Development bond pays 8% annual interest in XMR in quarterly coupons, 5 year maturity.

Does it mean that I sell my XMR at present price and if in 5 years it they are worth less than 140% (plus compounded interest) of the current price, it is more profitable than to hold them, right? If this is the case, this means I should gamble that Monero won't be worth more than 0.0017 BTC in 5 years.

Or maybe I misunderstood something.

Many people will refrain from using prediction markets unless they can do so privately. The quality of predictions should be higher using a private payment method.

Good point.  Prediction markets, decentralized or not, are a brilliant use case for XMR.  I'm surprised nobody thought of it sooner!   

A.  lobby existing prediction markets to accommodate XMR when KoziTwo's gateway is available
B.  incorporate the feature into our OpenBazaar fork
C.  create standalone FOSS

This might be very helpful in seeing what geographical areas of the world need a node.  I'd be interested in donating to a project like this.

You can certainly take the data from the p2pstate.bin file and plot it on a map. Not every single single node will be there but many of them will.

Good point.  Prediction markets, decentralized or not, are a brilliant use case for XMR.  I'm surprised nobody thought of it sooner!

D. Use bets to create "bounties" which benefit XMR.

For example:

"Will <marketplace/exchange/company> begin accepting XMR before Jan 1 2017?"

Most bets will be "no."  

The administrator bets yes, starts accepting XMR, and collects the fee. It's more fun than a bounty because anyone can take either side of the bet.

Considered as a bet, it is a wager that, perhaps partly as a result of the additional development funding, 140 XMR are worth more, discounted for 4.286 years avg. duration, than 2*100 = 200 XMR in hand.

Presently there are about 100k XMR in expressed interest.  I think 250k would be enough to justify the effort and custodial cost. 

To hedge will require buying 350k XMR.  Therefore, to avoid moving the market, I should prefer to denominate the bond in an aggregate of 70% XMR, 30% BTC.  Of course the added reserve demand will eventually push the market up a bit, but that is unavoidable.

1) What is the smallest unit in monero? Is there an accepted name? Moneritos? Matoshis?

2) How much of these units make 1 monero?
