can only mine on CPU as GPU very out-dated. CPU miners now are BitMonero, FantomCoin (which support Merged mining-you can mine ByteCoin+FantomCoin for example)..
