Why isn't bitcoin core on sourceforge?

Why is the bitcoin core client not available at sourceforge?
Are there any restrictions? Also I can't find litecoin/dogecoin client.

because, on unique place, you can control the "need to update" ... if required (like OpenSLL).

Ok, I see. Did the bitcoin community removed the client voluntary or did sourceforge forced them so?

There have been a few instances of trojan-infected Bitcoin clients being posted on sourceforge. Some people have been duped into downloading them after doing a search and picking the wrong one. I don't know why the official client was eventually removed from there, but I thought that it was a good idea.

There was some compromised sourceforge servers that scared developers back in the day. Ultimately it matters where the source and executables are hosted because very few people read code and can compile the source themselves so trusted repos are needed.

This is not to say that one shouldn't trust sourceforge but that we need better ways of creating trusted repos and verifying code and I would assume that it was removed in part as one less repo to manage and worry about.

I just wonder why there bitcoin or any altcoin is hosted there, whereas you can find bitcoin core and litecoin-qt on softpedia.com
