A few hours remain until the end of voting on the proposal EIP-999 – the most controversial issue since TheDAO, which caused fierce debate in the Ethereum community, from developer meetings to regulars of social networks.

One simple question was put to the vote:

Do you support EIP-999 – restoring the contract code to 0x863DF6BFa4469f3ead0bE8f9F2AAE51c91a907b4?

Voting ends in 2018-04-24T06:45:06+00:00. At the time of publication, 333 260.9 ETH voted. The 5.5% margin is still on the "No" side, although since the beginning of the voting on April 17 both points of view have repeatedly moved forward.

A fierce exchange of views unfolded in Reddit after the publication of the post that the vote cost 306 000 ETH in favor of the restoration of the contract was filed on behalf of the contract with the address 0x3bfc20f0b9afcace800d2191166ff16540258 – this is the same wallet with multi-signature, access to which offers to restore EIP-999.

In fact, this is a feature of voting on etherchain: voting is not served by sending a zero transaction, as it is implemented in Carbonvote (the system used in voting on the hard fork of TheDAO and on the first reduction of the miners ' reward), but by digitally signing the wallet. However, because a contract cannot sign messages, ether chain rules allow you to send a message that is signed by the Creator of that contract. In this case, it is a non – profit Swiss Foundation Web3, headed by Gavin wood (Gavin Wood), who is the founder and CEO Parity-the main interested party in this story.

Formally, the results of the vote of the Ethereum Foundation do not obligate to anything, however, their results will be taken into account when making a final decision. The Ethereum Foundation has not yet spoken out in favor of either party, but Parity will have to decide whether to agree to a common opinion or try to split the network. This will happen if Parity - a company whose client is used by 30% of Ethereum network nodes - unilaterally enters the EIP-999 code.

Answering the question of the portal Trustnodes whether they will accept the results of the vote, the representative of the Parity of Sedan Afri (Afri Shoedon) said:

We're not gonna split the grid. We intend to restore the said contract in consensus with other customers and the entire community.

To clarify the question "if the result is "no", will you continue trying to restore the contract?", and / or "if the result is" Yes, "but the Ethereum Foundation says" no, " will you try to split the network?", Shedon responded so:

"Too many assumptions, I don't know where to start. Why do you think the Fund will say no, or even so: why do you think the Fund has the power to say no?

The Ethereum Foundation is not a monolithic organization, they Finance the development of the Ethereum infrastructure, but they do not manage and command the network. [ ... ] I don't think we would have put forward this proposal at all if we wanted to split Ethereum. At this stage, the split is not on the agenda. Parity follows the rules set out in EIP-1 and continues negotiations with developers, other teams and the community."

As in the case of TheDAO, voters make up a small percentage of the total number of ether – at the time of writing it is 3.3%, despite the fact that there are no more than 12 hours before the end of voting. On the passivity of the holders of the tokens in the conduct of the referenda have repeatedly indicated Buterin Vitali and Vlad Zamfir, saying that such a vote cannot be "absolute truth", however, the voting – those who do not care, so the results are very important for the production of the final decision. In any case, these results are much more important than any, even very emotional posts on social networks or comments. In the remaining time, everyone can vote with their wallets ' electronic signatures (signatures via MyEtherWallet and MyCrypto are supported).
