out of curiosity, I gave it a try, it's sucking up my cpu power as well but I am thinking with DMD being POS that this cannot possibly work but hey - there is no fun in not trying

To save your DMD, you need to do this: go to the Livecoin exchange and request the withdrawal of DMD to your diamond-qt or wallet of one of the above exchanges (ExMarket or CoinMargin). If your DMD is located in the desktop wallet, you don't need to do anything, you will need to update it after the release of v4.

This was possible in 2014 but not now. The difficulty for solo mining is too high.

regardless of difficulty - if its mine-able it would still be possible even with the near impossibility due to diff.

dmd v2 2014 was pow/pos hybrid it was mineable with groestl algo
dmd v3 2017 is pos/masternode it is not mineable
dmd v4 2021 will be honeybadger/posdao it is not mineable

that I understand - my curiosity is about the mining from the wallet/node. I realize that the coin is POS now so should not be mineable at all but it actually still functions thru the node. would think the commands would be removed. I thought it funny that it was still putting a decently heavy load on my cpu almost 78%

i have a wallet with 2500 transaction (MN rewards) i want to send them to a minter wallet but it cant as the transaction size is too big. How can I combine them all without doing it 10 at a time will take forver ?

This is not a problem.
Just disable coincontrol and send the required amount of DMD to another address.
The wallet itself will combine the dust diamond and create a transaction.
Only you should not try to send more than 500 DMD because this may exceed the maximum transaction size.
