Ok guys, I bought at the top again. Last time I bought at 0.004 after you trolls did some pretty heavy convincing and then we plummeted. I hope this isn't a repeat lol.

If you are a short term investor then maybe you will lose.  I'd hold all XMR right now as it is only going to increase over time. If I had had more funds available back when XMR was .20¢  US I would have bought more then.   I'm still buying now plus mining.  But in a years time it has gained plenty and a year is not that long a time for good growth.  Monero will continue to gain over the next few years IMO.  I'm no whale but have managed to build a good long term investment base.   This whole conversation is probably best talked about on the speculation thread.

That is DASH killer IMO....as a new comer to your community I see this as very valuable. The DASH team cant even get the MN owners to vote on implementing an anonymizing layer.

Dash offers an anonymous service to it's end users yet with very little protection to the identity and location of MN operators themselves. Because MNs operate over public IPs, they are potentially exposing themselves to complicity in any illegal activity occurring over the network. Very few MNs run through VPNs. In fact, more than 52% of MNs are operating on just four centralised cloud services. This creates potential liabilities that could stunt end user adoption.

You can send your XMR from your wallet (simplewallet, Android, MyMonero [web-based], etc.) to the xmr.to site. This will convert your XMR to BTC and send the BTC to the BTC address you specify. One use case for this is that the recipient of the BTC can't trace the transaction back to you. It's better than just mixing BTC because even the mixers aren't 100% untraceable. There are companies whose sole purpose is tracing Bitcoin transactions and they're getting better at it. Since all BTC transactions are public, and with these speciality companies getting better at what they do, a "virtually untraceable" mixed BTC transaction could be much more easily traced in the future. This also means that they could look back at any transaction in history and have the ability to make it less obscure. So, xmr.to is the way to go if you want to send BTC and remain private and untraceable.

I'm not trying to FUD Dash or start a trolling war - I'm just going to honestly answer your question. Monero is 100% decentralized (and 100% fungible, private, and untraceable). Dash is semi-centralized. If the same entity owns the series of masternodes that are used to mix your Dash, then the transaction can be traced by the entity (individual, government, person with malicious intent...you don't know). That's impossible with Monero. My thoughts are that if you want a private coin, why would you use a coin that has the potential to not be private? XMR does not have this vulnerability.

You don't need a payment I'D to withdraw to your wallet.  You should be able to leave it blank.

Of course you need to use a payment IS when sending to polo because all deposits go to one adress and that is the only way to distinguish your deposit from someone else's.

As nioc says, you don't need one to withdraw to your wallet.  PaymentID's become useful for online stores/exchanges/etc where they have one XMR address and the PaymentID might be used to identify a product or a user.

That said, I have a stupid little tool on one of my sites that will autogenerate a dummy payment ID for you - should you be *required* to use one:

Yes you only need that when sending to an exchange or other service that uses a shared wallet. Sending to your own wallet it is not required (this includes sending to a MyMonero wallet -- payid NOT required).

When Monero halving?

There is no halving. The block reward declines a tiny amount every block. The effect is to reduce it by half every 18 months or so. We passed the first 18 month cycle several months back.

What has been the ATH in USD for XMR?

All time high was something silly like $6, which was hit only for a very short time early on when the supply was tiny and volatility was huge. Ignoring that very early period I'm not sure of the exact USD ATH but the current price is reasonably close (in part due to BTC being worth more now).
